The Day Roger Federer Entertained Michael Jordan (Pure Genius Tennis)

Спорт

When GOAT Recognizes GOAT!
Jordan and Federer have been good friends and fans of each other for quite a few years now. However, the two took their relationship to a whole new level with a special collaboration.
“I am nervous for Roger Federer” - Michael Jordan
In 2014, the two legends collaborated to help design a new Federer shoe inspired by a classic 1988 Air Jordan model. Subsequently, Jordan came as a special guest in Roger Federer’s courtside box at the Grand Slam tournament.
It was one of the best matches of Roger Federer's career, one of his best performances ever!

Roger Federer has a strong case for goat because of eight Wimbledon‘s and five US opens in a row (Mostly agreed to be the two most important of four grand slams), which the other two rivals cannot meet, even if they can manage to match or exceed his 20GS titles :-) ...And yes elegance, pure passion and thoughtfulness, all while not especially being heavily built or especially any superhuman physique. He just has a great mind and great balance, Which has afforded him his unbeatable longevity and great comeback where he has proven to overcome Rafael Nadal outside of the French Open, as mentioned above. He has proven that he can still beat Novak Djokovic which she did at the ATP to her finals recently. And also in last year’s Wimbledon even though he lost the key points at the end of three sets in the finals overall he played better at old age against the youngest of the big three. He has reached more grand slam finals than anyone else, because he just has so many tools and plays his best throughout matches he is the one player who uniquely has the most matches were he won more points and manage to still lose, because in tennis you especially just need to hold serves and win the last couple points in a row of one more Set than your opponent.

But McDonalds is the biggest restaurant company in the world, around 60 millions people eat there every day. Does that make it great ? Questions the audience wants to hear, and answers from one of the world’s greatest ever athletes that are direct, educated, sympathetic and genuinely nicely delivered. Right, he was playing pretty solid. But Roger is a hard court monster and he can do half volleys from the baseline taking time away from his opponent, and the harder the ball, the faster Roger can get it past him. Like Roddick tried so many times, out powering Roger doesn't quite work, you have to out manoeuvre him, or out rally him like nadal and djokovic do.

@TheAstrius Nadal has been focusing on Grand Slams more ever since his miraculous return from that terrible 2015-2016 injury ridden phase, and using his energy in a very calculated way, unlike Djokovic who just plays around the world winning titles. May all blessings be with him, but we shall see how long Djoko is able to do that. NOW , other than that I'm not a big fan of "Nadal is just a clay expert" argument. That's so 2008. For God's sakes the man has more US Open Titles than Djokovic, who is supposed to be a hard court expert. Nadal is just one title away from the all time record of 5 in US. He may very well have repeated his 2019 victory there this year if he hadn't pulled out due to COVID rescheduling issues. Nadal's style of play requires a lot of power and energy, so he unfortunately can't go around winning all the time. That's the only reason he isn't number one. If you observe, you'll see that an injury-free, well-rested energetic Nadal is Still almost unbeatable in most courts. If he doesn't fare well on certain turfs , that's almost always because his team decided that it's not worthy to waste energy and risk injury everywhere ( Case in Point: Nadal lost 3-0 to schwartzman a week prior to French Open, only to DEMOLISH schwartzman and Djokovic in French Open like it was NOTHING).

There always have been good announcers. Sometimes for the first round, even at the US Open they may not have the best ones though. But Luke Jensen, the main commentator here, wasn’t bad in his own right during his career though especially in doubles, and could serve off both sides. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luke_Jensen

I think more than simply running (there maybe some others who could run as fast or faster, although MJ’s jumping was great!), these goat’s respectively were so talented and skilled that they could plan, anticipate and react extremely quickly as part of their great overall package. Roger’s hands and catlike reflexes as well as gracefulness around the court is unmatchable. MJ learned well from his older brother and practiced harder than any other, and as he said here mastered the fundamentals, on top of his athleticism especially jumping and working with his team, the Bulls, to win the most. Roger also has mastered so many classical fundamentals in tennis for great balance and play, so he could also hit amazing shots sometimes never or rarely hit by anyone else to be a champion.
