End of the Road: How Money Became Worthless | Gold | Financial Crisis | ENDEVR Documentary from 2012
In 2008 the world experienced one of the greatest financial turmoils in modern history. Markets around the world started crashing, stock prices plummeted, and major financial institutions, once thought to be invincible, started showing signs of collapse. Governments responded quickly, issuing massive bailouts and stimulus packages in an effort to keep the world economy afloat.
Although we’ve been told that these drastic measures prevented a total collapse of our system, a growing sense of unease fills the population. In the world of finance, indeed in all facets of modern life, cracks have started to appear. What lies ahead as a result of these bold money printing measures? Was the financial crisis solved, or were the problems merely kicked down the road?

A perfect storm is brewing in the United States. Inflation, bank collapse, severe drought in the agricultural belt, recession, food shortages, diesel fuel and heating oil shortages, baby formula shortages, available automobile shortages and prices, the price of living place. It's all coming together and it could lead to a real disaster towards the end of this year (or sooner). With inflation currently at about 6%, my primary concern is how to maximize my savings/retirement fund of about $300k which has been sitting duck since forever with zero to no gains.

Federal Reserve may soon lose control of interest rates, claims Heresy Financial. This comes as a result of the United States government's intention to embark on a $1 trillion borrowing spree. This might cause the banking sector to lose so much liquidity that rates spiral out of control and are no longer in the control by the federal reserve. I'm sorry to say that despite investing, I lack the mental capacity to evaluate each company's performance and decide whether or not now is a good moment to acquire stocks. In practice, the function of neoliberal economics is to distract attention away from how the economy really works - why it’s polarizing, and why people are having to work harder and harder despite the fact that productivity is going up. Let’s suppose that you go to the grocery store and you buy food and then sign an IOU for everything that you buy. You go to a liquor store, IOU. You buy a car, IOU. You get everything you want just for an IOU. But when people try to collect the IOUs, you say, “That IOU isn’t for collecting from me. Trade it among yourselves. Think of it as your savings, and trade it among yourselves. Treat it as an asset, just as you treat a dollar bill saved in a cookie jar and not spent.” Well you’d get a free ride. You’d be allowed to go and write IOUs for everything, and nobody could ever collect. That’s what the United States position is, and that’s what it wants to keep. And that’s why China, Russia, and other countries are trying to de-dollarize, trying to get rid of the dollar. They are buying gold so that they can settle payments deficits among themselves in their own currency, or currencies of friendly countries, and avoid dollars altogether.

Ponzi schemes, as the vid points out is when there is no profit, gdp is profit. When government spends its different from when Joe spends money. It should be seen as investment to increase gdp not just "spending". When a company invests money does it flow p&l or the bs (asset)? When a company purchases large assets, ff&e, does it flow to p&l or the bs (balance sheet)? Answer is balance sheet (asset) not expense. Deficit means negative cash flow, not "loss", if gdp goes up from the "spendings" the investment was profitable. After watching this video, did you have an urge to buy gold? It was intended. This video was created by gold sellers. Not saying we should ignore this vid, we should consider the risks, however, US is not "spending" like Joe spendings money at the strip club.

@James Henry Smith Yes I noticed that! It ends up with a big sales spiel, which has....a very long disclaimer. That disclaimer exists for good reason. Also they glossed over what will happen when currency confidence falls. Because of global interdependency the situation is far more complex than just a single nation unwinding, and they suggest this but they don't consider how governments may co-operate in the future. It's not in China's interests to have the USD fail and that's why they buy US Treasuries. China has colossal issues of their own with bad loans etc. to rival the 2008 crisis in the West. They also don't mention that in his measures to deal with the Depression, Roosevelt liquidated gold and did a compulsory buy-back at a fixed much lower rate. This reset the currency. BUT anyone who paid a premium for gold prior to that, would have been hugely out of pocket. They got compensated very poorly. Because it's so difficult to predict how this will shake out, and what government measures will be taken, any sensible person would have a diversified portfolio across different asset classes and not just have everything in physical gold. The latter is a security risk as well. There are ways of having exposure to precious metals, including buying ETFs, shares in. mining stocks, etc. In the post carbon economy there are colossal opportunities for exposure to metals like nickel, copper, and rare earths. There are clearly other forms of currency, and etherium and others which are dealing with the colossal challenge of the energy expended in block chain processes, are worth looking at. (Disclosure I do not hold those Yet.)

When did it become common to have changes of clothes? When did the tv beome popular? When did having a single car in a family become common. Most people live better now because of all they can buy. Where they to cut back and live as they did 80+ years ago, they would have a lot more left in their pockets. Sorry, this is one of the horrible half truths in this advertisement for precious metals.

@@davidorlans3482 its funny to me to see old homes built in the 50s. Small driveway, additions and the closets are tiny... Because back then they actually did wear 2-3 sets of clothes and that was it. You know cartoon characters never change their outfits? It's because that's how people did things until standards of living took off. And don't forget now everyone either has a tv or PC. Many also have tablets and smart devices. And gaming consoles. And the phone cost is nearly 1000% what it was 30 years ago. Consume consume consume and grow grow grow is what keeps the economy going so we're always manipulated into seeing the consumption as normal, even necessary, because in the infinite growth model if people didn't buy more then the whole thing collapses. It's strange to think about that even most of the people who are "barely getting by" are comparatively wealthy. But it's because most of the things they own have little to no resell value. Because everyone is over consuming. It's paradoxical. Like how your car loses a significant portion of it's value when you drive it off the lot. A brand new smartphone loses 70-90% of its value the moment its purchased. Clothes, the thing we use to keep warm and protect us, are so over produced and over consumed that they largely get shipped overseas to be incinerated. By the ton. The thing is fine. The thing has its same value. There's just so much of it that we'd sooner throw it away and buy a new one than even consider if this is what's making us poor. That our wealth, the system built around infinite growth of wealth, is devaluing everything we have and work for. Those 1950s houses, still perfectly good houses, often get torn down to make a new one to make more profit from potential buyers. And the new house will be 10x the price while only double the space. Late stage capitalism is strange.

What is coming? For decades? Maybe you should stop lol can't imagine the potential gains you've missed out on for decades. Ponzi schemes, as the vid points out is when there is no profit, gdp is profit. When government spends its different from when Joe spends money. It should be seen as investment to increase gdp not just "spending". You said you're a CPA, when a company invests money does it flow p&l or the bs (asset)? When a company purchases large assets, ff&e, does it flow to p&l or the bs? Deficit means excess of cash flow not "loss". Not saying we should ignore this vid, we should consider the risks, however, some facts are off.

Our civilization depends on specialization. We would not have such easy communication without experts in many fields, least of all computers. We are different than previous cultures in that we don't have to build our own house, grow our food, educate our kids, doctor our wounds or make our clothes. Instead, specialists do these jobs so well their products are available and cheap. Those trying to get in touch with their Inner Survivalist never think about such things as sanitation, rampant disease, loss of energy or the ability to comminicate. It's all guns and food.

One thing they didn't cover in this video is that after Nixon took us off the gold standard Henry Kissinger went and made a deal with King Faisal of Saudi Arabia that made it so that the Saudis and the rest of the oil producing countries would only take dollars for their oil. Anyone who wants to buy Middle Eastern oil has first to buy dollars to pay for it with. So in effect the US currency went from being backed by gold to being backed by Middle Eastern oil, and that is the only thing that has kept it afloat in recent years and you're right that is why we keep going to war over there. If Saddam Hussein had gone into Saudi Arabia after taking Kuwait in the summer of 1990 that whole thing would have unraveled. And that is the only thing propping up the US dollar today. China has been making noises to the Saudis about wanting to use their own currency to pay for Saudi oil and if they ever pull that off then God help us...

Inflation is among the reasons why people keep buying stuff and investing instead of hoarding for rainy days, as hoarding few more numbers on your bank account will only result in losing the value of your savings every year due to inflation, which in consequence keep the economy rolling and people in jobs... While there are issues with this model like for example housing market buying sprees of rich through various hedge funds which in consequence artificially raising prices of housing despite no real rise in demand from actual families that would like to live in such houses, the alternative is usually associated with some post-apocalyptic scenario in case people would hoard gold that they don't need to get rid off in exchange for products and services that produce jobs if there is no fear from loss in value of holdings like gold. The use of gold or gold-backed dollar without fear of hyperinflation would solve consumerism somewhat and perhaps, even more, help the environment but at the price of lost jobs due to lack of demand from plenty of scared people trying to get rid of their worthless numbers on accounts and their physical representation in form of cash that become toilet paper if big market crash hit the deck, so fear is keeping this system running somewhat, while switching to something people can hoard without the fear of loss may not.. The issue is not inflation itself but the fact of the US low taxes inability to properly fund the needs of the developed nation, far less fund a superpower with the need for extra spending on the military, intelligence, etc., so government using loans instead, and in consequence, everyone pays higher taxes anyway just in the more hidden form of increased inflation instead of using taxes that allowing to put the burden on people which can actually afford it. In the US, rich people are often the one's capable pay the lowest percentage of their earnings through various loopholes that the poor are unable to utilize and this is counterproductive to the economy due to the concentration of wealth into the hands of few that may not use their wealth as much to propel the economy as could do the same wealth if dispersed among the population, even though it makes the US a good place to create a startup. While Biden wants to increase taxes for corporations to fund his projects, this is just a drop in the bucket of what is necessary to move the federal budget into green numbers, not to mention that taxing corporations instead of rich may be easier to achieve but it is also less productive for the economy.

@@IonorReasSpamGenerator The problem is that the standard of living of many people is shrinking while other people get richer and richer although they're not really working for it. It is non only injust, but also inefficient if people who don't do anything have the highest standard of living. Controlling the currencies is just a method of enforcing their power. Therefore, inflation as a direct consequence of their currency-policies sure is quite near the roots of the problem. Centuries ago people have been blind enough to believe god wanted them to be poor peasants. Today, in modern society, you need something smarter to trick people. I just hope people will realize how far the rich ones haven taken the system and with it everyones lives.
