An outrageous film that I still love to this day. Great weather effects, in fact 90% of the reason I rewatch it every once in a while.

Like all disaster movies, there's plenty of artistic license here. It's not meant to be realistic. Same as volcanoes in Los Angeles, an ocean liner capsizing from a giant tidal wave, or attacks from outer space, it's designed to get you invested in the action, storyline and characters, which this movie does very well. I loved it.

Best thing is modern writing doesnt allow for smart people or dialog/scripts, nearly every movie has most people act hight incompetant to just plain out mega dumb (exception MIGHT be the main cast and even then you got a good chance of dumb writing).

I like this movie and I support doing something about climate change. That said the movie villianizing protecting our economy is dumb. The reason less and less ppl are starving and die from preventable diseases is because we have grown our economy. Having a strong global economy is the number one thing that has saved the most amount of lives. Climate change has increased the frequency of some natural disasters but deaths from those disasters are at an all time low. That is because of weather tracking, advanced alert systems, etc.. All of which we only have because our economy has been strong. Any solution we decide on has to consider the opportunity cost of said solution. Climate change is not the only issue humans face and cannot be treated as such. And the "I love money" guy is corny. As if redirecting large parts of our economy isn't going to benefit large businesses. As if greed isn't involved there as well. As if power grabs aren't being taken by the government. Everyone thinks the government is so corrupt and doesn't work for the common person but when it comes to something they like they will hand over all the power to the government. Logically inconsistent.

STOP PICKING ON VEGANS!!! LOL! You can grow food vertically & in containers to save space. There is plenty of unused land in the midwest. You'd be surprised what you can grow in your yard, even your balcony. I don't have a problem with people eating meat. In rural areas, it's part of living off the land. If you notice, when you buy meat from the store, it smells different. So support small, local farmers. It's good to know where your food comes from.

But it mirrors the real world. So yes in the movie it was caused by man made things, the movie creators just Hollywoodified man made climate change into a weather disaster flick. even though that's not how gradually worsening climate change works(atleast not yet and hopefully it never gets so bad) It's clear the message being sent with Washington being so firmly against doing anything and dismissing the problem because the sky isn't immediately falling on people's heads. Well in this movie that's exactly what happens. That's why the movie is focused on the vice president learning his lesson and having character development after it's too late.

I'm not sure what scientists you were listening to in the 70s if you were around then, but man made climate change is broadly unpredictable in many ways for both trajectory models and estimating worst case scenarios due to how many variables there are in weather and the scale of co2 emissions being released at any given time. The only thing that is reliably predictable is that things will get much worse on an incline as time goes on because of how much unnatural heat is being trapped with nowhere to disperse, leading to destruction of ecosystems, food supply and in worse case gradual rising of the sea level.

A plant-based diet uses far less arable land than one using meat and dairy. Beef is bad because it uses more land for a longer time than veggies and poultry. It is also worse for your health. Still, meat is tasty and gives you more protein and well…. I eat it, too.

Although climate change is obviously not Hollywoodified as this movie, it's still going to cause untold damage to our planet we can still stop if we had the political will and didn't have the oil and gas lobby as so strong to preserve the status quo for profits. For that reason I'll always appreciate this movie for making me more anxious about this subject when I was younger. I think we need that sort of thing to keep us atleast focused on our situation.
