GOT is all based off of the medieval world, and stockpiling children for love and practical purposes is something that we modern people don't really have an understanding of. At a royal level, it was absolutely necessary in order to ensure the safety of not only your family, but the entire country. At a peasant level, the more children you had the less likely you would end up as a homeless beger on the street if you became handicapped or if you made it to be too old to work hard labor. They loved their kids for sure, but there was a practical application to having them back then as well that we are blessed not to have to worry about now.

Sure, it's plausible. But also, having a lot of children was generally a thing in medieval times and Rhaenyra does seem to love them beyond their duty as her heirs, even if the dragon advantage surely has some relevancy.
This is absurd. Every single medieval lord tried to produce as many children as they could in order to have more avenues for alliances. Rhaenyra is doing what’s expected of her as heir to the throne- IE, making more heirs.

The major factor that led to her losing the control of King's Landing is Larys Strong
I honestly think she just enjoyed Harwin’s company at first. Maybe by Joffrey she realized the Hightower’s were a threat and that’s why she aligned with Daemon. Not only did they have two more (surviving) kids, but she also inherited two daughters, both of whom would eventually become dragon riders and their grandmother, who was also a dragon rider married to the captain of the biggest fleet in Westeros. The black side was ridiculously OP compared to the 3 green dragons. The only thing going for them is they are in King’s Landing and the people just really disliked the idea of a female heir. And Daemon’s plan to kill one of Helaena’s children early in the war was a huge tactical error. Nobody realized they were at war yet, the kids were so young, and Rhaenyra wound up riding into King’s Landing already being called “Rhaenyra the Cruel” because of it.

The high towers/redwine, the west and stormlands combined with vhagar, sunfyre and dreamfyre are very formidable opposition. By failing to choose a husband when she was given the option; something most MEN of noble birth don't even have the choice of having. More to the point, Rhaenyra and Laenor barely tried. Jacaerys had to have been conceived within that time period since he was born very soon after the marriage, and Rhaenyra from the start talked with Laenor about having their own lovers on the side. Nothing about their duty. Hell, Rhaenyra tried to run away with Daemon in the MIDDLE OF THE WEDDING. Spare me about how hard she has it. She had every opportunity and squandered it.

@@stephenjenkins7971 LMFAOOO. Your comments just shows you lack an understanding of her situation. Her having a “choice” is an illusion, you think if she decided to marry some commoner, they all would’ve just accepted it? No, she still had to marry someone of noble birth, with a powerful name and someone with the resources to back her claim, oh and also be within the same age range. So spare me the sob stories of men who don’t get the choice, because at the end of the day, neither did she. It’s genuinely astonishing how you people make Rhaenyra the bad guy for wanting a love match, like be serious💀 And we are told that they DID try to conceive a child together, it just didn’t happen, whether it’s a handful or a hundred times, if laenor is infertile, and lacks the ability to give Rhaenyra kids, it does not matter how many times they fuck, it wasn’t going to happen. Simply because they BOTH agreed in allowing each other see other people does not mean they wouldn’t take their roles seriously because clearly this woman and this man are willing to TRY and conceive a child together, despite not being attracted to each other and one being gay. And if you’re as dense to the point you’d believe Rhaenyra when she said she was willingly to run away with daemon if he just decided to take her, then surely you can also believe her when she tells daemon that her and laenor did try to have a child.
Pumping out children? Riiiiight
rhaenyra in the books is pretty much different from the show. she loved dresses, jewelry and styled herself lavishly. you can say she's pretty much feminine in a traditional way and in the books she didn't have any issues with having 6 children. idk why they went the whole 'i don't to marry, i don't want have kids route' it also seems she enjoyed being with harwin and laenor because harwin was present when rhaenyra was giving birth and men are generally strictly not allowed in birthing chambers even husbands at that time.
@bellaloves2815
Жыл бұрын
She didn’t want to marry because she feared it was a way to threaten her position as heir herself in place for a son she birthed and also because she was mourning the loss of her mother as well as her relationship with her father as a result of him becoming so heartbroken with his first wife’s death. And she was a young child in the first bit of the season and then she was angry at the fact she was not being treated as any other heir aka men and wanted to focus on that instead of just having children. But after she got married/when she and Laneor agreed to marry and do their duties to secure their positions, she loved being a mother and she did adore and love Harwin in a way that she had to keep hidden or else it would be found out publicly he was the boys father. And she becomes more feminine as the time skip happens, though she does differ from the books in that she doesn’t lavish herself in jewels but dresses very beautifully and different from the other women of the show, little darker and her dresses have more details in them but not overstating. They talk about her growth into more feminine and motherly roles while still being heir/queen in the behind the scenes and how close she really is to her first husband and how she loves being a mother. Her children’s death is what really sends her into her depression and then madness along with everything else to come.

Avenues for allies, dragons and continuation of the bloodline. Think about the Dance of Dragons. If Rhaenyra had stopped at her first 3 kids, she would literally have no one to continue her line after the war (seeing as her 3 first all end up dead by the end of the war).

Indeed ! And i do believe that it's true. In the Book, Alicent Hightower is irritated by the fact the Black Team gets more and more dragons, while her side seems to have hard times to obtain one, so they just have to put their entire trust on Vaghar (dragon of her son Aemond). It makes sense if you think about it. Plus children during those times died a lot as well. Or didn't make it past infancy because of diseases we take for granted/ don't see as threats today.
Love Jace, can’t wait for season 2:)
I totally understand the logic of having many kids here. In my culture it is custom to this day to have many kids. The purpose was to: 1. Extend the Family line, since so many died. 2. Supply sufficient numbers in case of any hostile situations, for example (a rival family might want to lay claim to one’s land, having many kids(sons) gives one a numbered advantage to defend that land)
I mean, some may even go as far as to sleep with their own siblings just for it!
Okay, maybe also consider that this is a medieval fantasy world, based on the Middle Ages. In the Middle Ages six kids wasn’t actually a big amount of kids to have, and there are a slew of other reasons for her to have that many kids. Also, it takes years and years for dragons to become weapons of mass destruction it’s not like as soon as you have another kid boom you’ve got a nuke
Doesnt track. Most likely, she just kept trying to have a silver headed child. To secure her honour. As a young girl she couldn't picture actual war between targaryan. Nor would she be so cunning, honestly
Considering her father told her that controlling the dragons is a load of BS, I don't think that's why she's having kids
This would make sense if Valyrian-blooded children guaranteed dragons. But as we see with Laena, Aegon II, Helaena, Aemond, Baela, Viserys II, and even Rhaenyra herself; a Targaryen child doesn’t guarantee a new dragon hatching. They all claimed dragons that already hatched, with some even having previous riders.

Sounds like what book Rhaenrya would do, but show Rhaenrya isn’t very strategic.
I wonder how diluted Valyrian blood can get before it is no longer possible to 'tame' a dragon. The targaeryans have surely had so many bastards amongst kings landing that a relatively significant proportion of the population should be genetically capable of it at this point.
“Pumping out” Bffr 💀

Rhaenyra is not a good military or long term planner. As a Targaryen she is likely to feel all her children have a right to ride dragons. Ironically on her side most dragon riders are not her children-Daemon,Rheanys,Leanor and Laena (and later Addam of Hull) plus the Two Betrayers and Nettles are not hers. Poor Viserys doesn't even get a dragon of his own. Of her children only Jacerys was any real good at riding dragons, and he got trapped in the worst way possible

It's more about the symbolism of how having children with their respective partners changed how Alicent and Rhaenyra felt about their situation. Rhaenyra didn't want them. But she was allowed to have them with men she truly loved. It helped her bond with her children Alicent, on the other hand, wanted children at first. But she was coerced into marrying Viserys. She didn't love him. She was dutiful, of course. But she didn't have the same feelings for Viserys that Rhaenyra had for Harwin and Daemon It also didn't help that Viserys still named Rhaenyra his heir and largely ignored his children with Alicent. Viserys truly loved Aemma. She was his cousin and friend, not just his wife. And he probably felt guilty for being responsible for hers and Baelon's deaths. His grief cemented Rhaenyra as his heir as a way to make up for what he did to Aemma. And none of that would have happened if Baelon had lived
Like having a nuclear ICBM with respawn
This such an insane take. Children alone do not guarantee dragons. Also, implying Rhaenyra “pumped” out children after watching every woman in her life die in childbirth AND to send them off to war is so gross

@@tommysoliz3064 she wasn’t happy in KL and that’s the reason she had kids lol and obviously she can’t be happy currently because her brother stole her crown and killed her son so now she has to go to war lol my point is she didn’t have a lot of kids with war in mind…
At least she loved her kids. Alicent seemed to only care when they are pawns
i wish they don't kill that cute boy.
Pumping out? Pretty gross way of describing a character having multiple children.
"Stockpiling children" is crazy
Like many people have pointed out in the comments, it is what was expected of her and the only tangible way a noble woman could accumulate power beyond her status during those times.
"stockpiling children" is a crazy way to put it😂😂🤣
Where can i get the artwork used in this video?? The one of daemon with caraxes is absolutely stunning 🔥🔥
Still, Aemond claiming Vhagar was the biggest loss the Blacks suffered before the war even started. Vhagar pretty much made the Greens a viable faction.
But what got me, is the fact that, Laena’s daughter didn’t have a dragon. It broke my heart. And when Laena told her about not having a dragon until she was older,!it gave her hope. And when her mother died, she hoped to get vagar and Aemond took her for himself.
Six is SO MANY?????
Rhaenyra was a strong woman. She had six kids and survived while so many of her female relatives of Targaryen blood lost many children and even died in childbirth. Her own mother was held down while the babe was cut from her body. Sadly, not even the child survived. 😢
Alicent was the one who had children for duty. Rhaenyra had simply due to reckless pleasure. She tried having with Leanor for duty but didn’t work out so she is using her other. 5 sons(well 4 now currently)
There is a theory that all the people whose dragon eggs hatch are not hatching them. Aegon the Conqueror had a dragon egg that did not hatch and had to wait for his father to die so he could inherit Baelarion. The theory is that a female Targaryen with blood on both sides is born and she by her presence near the eggs hatches all of them. Not every generation has one of those women, but this is why all the lintermarriage takes place.
She’s a wonderful mother though she really deserved the crown
We all know that’s not how she thinks. That’s how Daemon thinks.
Maybe but rhaenyera did love all her children even her still born visenya so yes she had reasons to have a lot of children however she never made them feel any less she loved them so much.
"Pumping out"😂😂
I just assumed that already
Nuclear: new-klee-ur 😕
Not as if there was birth control
I like how when people talk about the things the targaryens do is dark and evil, but people doing plottng to bring them to extinction is just brushed over as fair play.
Thats not a dark truth. Thats a badass metal truth.
Based on the show, I think she would also did it for love toward both Harwin Strong and Daemon
Now I see how it is.
Yeah true that more valerian blood more dragon. Also the timing of children by the time King Veserys depart the children and dragon are old enough to fight and defend them.
They all try to pump out as many kids to have as many dragon riders as possible, sad in the end both sides lost so many kids and dragons.
if that was the case she woulda let her kids fight in the dance but she told her youngers no
I don’t think they had birth control in those days😂
Part of the reason she did not want children was that she saw how her mother was treated, by her father and all others. Her mother was little more than a vessel that MIGHT produce a male heir. Her health was not considered, nor were her thoughts or wishes. She was not treated like a person, she was not important to anyone except as (this sounds harsh, but it's true) an incubator. She had no autonomy, including bodily autonomy. That's the first reason Rhaenyra did not want to have children. The second reason was that Rhaenyra was fiercely independent. Almost any man she might marry would expect her to act the part of dutiful, quiet, subservient housewife. Her own mother was that way with her father. She didn't want to be tied down with the expectation of her family and her husband to "pop-out" babies one after the other with everyone against her being her own person. She said as much to Alicent when Alicent was pregnant. With Daemon, she can be her own person, and be independent. He expects her not to be subservient to him. That expectation that she doesn't matter except for the heirs she might produce just isnt there for Rhaenyra in her marriage to Daemon. She is happy with him. So, that's part of why she goes from not wanting children to having a large number of children.
But, at least on the show, she also seems like a good, loving mother. She seems much warmer to her children than Alicent, and her children were more likely born out of love than Alicent’s.
Nice video, man! You just earned a subscriber 🙏🏻
Am I the only one that never got the impression she didn’t want kid? I just thought she didn’t want her life to be ABOUT being a mother and a baby maker but I never got the impression she didn’t want to have them
She also told them it didn’t matter who their father was as either way they were Targaryen and given that they all had dragons on solidified their claim as heirs.
I would say that more about Alicent and not Rhaenyra
I thought she only had 5. 3 sons with Harwin Strong and 2 sons with Daemon.

Rewatch ep 10
You may be right about that, however, as we learned in season one, just because they have the ‘blood of the dragon’ doesn’t mean they can control the dragon. In the last episode, the reason rheagar ate the other dragon was because he couldn’t be controlled.
It should be a law that every valerian has to have as many children as possible
You cant be sure about when war will come and than will few of them die really easily, so more kids is better for her family
I see no darker motive here, she is just smart

If that makes you smart Aegon must be a genius
I can't believe i didn’t put 2 and 2 together on this. Makes sense.
I mean if having kids really meant you’d also get a dragon, I’d probably pump some out myself 😂
You could say that she had quite a... hoard of them. ... I'll see myself out.
They don't know protection back then. Most of my grandmas batch😂, had more than 8 children.
I’m just now realizing the three dragon eggs in the Game of Thrones series and that there were three Targaryen’s. There was Daenerys, her brother and John snow.

the theme of having 3s in relate to the targaryens & dragons is actually a very common theme, it shows up a lot. there were 3 conquerors (Aegon I & his 2 sister-wives, Visenya & Rhaeys), the Targaryen sigil has 3 dragon heads (which was in reference to Aegon, Visenya, & Rhaeys), Maegor I had 6 wives, 3 of which were known as the "Black Brides", he also had 3 stillborn children. Queen Rhaena compared herself to Visenya & her sister Alysanne to Rhaeys, with the implication that Jaehaerys was Aegon. Queen Rhaena had 3 dragon eggs stolen from her. Dany was a "Child of 3" with her having her 2 brothers, she got 3 dragon eggs (probably the same 3 stolen from Rhaena), 3 dragons, etc. this is a common theme
I wouldn’t consider it a dark thing, a good chance she just wanted sex and got pregnant 6 times. The dragons are a bonus

If her motivation was having valyrian children to use as weapons, she wouldn't have had children with harwin strong, she would've made sure they were super valyrian, & had them with a targ or velaryon
She's doing what she was born to do...pump out heirs. Not for the dragons. To ensure the line of succession.
