As a lay person / dog owner this was a great breakdown. I have seen and enjoy Tom’s videos. A trainer’s critique on the methods and knowledge behind training techniques was very interesting & consistency is key. Thank you 🙏

Glad you enjoyed it! Like I think we said at the end, no big issue with him and sure he’s helping people. I do think understanding some of the holes is important too.

nothing he is doing is horrendously bad. But i do think there are some key things to note as far as places where things aren't described or dont in the way they should be.

Damn I had missed this one. Tom Davis was my first source of info when I had my first dog. It's been helpful, but I'm glad I moved from it. Another point he scored in my mind, is that he had Tyler Muto on his podcast > I leeched from Tyler until he stopped working > Found you guys > I learn that Tyler mentored you. Great

I think that there is a lot of good Tom is doing for the dog world. I just think he has some growing to do with the understanding of his methods.

You should check out his older videos, less frickin drama and media oriented. Good to critique. New to your channel. In love. Binging out! You rock. I shared you with a gang of trainers here in Ontario 😉

A lot of the old videos from Upstate are long process videos that are not super entertaining to the average viewer but very educational in terms of seeing what the actual unedited process is.

we watched one of his older ones in the PT2. My issue isn't the length of the videos. Just the inacurateness of the methods.

Tom davis got me into balanced dog training. He was my step in. Thankfully, i enjoy following a diverse amount of trainers now but he was an easy way in. His podcast is more nuanced and less confusing then his regular videos, to me

I think Tom is the gateway drug into balanced dog training. He has such a charismatic and friendly vibe to him and speaks on these tools in such a “nice” way. To a fault in my opinion. But It does get people to accept them who may be on the fence which I have a lot of respect for.

Not sure if y’all have figured out the whole screen record and film thing but OBS might be a great tool especially if the podcast isn’t live. Can set it up for reaction style videos with you guys big and the video small. Obviously it depends on what you guys set up is far as hardware.

Have you seen Ivan's stance on how he uses his prong collars? Found it really interesting, totally made sense given his style/sport focus. His metaphor when asked the question why his prongs sit so low on his dog's necks is because he thinks it'd be like having a "loaded gun" to their head the entire time, and could make them behave as such. He uses them more for building drive and agitating the dog, which likely makes sense for sport world, maybe not so much every average owner. Never had thought of it that way though- he usually always leaves me going "🧐🤯🤔🙃" (like his notorious e-collar debate podcast)-as most of his podcasts do lol, he has such a deep perspective- he's an over thinker but because I think he has experienced things first hand. He uses it up high occasionally to tune-up etc, but has some out of the box points as he usually does 🤣

Yup, the low loose prong is pretty common in dog sports. Agitation and using it to create stimulation and drive is something a lot of pet dog trainers don’t understand because we would never use it that way. It always cracks me up when I see people talk shit about guys like him with loose prongs acting like they don’t know how to fit one properly LOL

@@MiracleK9Training there is ALWAYS a reason professional trainer uses tools the way they do! Just like the ecollars on the tails to speed that hind end up! I would never bash anyone with such success, always just ask why and totally can learn something lol Not my forte, that style with dogs, but it is as meticulous and skilled as can be-reading those comments also made me laugh so hard 😆 Apparently he doesn't share them, but he is a fricken wizard in the pet dog world too. I would LOVE to see more raw content from him- but he is just not that type! Maybe if I paid 12k for his school 😅 Even if you disagree with a use of a tool or style, always just use it to add to your repertoire or know what NOT to do. The bashing is so unnecessary. I actually used his loose and too large a size (in our expectations) on a dog last month to get a pet dog just simply interested in tug/play, dragging it on a leash 😂 a massive Pyranees-good dog, no drive for anything (after fasting him for almost 3 days too...), no need to be heavy handed- and with a harness he just would lie down! We have to get creative!

This is the perfect example of how confusing it can be as a consumer of dog training content. It seems like no two trainers have the same method of getting to the desired end result of a well behaved, happy, obedient dog. The disagreement could be over something as simple as “is teaching your dog “stay” productive or useless” or something much more complicated like e-collar training and when the right time to push the button is. I’m not saying that you guys are wrong but instead trying to convey how confusing this can be when you are consuming content from multiple trainers!

to each their own! I get what you're saying for sure. The intention is more to highlight inconsistencies in the use of things to shed light that a lot of peoples favorite and most followed trainers are not actually the most knowledgeable.

Finally a trainer who gets that sit doesn't need a stay and that they are 2 different commands. Both sit and down automatically mean remain in that position until you get the command to end it. It kinda triggers me to see trainers putting a dog in a sit and then just drag it further while it was obediently staying in a sit 😂😂 dog training is so easy yet owners and (some) trainers alike overcomplicate it and think it's easier that way. The fascinating thing is that dogs tend to understand it anyway. They can be smarter that their owner 🤣

I like 'leave it'. Living with someone who doesn't speak dog and uses 'no' with no rhyme or reason, and no enforcing it, leave it has helped me get nice house manners. Any tips to train husbands??

  • @MiracleK9Training

    @MiracleK9Training

    Жыл бұрын

LOL no tips on that! As far as leave it is concerned vs NO. It isn’t the WORD I have an issue with. Just the meaning behind it. Almost 100% of the things that we use leave it for we want the dog to never do. Pick shit up off the ground, react at other dogs, get into thing, etc etc etc. using leave it how most people do which is as an interrupter puts you perpetually in a trap of constantly nagging the dog never gets you past the problem. Now, let’s say you want to use “leave it” like you would use your “no” marker (which means there will ALWAYS be a correction following it. So the leave it is just your negative marker so it will actually create an inhibition). That would be perfectly fine at that point.

I use "Leave it" too as a command as I've noticed ( especially on working dogs that are, how you've said, sometimes allowed to get things ) that it loads them up a lot so, as a matter of fact, between throwing a dog to bite something very very very hard i usually have him playing with the tool, ask him to leave it, ask him if he's ready in a very "get your ass charged up" way than I ask him to go bite. Still you're proving your point in a very good way. Thanks for sharing your thoughts
