Late 1960's to 1990 - Big Trucks and Big Timber on the West Coast of British Columbia - Yarders and skidders where used to bring the timber to the landings and first bull dozers and later excavators to build the logging roads with the tank drills taking care of any drilling / blasting ' Roads were built at a slight grade up hill and all vechicles had 2 Way Radio's to pull over when a loaded truck with 125 - 150 tons was coming out of the bush - The only big timber left is in the Queen Charlotte Islands - GOOD OLD DAYS IN LOGGING

Hayes and Pacific (Pacific was started by former Hayes employees) were icons. Sad that local companies get wiped out by international investors. The remnants of Pacific is now owned by a local company. But Hayes was bought and shut down by Paccar in 1975.

Living on Vancoucer Island for 60 years, I can verify that the size of the logs are substantially smaller over the years. Whenever a load of logs goes past waiting for the light to get on the Trans Canada Hwy, I say "pecker poles". I do not even know what that means but say it anyways. Forty years ago, when travelling the logging roads to get out to the west coast, you would past these monsters with huge trees and it would literally scare the crap out of you as they pasted and you were stopped and pulled hard over on the side of the logging road.

Not only due to deforestation, but also the logging and wood market changed drastically over the decades. With a new market using only cheaper glued aglomerated wood all those massive wooden furniture and construction materials disapeared and fell out of use as time passed.

Ive owned 2 Hayes HDXs. A 65 & a 72. Wish I had kept them both. I still have the gold anidized "Hayes" side plates off the 72

Their off road capabilities are way beyond anything of the time. HEAVY DUTY!

Hauled many a load of logs on some very steep roads with these trucks. Many still are at work still.

I saw many times the Hayes of Izquierdo and Arbegui in Spain. The sound is beautiful,it s like the french diesel locomotive CC72000.

For a Hayes/Pacific truck lover (me), you did a Pretty good video. I never knew about the giant flagpole tree story, good surprise.

i had a ride in one of these, absolutely wild! we were going up hill pedal to the metal, and the driver blow the air horn, couldn't hear it ... then coming down fully loaded, your bones vibrate inside, your teeth start loosing... and if you don't clanche well...

Mac blo I used to work for them ,I also remember the day the hayes plant burned down and the 401(yes BC had a 401 too....)was closed due to the smoke

these trucks are still everywhere, very popular/indispensable along the coast, some have 60years of grease in layers,seats completely eated by rat... still going 10h a day up and down crazy hills

That's impressive what they did with the lengthy logs back in the day.

That's cool the current picture for February on my calendar shows a really long log to be a flag pole being transported by two trucks from 1958.

We used to haul 140,000 lbs HD Hayes for Weyco Ok Falls Trucks were owned by GP Sawczuck Penticton BC😊😊😊😊

Hayes off highway log trucks were so strong and well built that logging companies, instead of eventually buying new trucks, could seemingly endlessly rebuild the trucks they had.

I want to learn about Scot, Ibex, Zeligson, Sicard, and Dynatel. Dynatel is easily the most obscure brand of the five there. Only a few pieces of information about them can be found on the net. They were a Canadian custom truck manufacturer based in Ontario. And they were around in the 1970s.

This is very educational in fact in Abbotsford BC there is a HAYES Clipper over the road truck 1963 conventional in show room condition and has a dog house sleeper behind the cab and goes coast to coast long hauling freight yes a tip of the🎩to ARNIE

the one i ridden wasn't ...it's build for logging road not tundra lol.. but the gearing ratio is pretty low... and the thing is enormous, once it have momentum there's just nothing to stop it...

A great company with original and historical begining ending by the hands of greedy and selfish corporates. AGAIN !

I saw a Hayes DX heavy, hauling a tree.............just 1, cut into two pieces, it filled the entirety of the trailer volume. and the base width dwarfed the truck itself ........this was in 2015, so, there are still some giants out there.

i broke in on hd Hayes, onto the handsome Clipper Hayes, 5 X 4 with the 3408 cat engine power galore, loved these units, & Dad run the HDX HEAVY HAULERS IN FORT McMurry Oil Sands PLANATARY DRIVES DID THE JOB with multi-wheeled trailers, leaders of heavy haul, great memories
