    Thanks for the info! I have indeed started incorporating ACV into my hair routine. For me, it’s best to spray the apple cider vinegar mixture (50%water, 50% acv) onto my hair right before I rinse out my deep conditioner; so basically, I’m spraying the vinegar on top of my hair conditioner, and then immediately rinsing it out. Once rinsed, my hair is much less tangled than with conditioner alone. Moreover, my hair then seems to respond better to the final products in my twist-out routine = leave-in, light moisturizer (no sheabutter heavy products for me), and then my gel.

    but how is your hair able to absorb the leave in, creams, etc if you've already closed the cuticle with ACV?

  • @antoinettechevalier2453

    @@maverickbull1909 In my experience, the ACV doesn’t close the cuticle completely; actually, I think it’s impossible to have the hair cuticle completely shut tight. Consider earlier videos by this KZreadr where she showed photos (from science journals) of “black hair” (i.e., 3c - 4c hair) vs Asian hair: the Asian hair cuticle was flat relatively speaking (“white hair” was more medium porosity- in the middle of black & Asian). Anyway … Asian folks can & do still use conditioners, leave-ins etc that are effective on their hair, even though the cuticle is tight. The acv is a way to retain growth (because *much* less tangles); the leave-in & styling products used afterwards are still absorbed because the cuticle is never completely closed - just a bit flatter, a bit smoother - and the softness it imparts facilitates the manipulation necessary to achieve stretched styles (twist-outs, braid-outs) & frizz-free wash-n-gos.

    @@maverickbull1909 It's definitely worth a try! Like Antoinette explained, the cuticles will not close completely especially for us with high porosity hair. Lately I've been experimenting, I applied a nettle tea rinse under my moisturizing condtioner which I mixed with some blackstrap molasses (to target a couple of gray hairs I noticed recently 😮) then sat under a heat cap for an hour... low and behold... the results were noticeable straight away, my hair felt much stronger and looked shiner than ever. I put it down to the protein in the nettle tea and in the BSM... I'll try the ACV but not under or before the conditioner, I'll use it how Antoinette did. I won't use in conjunction with proteins to be on the safe side... no two wash days are the same, it all depends on how my hair feels/looks.

    I have tried apple cider vinegar and I didn’t continue it. I think you have to know the he science behind it and I don’t so I leave it alone. After 14 years of struggling with high porosity hair I have decided to go back to my upbringing in Jamaica. When I was living there I only had cold water for bathing and washing hair. I started trying and that in the USA. Big difference. I start shampooing with warm water, then rinse it out the lukewarm water.After conditioning I rinse with cold water. My hair stopped breaking unless I abuse or neglect,easily detangled , less frizzier and hold moisture better without using lots of products.

    I think I'm not going to put acid on my hair because I don't know what I'm doing. Knowing how to dilute it is so important. I don't know if I would use a tablespoon to a cup or 4 oz to a cup etc so I better leave it alone and just use it to cook with. I'm afraid it could eat my hair out in the long run. That's just me. Thank you for sharing what you know about putting Apple cider vinegar on a head of hair.

    When I first started using acv it was great! My dandruff was getting better because it was getting to a point where it was spreading onto my forehead and you could see my dry scalp/flakes. I've been using acv for about 3-4 months. I dilute it with water in a little spray bottle. I put it all over my scalp and leave it for over 20 mins then shampoo/condition as normal. After watching this video I believe I am using way too much acv not enough water and drying out my scalp more. I hope this helps me as I was disappointed thinking the acv wasn't working for me anymore. Thank you for the well detailed video! (:

    I really appreciate these lessons on our hair and the best practices for it. I have one question. You mentioned that you don’t put leave-ins in your hair and you do the ACV over your deep conditioner. Would it be okay for those who do use leave-ins to do the ACV spritz over their leave-ins while in the shower instead of doing it over their deep conditioners? I ask because it seems like deep conditioning is your last step to impart moisture into your hair on wash day. For many others, the leave-in is the last step for them to impart moisture. Would it be acceptable and non damaging if the ACV is applied then?

  • @naturalnadinee

    Hey girl thank you! And absolutely I don’t apply leave in because after I DC I apply a rinse out conditioner I rinse out majority and leave in a little bit, the little bit of conditioner left in my hair is kinda of my leave in (this is because formulation wise there isn’t any difference between most rinse out and leave ins bar consistency) so it’s not like I skip that extra step of moisture I just prefer to not use 100 products but absolutely if you have your favourite leave ins use them!xxx

    Haha can’t go wrong with abit of science! & yes there’s no harm in using that mixture and yea it can help lift sebum off your strands And to answer that last part I believe people consider aloe Vera “alkaline” because it’s an anti inflammatory which means it neutralises the effects of an acidic environment. Ok so I tried a 4:1 ACV mix (1 part ACV 4 water) today. I have type 4b hair, short afro. I misted it on my hair with my conditioner and then put a cap on for about 5 min. Smelled atrocious. Rinsed it out. My hair didn't feel any different than without ACV, just smelly. I used my LCO after to see what would happen. Normally, when i apply leave in... it hardly absorbs and my hair is just white with product. It was harder than normal after the ACV rinse. This is one reason I think I do, even as a black person, have low porosity. Simply because things don't absorb into it lol... So, Idk. After a month of research and trying different products, I've concluded that type 4 hair is annoying, confusing, and too much for meeee. I guess we'll see if there's a difference in the length of moisture retention the next few days due to the ACV sealing the cuticle. My friend told me my hair looked "dull" afterwards lol

  • @naturalnadinee

    @naturalnadinee

    Heyy, it’s why I made this video that you should only start trying to use ACV once you have moisture trained your hair otherwise the effects will be the exact opposite. If your leave in conditioner is leaving a white cast Is 1 of 2 reasons. 1. Product build up, which tends to happen of the hair is not cleansed consistently do you shampoo your hair thoroughly and regularly ? 2. you are using the wrong leave in for your hair. (Low porosity hair still absorbs leave ins without a white cast) if a product leaves a white cast on my hair which many of them do I stop using it, it’s one of the reasons I stopped using leave ins all together I can only cherry pick a few that work for me. Keep pushing with the journey once you start to do what’s works for you it will come naturally! It’s a lot of trial and error at the start not everything works for everyone xx

    Sounds like you have medium porosity hair and the ACV closed it too much so your leave in products wasn't absorbing like usual. The opposite effect of ACV would be open cuticles and therefore your leave in products would absorb easily.

    I have started 🙂 just twice so far. It's eh so far, trying to get used to the smell. I'll need to try putting it on on top of conditioner. But I'm going to stick with it, my hair has started to feel "smoother"
