Rafa and Novak have mental resiliance from another planet, this is what sets these two above the rest. Rafa has had this his entire career and Novak perfected it probably in late 2010 before he became virtually unstoppable. This is one of the most inspiring sets of tennis I have ever seen

Even if Nadal did end up losing the 3rd set I'd be willing to bet prolonging set 3 would play to his advantage anyway. I'd easily bet on Nadal to keep form longer than his opponent so making him work harder to win the set helps him.

I remember watching this match with my father. We were talking about how rafa should sell the set, about he could just get fueled out fighting like that in a clear lost set. I also remember, how, slowly he came back and won the set, my father and me just couldnt believe It. Ill always remember that match.

@@tarjji Yeah but Nadal isn't so overconfident on clay that he'd just toss the man a set giving him a chance to come back. At the end of the day his opponent is still a professional Tennis player so why take the risk of giving him a set? Rafa fights for every point.

Winning a set from 5-1 40-0 down is like surviving at 1 Health Point in a video game & clearing the level at the end. Rafa saved 8 set points against Andujar. Look at his speed at 6:00 to get the 2nd break back. Also at 7:47, his footwork to hit the inside out forehand. Just marvelous! ❤️ Awesome video as always sLlorca 🔥

@@ChrisE-iy7ok I can respect your response. Of course, Rafa was physically better back then, but I feel like he’s added a little more variety & different strategies to his game, now that he’s older. As for losing RG 2021, it happens. As for winning AO 2022 cuz Djok wasn’t there, I don’t think it’s fair to minimize that win. The situation has been reversed on many occasions. Rafa has missed slams that Djok won but that doesn’t make Djok’s wins less impressive. In both scenarios, Rafa & Djok had to win 7 matches to be the champion. Respect should be given to BOTH of them for being the phenomenal champions that they are.

Nah, this is where you're wrong, this actually helps Nadal immensely on the mental side for his future matches to win sets like these, also it gives him a huge mental edge against the player and players he didn't even play yet, because they go in a match with him already with a mental block thinking that he will probably fight for every set like this. This is actually a classic example of getting back what you work for, while someone like Federer would give up the set and win the fourth easily he still doesn't get any advantage from it except making it easy for himself in that particular match.

i love the way andujar went out in this match. he made a lot of errors but he went out knowing that the only way to win was to play as aggressive as possible. sure it didn’t work out but it rarely does against the goat in france

it's gotta be unbelievably frustrating to hit winners only to have it come right back, again and again. especially after a 40 hit rally, it's gotta be brutal. and losing a long rally is still a win for Nadal, since he enjoys it while his opponent probably doesn't.

Federer will go down in my books as a gentleman and one of the most graceful to watch, Djokovic may end his career with the most slams, but Nadal will always be one of my faves for his mental toughness and how he never gives up on every point.. One of the best to play the game

Nadal is actually much more the gentleman than Federer. When was the last time you saw Nadal smash a ball into the crown in disgust? Federer does it quite regularly. I don't get why the media perpetuates this myth that federer is such a gentleman when Rafa is the greatest sportsman the game has seen, along with Edberg.

Yes, he smashed balls when he was younger but into the crowd during a match would result in warnings or disqualification. I'm not the biggest Fed fan, but he is an excellent ambassador of the game. Sure, you don't understand how everyone, including players, hold Federer in the highest regard, but that's for you to find out. If you said Kyrgios or Andy Murray, I'd understand, but Federer appears to be a gentleman to most people..

Nadal just waited for the betting odds to go against him. I just can see the faces of the people who bet against Nadal on the 3rd set.

I forgot about this match. This is why Rafa is so amazing. He fights fo every point, no matter the score. The only comeback I can think of bigger than this in a set is Chanda Rubin against Jana Novotna. She was down 0-5 0-40 in the final set and came back and won the match.

Actually, that was partly my point that Rafa could not play with a wooden racket - the game has moved on in so many ways. As for Borg’s mental strength, well most people including McEnroe thought that Borg would fold after having lost the tie break in the Wimbledon final, but then Borg came back to win the 5th set. Of course, after having won 11 Grand Slams, Borg ran out of ambition and retired at the very young age of 25 or so. Still, I like both Borg and Nadal so nothing more to add really.

But Rafa didn’t give up and still in focus to win... Rafa really is worth watching to watch...👏

From a score perspective, it doesn't matter so much how many points / games your opponent has. At the end you still need to win 6 or more games in order to win a set. It's incredible how Nadal was able to keep focus and not let it get to his head.

A lot of Djoko fans try to dismiss him to a point that's unbelievable...some despise him so much, so unfairly. His great, one of the 3 GOATs, it's my favourite but I wouldn't say any of them is better or worse.​@@ME-is6zt

People have lost from match points in championships. That one point makes the difference sometimes. Great effort by Rafa.

And imagine for Andujar . “For Set” keeps on flashing before him but Nadal just keeps hustling.

If it was someone else, he would have let the opponent win to save energy but Rafa is different! He'll never give up until he knows that there's still a possibility to win. That's called a FIGHTING SPIRIT!!!

I was hopping that kind of miracle last time with tsisipas on the last set. Nadal was so tired, and he couldn't win neither a point with tsisipas service. But so many times players have to play a lot of game points against him if they want to win the match to Nadal at the very end. And even tsisipas at that time was a little worried, he wanted to really finish that game as soon as possible.

I have done the same when I was child I can’t imagine how it’s could be difficult during a professional match !

Even crazier is that a lot of the games after trailing 1-5, 0-40 were hard fought back & forth games. You would think a player would get hot and domintate to come back and win the set. It shows just how much he battles and wears his opponents down...UNBELIEVABLE!!!

How entertaining :) Andujar had in every game some set points against Nadal. Nadal had to fight very hard for every game. And only when they are at 5-5 Andujar wins the next game and we see a Tie Break. Wow and thank you for the show. Both players^^

he just never gives up, this is why I'm such a big fan.

Reminds me of a time I did that myself; 5-1 40-0 down, I managed to rally to 6-6, but I lost the tiebreak 7-2, hehe. Massive respect to Rafa for being able to pull through where it counts

Practical definition of "never give up"

Andujar could’ve ended it a couple times but it was clear Nadal was very much in his head… Nadal chases down balls at the bet that most people would just accept they lost the point. He knows if he gets to it that close to the net he has opponent dead to rights. Absolutely amazing match to watch.
