I am deeply saddened by the fact that as an informative channel you haven't stated that a) this program and channel was removed from television due to it's frequent lies and false respresentation and manipulative aspects b) that the group was actually classed as a cult and that the 'kittens' were often blackmailed and forced into representing and working for the show c) This man is in prison and will remain in prison until his death due to charges such as 'Cult Leadership', 'Fraud', 'Blackmailing', 'Espionage' and 'High Level Sexual Harassment' d) all women have been freed from this group and many have spoken out about the horrific things they had to go through. Posting this video without any of this information and without any proper information on the group fails to show the actual darkness and horrid truths, and portrays İslam, İslam's many branches, and İstanbul, along with the rest of Turkey, as lawless, meaningless and depthless. I wish you would've cared to show more conversations had with Turkish and/or İslamic Feminists. I wish you would've researched into the topic and spoken to journalists and activits about the situation. This is an old video posted today, in 2020, and you didn't even care to add the current situation and developments to the end of the video as some text. I have lost all my trust as a viewer towards the Refinery29 family, and urge you to share videos with actual informative value whilst showing all of the story. If you want to look like you care about other cultures and lives, don't misrepresent and don't share only a portion of the story.

This man is now in jail because he has many crimes, from women's trafficking to fraud. In Turkey, this man is known as one engaged in prostitution, and not be loved by anyone. In addition, most of the scenes seen in TV series and movies are an exaggeration about Turkey. Istanbul or Turkey is not such a place, literally. It contains many religions and views which is such a normal thing. Moreover, Islam is not something as mentioned here. Unfortunately, just recently it has done such things to discredit Turkey. If you can research the right things from the right sources, you can better learn the accuracy or inaccuracy of what is described in this video. Thank you :)

It took me 5 minutes on the comment section and 15 minutes browsing to find out the Adnan Oktar was jailed in 2018 for accusations of sexual abuse (including minors)and financial fraud. Thank you for uploading the video (maybe i wouldn't have found out about it) but It would've taken you two lines on the description box or 3 seconds at the end of the video to include this hugely important information.

I know this story, it was so famous at some point in the beginning of the 21st century, it's annoying to see someone trying to raise money and fame to distort my religion and culture, really this is very annoying, this guy was supposed to be in prison, how he got out of there, he was in prison that I was sure and was in the news a few years ago! Oh, my God! 💔💔He exploits women and adjusts their forms with almost fatal plastic assembling surgeries, and shows them in his TV show to dance with him and he keeps saying words that have nothing to do with reality or anything related! I would try not to take it so personally, next cult they may interview could be anywhere in the world. It was not necessary to be brought up again, there are other things that can be talked about which can be more influential/useful in the terms of talking about femicide. They may have mentioned the year, but they should have included more context about the present situation. It is easy to miss it and assume that this video is recent if you do not know the context of this story. If this video is five years old, then they had plenty of time to edit and add this contextual information. All it took was to add a two-minute long disclaimer at the beginning of the video addressing this.

Hey I'm from Istanbul. I would also like to see the everyday life of Istanbul. These scenes only show touristic spots with an islamic perspective however Turkey has a broad spectrum of religions and amazing scenes of modernity. Not every women is covering their heads for ex:) You should also search for Nisantasi, Bagdat Caddesi, Caddebostan beach side, Kanlica etc. To have a better understanding when we are talking about Istanbul. Every corner has its unique taste. Love from Istanbul

Except she explained that he pulled ideas from multiple religions, so no one believes this is true Islam. He uses the term Islam to try to catch the eye of future recruits. Also, since you posted this, the court of appeals overturned his case and sent it back to retrial. So if you want them to update, you should probably donate money so they can hire a new employee whose sole job it is to check all of their videos for the most recent information and update them. I think most people understand that unless you are watching the current news, there is always a chance that things have happened since then.

Respectfully, I would highly encourage you to research more about Islam, or other religions for that matter, as often what we are ahown in the media etc is v biased For eg, for a person living in an Eastern country, seeing school shootings in America might make me think that that is what their religion is promoting, its a v misleading way to form prejudices based on j an article or news report I would encourage u to not just search on Google etc and instead we should all try to have a respectful open minded approach and really study the religious texts etc to fully get what it is all about I highly encourage you to read the Quran with an open heart and mind and I'm sure you will understand what we really mean by saying that this is not Islamic in any way

There is a direct correlation between islam and feminism tho... islam was the first religion to give women rights, to forbid people burying their children because they were female, islam also gave women the right to mehr which is money their fiancee gives to marry them. Furthermore, islam made life for women better; God made it so that it was a husband's right to make sure the wife has been fed, has money etc, but a woman's right is that the money they own, her husband cannot touch. In Islam, God made it so that forced marriages, if it be a man being forced, or a woman being forced it is forbidden! So for example, if they then had intercourse, it would be classed as r*pe and then by Islamic law the man or woman would he dealth with in accordance with the islamic law. Before anyone comments about the Islamic law being barbaric, lemme just tell you that womens rights stem from islamic law, and most countries have adopted most aspects of the islamic law. If u have any questions, please let me know (Edit:) Also, i cant believe i forgot to mention this, but islam was the reason many women back then were allowed education, the first university in the world was opened by a Muslim woman! I just want ti highlight that islam is NOT what the media portrays it to be, the media like angles which give them views and reactions. I think if one believes the media it just shows that they are completely naive, impressionable,m and says a lot abt their character; they are ignorant and dont want to listen to the truth, for example the media portrays black people to be part of gangs and criminal activity, but someone with a sense of reality, competence and a brain will be able to determine that, that is completely false.

I believe when reporting on a controversial “religious” or social group, it’s imperative that the reporter does his or her homework and asks questions that are relative to the participants’ sociopolitical location. It’s easy to say these women were brainwashed; however there’s a deeper story here. And that’s a story any country can relate to, especially considering that this whole situation is eerie because it highlights the hyper sexualization of women and the unexplained wealth of men at the top of the social structure (which is a narrative all countries are guilty of sponsoring).

The incredible lack of analysis or real questions/journalistic integrity here is really shocking. It also seems like you put the interviewer in a dangerous physical situation. What a terrible indictment of you journalistic standards and critical understanding of the subject. Allowing the interviewer to be “made up” like a cult member??

That guy Oktar, he has charisma, I give him that. His communication methods and mannerisms remind me of some TV evangelists, with the confidence and intensity and all that. He is also pretty handsome. No wonder he has managed to establish his cult. But as things go with cults, he ended up in prison on charges of fraud, blackmailing and sexual harassment. So a lot of bad stuff happened behind closed doors, which wasn't surprising. I hope the women who were abused by him and his cult are doing better these days ...

As a Muslim this is insulting to me, I just agree with him on one point Darwin’s statement is ended wrong in my opinion but the rest is just bs Islam isn’t like this never was never will.

When a belief system starts becoming cultish there are definite problems and religion is just one of the tools the leader uses. In this particular the case the problem is not Islam as many other world religions have this happen in their ranks.

My one thing is that the title leads you to believe that this is part of Islam. They kept referring to this cult as creationism multiple times, so why not call the video what it is; a creationism cult.
