Barcelona won because of stellar play from Messi and the midfield, not because they ousted a beast of a striker that averaged 25-30 goals a year. The Ibra trade was absolutely lopsided. Eto'o should have stayed for another three years. He was integral in the 2006 domestic/UCL double and also in that treble in 2009 before Pep's stupid trade. He then was massive for Inter the next year in 2010 and won the treble with Inter. He absolutely won the argument. What the hell did Ibra do in that 2010 season? He was massively disappointing and also Pep just ended up going to war with him as well. Completely dumb trade. I respect Pep and he is a legend, but he got that one wrong. Not even a debate.

I remember when Eto scored a goal out of nowhere against united in UCL Final of 2009. United were on the front foot and CR7 had already hit the post...then Eto, from nowhere, scored...he was a wonderful striker.

It was all about the record; pep couldn’t stand an African having any records at Barca. I quit being a fan of Barca ever since. His teammates could’ve put their feet down but they also never cared, Bravo Samu. Toujours un fier Camerounais et Africain. Merci.

@Mo, you're very right. Unlike these days, during that time many of Spanish league teams were just prejudice. Remember how RMadrid treated Makelele, until he decided to move to Chelsea under Mourinho. He was the least payed player in RM team despite being considered the best holding midfielder in Europe by his fellow players and pundits. But to be honest climate has improved in La Liga since then.

It's not all about the record. Africans already had records at Barca, nothing Guardiola did could erase that. Have you considered that perhaps he didn't like Eto'o because of technical reasons? Look at the strikers Guardiola typically prefers and u can tell Eto'o isn't like that. Suarez, Villa, Bojan, Aguero, Jesus, Alexis, Pedro etc. That's why there was the incident Guardiola was given lessons on striker movements to Eto'o. Eto'o was a great scorer but he didn't do things the way Guardiola wanted him to. Same with Yaya, Ibrahimovich, Ronaldinho, etc... It's not an African or black racial thing. Pep uses Mahrez and many other black players. He just has a very specific way things have to be done and if u don't do it that way, he won't play u.

I also wanna say I'm not a big fan of Pep but I am a big fan of his successor Tito Villanova because he was different he didn't get rid of anyone and instead tried to give everyone the fair amount of playing time and always got the best out of the players he had and didn't need to buy players to take the place of those who couldn't play

Ronaldo Nazario was a far better striker at Inter Milan than Samuel Eto’o. He just didn’t have as good of a team surrounding him.

Amala 1908 Well it was a decent team, but not as stacked as Mourinho’s 2010 treble winners. There were only 2 really good attacking players on that team, Djourkaeff and Ronaldo. Although they did win the Champions Cup final against Lazio, Ronaldo was brilliant in that match as well.

People think Pep has a problem with race and it's stupid to bring Race into question, Zlatan and guardiola have beef but he wasn't African, Deco was traded yet he wasn't African, he trades the players away because he recreates the team he manages to his liking and the players he traded he didn't see a way for them to fit into the squad he wants to make. Overall I'm happy for Eto'o as soon as Guardiola took over he wanted Messi to be at the core of it all and he didn't see a way for Eto'o to fit into the squad and I personally always wanted to see Eto'o under Mou's management and it was the stuff of Dreams, their first season together was monstrous, Mou made sure to stick it to Guardiola by making Eto'o his striker and he didn't let Mou down and he even scored against Barca in the semis to send Inter to the UCL Final which they would win. Overall a treble, a monster goalscoring season and scoring against the manager that wanted you out, Major Success. Samuel Eto'o is one of my favourite all time players

Two things I do not believe about this story: 1) Eto'o only scored two goals. 2) Thierry Henry loved the number 14 so I doubt very highly he was, "very happy" about a shirt swap to number 9.

Eto was a indeed a legendary player for barca and he showed his quality when he went to inter also even though he played mainly on the right wing His only issue was he always wanted to be the main star, he didnt like it when ronaldinho was the main man and all attention on him and then he couldnt deal with the emergence of messi. Ronaldinho knew that when messi started to play he would be the main player but eto couldnt deal with that fact.
