Hi, Good to know you have done a lot of research. I run a battery manufacturing company in Chennai for EV & BESS for Renewable Energy. Let me tell you what I know, perhaps it may help you make a better analysis of the scenario. Most of the data you have been provided by a few American O&G Companies. The battery pack I produce and mostly what will be produced in the future will be LFP & LMFP Cell Chemistry. Which does not use Cobalt or Nickel. So we really don't need such mines any more. Lithium is much needed, but we should understand the fact that Lithium is only 3% of the cell component and we forget about the pollution done by crude oil pulled out of the ground. So if you compare both Mining of Lithium and Oil. O&G def pollutes more and continues to pollute throughout its lifetime of the ICE. As you mentioned the EV industry is still a Baby in terms of Volume of Sales (1-2%). when the production of EV reaches 10% of sales the cost of the vehicle and battery will be significantly lower. So it will be a no brainer option for consumers. Technology and range, The lithium technology available in today's market is significantly old, possibly around 25 years old. For a technology to reach your vehicle it has to be tested by time. So there is no chance for a huge change in battery tech for the next 10 years, the same technology will keep improving LFP & LMFP Cells will be the future. The existing tech can possibly give any kind of range even today the question mark is cost of the EV will go up. So when more people starts purchasing ev the price will go down and range will increase. About the Charging station and dirty energy, the industry is still a baby energy produced in the future will be clean, because of BESS Technology. battery energy storage system can store energy and gives us 24/7 Clean Renewable Energy. This in the long term will definitely produce clean energy. What I feel is lacking not enough entrepreneurs in this sector in India. China has great battery tech, but we can learn and execute if people have the will to do it. Best Wishes, Hope this may have given a different perspective.

You covered the topic creditably within a short time frame. I foresee another waste being generated like e- waste without a recycling solution / act in place. The priority for implementation should be the local mass transport in metros and two wheelers and see the reduction in imported oil bills. The emphasis on hybrid for cars etc. could to an extent reduce / balance the preburning pollution in mining mentioned. India needs to introspect it's priorities

    I am also using EV, but I think to extraction & refine fuel from earth to our vehicle has lot of process which includes again electricity, fuel for shipping and transpotation, after that also it continues, to run our vehicle. So i feel EV is best option for environment.

Hi bro. EV vehicle for environment matum solravaga nambathiga please. See, more than 85% of electricity produced from Oil, Gas, Coal and other fossil fuels. So, EV use panalum environment ku keduthal ilanu solrathu just a marketing technique. I may be biased because I'm a petroleum engineer working in Oil and Gas industry. But, EV ah replacement ah kondu varathu thaa problem. Why they can't bring it as an other option. Like in petrol station we have Petrol, Diesel & Gas. Place the EV as another option. Till now so many big companies who invested on EV just to get the tax benefit sake. They are all backing up from the investment and increased on oil and gas. So, My thought is don't tell "Im using EV because I'm environment friendly". If someone says this he is brainwashed by bunch of ads...

But think of a situation when all our energy needs are satisfied through renewable energy sources, these EVs act as a source of energy storage. Even that could power our homes. Lithium is highly renewable so it can be re mined from the dead batteries 2. Solar is only 40k per KW, we can easily install solar in our houses and offices and get free energy, the initial cost can be recovered in 4 years 3. There is a new concept of reverse charge were the EV car acts as giant inverter which can power our homes including our AC. MG Ev already has this feature 4. Lithium powered Tesla has gone for 7 lakh kms without any issue

Battery Recycling is most important, unlike conventional engines the battery is the residue for EV and not smoke. If battery is not recycled in proper way there is direct and immediate impact on health as lead & chemicals intrude water bodies & soil and makes it unusable. Hopefully government imposes strict measures for proper battery disposal and dont dump batteries into Pallikaranai Marsh land like they do it for every other waste. Batteries can kill environment way faster than normal wastes.
