    What disturbs me about the world is not only how many people are quick to anger and hatred but also relish in it. From politics to religion, serious to mundane, people seem to take pleasure in demeaning one another. What they forget is that their perceived enemies are members of their species. While there are times we must harden our hearts and get our hands dirty such as killing an assailant to save another if it's the only means, it should be the last thing we want. And yet so many choose to be hateful. For example, as much as I don't like the Islam religion for it's negative text, I am disturbed by all the animosity Muslims receive even if they are genuinely innocent. While the religion deserves criticism, I find it cruel to be so hateful. Hatred hardly helps anyway as it just convinces the enemy that their enemy is dangerous.

    @@alexs5744 How about be neither? Most individuals are kind-hearted (not to mention, very few are cannibalistic as you describe). What I prefer is to be kind by default and only harden my heart when the situation calls for it. Plus, living a life of callousness is such an unpleasant life. All that hatred would take its toll on the mind and brain both physically and mentally.

    im a pre-op transgender ive lived not a life without compassion and especially recently, mother has 5 years left to live my friends have left me to fiend on my own. after hearing this i still disbelieve in the compassion of the world. this is only one video online and it only has 2610 views. where as i can look up a video of a jumping and i guarantee it will have more views. the sad fact the world of today does not care about compassion? so why fight for it, there is no point in fighting a loosing battle, idk if i will be here or not when the comments come flooding in on this comment nor do i care what people say i have much respect for the dalai lama and all of the teachings he offers but its not enough any more take care every one

    The closest i can relate to this topic is the feeling i get when i play games that give you a choice you know (good,bad, neutral ) and i find myself almost always inclined to do the good choice because the good choice is the only one with a for sure reward ... i accept the quest because by doing so i get the ex and money. I don't threaten or kill the guy because theirs no reward in that. Now i think that's more bad gameplay design that i can find even in games like Dragon Age which has wonderful story telling aspect to it. But I also find when both opinion are given a equal reward like in Kotor when you can choose to do the quest and earn a reward or just mind trick the guy to give you all his money and get experience that i find myself drawn to those choices. Now i ask you does that make me a bad person? Is the desire to always choose the choice that will benefit me whether its helping others or just helping myself make me inherently a bad person who lacks true compassion ?

  • @proudtobeme1ashkente

    @proudtobeme1ashkente

    As long as all this happens in a game and stays in your head, then there's no harm in this behaviour. Only your actions and choices in real life can be judged and called "bad" or "good". If you were the same in real life, then to me, you'd be a "bad" person, yes.

    just because it is a game does not excuse the actions you take..by your own description you know your instincts are not good ones..unless you lack the ability to determine right from wrong, you know this about yourself....so, apparently you are here to get permission & support from others of like mind. However, This does not mean you must always stay this way..anyone can change..if they truly want to. It's not what you say, it's what you do that matters.

  • @Dartinin

    Wow this is an old comment. My mindset is more on the lines these days that if a person shows me basic human respect that I tend to do the same to them but if they refrain from showing me that respect that I do not need to show respect to them. A human is a human who treats me like a human everything else is garbage. I know that will never make me a saint but I'm not out for a holy divine revelation from god or Buddha. I'm just here to live my life and leave the world with a little more then I took from it. In games i tend to lean towards the mess with the AI route because the AI in games tend to ether not show you the consideration for what you do for them or just out right diminish the important of what they ask of you. So an AI insulting me or asking something of me that would insult my character is enough of a reason for me to act aggressive in a mostly non physically harmful way back. That is not the peaceful way and will gain me no brownie points with any higher ups in the old holy lands but Its how I choose to live my life. Have A good day friend and I hope you find peace in this world and any other.

    I understand what he is saying about choosing life sentences over death sentences because it is less angry and more compassionate, but controlling death rates is just as necessary as compassion. If no one died, we would exhaust our resources, run out of space, and we would all die. Death is a part of life. If we choose to keep people who cannot function in society alive, we take resources away from people who can function in society. That is not a perspective, but a fact of physical existence.

    Actually, many Buddhists believe Jesus to have been an Arahant (an enlightened person), or a Bodhisattva (one who defers his own enlightenment to benefit others). If you read the Gospel of Thomas, you will notice its content is very similar to Zen Buddhist teachings. This isn't very well known because Thomas is not included among the four selected Gospels in the Bible. Anyway, you can totally follow both Jesus and the Buddha! No need to choose one or the other.

    But we must not devolve into hatred as it only invigorates the cycle of hatred. We treat them badly and dehumanize them, it will only give them more reasons to hate us. Throughout my life on the internet, people being hateful did not solve problems. What we must do for these so called npcs is to treat them humanely and discuss with them. We may be blunt but we shouldn't devolve into hatred.
