The Dark Isle

There seems to be some fair amount of dispute as to the provenance of this Scottish slow air. It has been attributed to Iain McLaughlin, who played it for a BBC series. Also attributed to Roddy Mccauley, as a tune in honour of or as a lament for Ian MacKay of Glasgow. It could very well be an old air that was simply collected.
Played here on a Pilgrim Clarsach.

It's not very old. I have a letter from a musicologist from the School of Scottish Studies.. where they state quite clearly that it is 20th century in style. Also the college of piping sent a letter dated 1967, where they state it is modern. No trace of it can be found of it earlier than c 1958, and no recorded version until 1962's BBC TV series, when the title was changed for the TV series.
