Alterra's Cyclops at least has a known and CERTIFIED crush depth, that if stringently followed, will NOT cause any damage to the submarine. One might scoff at the fact that it's base crush depth is 900 meters, upgradeable to 1700 meters, is not capable of visiting the Titanic wreckage (3800 to 3900 meters), but keep in mind that the crush depth sensors and hull monitoring equipment of Alterra's Cyclops is working PERFECTLY as advertised. Even if one descends below its rated crush depth, Alterra's Cyclops hull is will steadily fail in a controlled manner (Taking damage in a predictable progressive manner), buying time for the crew to take emergency measures, either by ascending back up to a safe depth for repair, or, to evacuate from the submarine - keep in mind the hatches CAN be opened from the INSIDE for egress.

Alterra's Cyclops ACTUALLY does what is advertised to do! The depth sensors and Crush Depth safety warnings are 100% reliable and accurate, unlike the OceanGate's "Real Time Hull Monitoring system". Furthermore, the Alterra Corporation Cyclops, when crush depth is exceeded, will take hull damage in a controlled manner buying a little time for the crew to initiate emergency procedures to either ascend quickly and safely or to at least evacuate in good order - keep in mind the hatches CAN be opened from INSIDE the Alterra Cyclops, something which cannot be done in Oceangate's submersibles.

I would like to add that you can add stack two wall lockers vertically on the walls of the storage room, effectively greatly increasing storage capacity. A similar method of doing so would be placing floor lockers(black) perpendicular to the external hull walls in the room after the cockpit upstairs, allowing a large amount of large storage to be easily accessed and built with little issue. The Cyclops is an awesome sub, and I can't wait to see them expand upon it and bigger ones(hopefully) in the future
@moony555
Жыл бұрын
Well if you look into it some more, it becomes somewhat clear that its technically possible to avoid using a building base. Since you can use the solar charger on the seamoth, its possible to just toss it outside for a bit and use it to charge power cells. The only thing you'd need a base for is maybe water filtration machines, a recharging station for the cyclops, and the outdoor growbeds for the harder to obtain plant based resources😅 Once mods are brought in, it can become even easier to just ditch using a stationary base, but it really just depends on playstyle
@Mousse9
Жыл бұрын
@@moony555I’ve played Subnautica a lot, and totally missed the fact you can recharge Power Cells with the Seamoth, and so recharge the Cyclops as well. Probably because the only times I actually use the Cyclops is when I go deeper, without sunlight. I always make 2 bases. One near the southwest edge of the Safe Shallows, bordering both the Grassy Plateaus (for room for the vehicles to move, dock, etc. And the Kelp Forest (for Creepvine stuff, Stalkers etc. The second base I put in a place that’s very deep, literally and figuratively, in the game. I transport the materials for that new base in my Cyclops. It’s a basebuilder sub for me.
@moony555
Жыл бұрын
@@Mousse9 the seamoth has a module called the Seamoth Solar Charger. It works pretty well, and keeps the seamoth charged as long as its near the surface (works the same as a solar panel). So you can technically drop it occasionally, and afk or whatever to recharge your cyclops. I personally usually just keep 1 or two bases, mainly for the exterior growbeds. Exterior growbeds I mainly use to grow deep shrooms, creepvine sacs(you can grow the creepvine that grows those by harvesting the sac off a creepvine then planting it), blood oil, and gel sacks. Your method works well generally speaking though. Nowadays the thermal generator upgrade is actually harder since they moved the kyanite even deeper into the lava zone, where it used to be easily accessed right in the dropdown area past the Tree. I would also recommend building the wall lockers OVER the default lockers in the lower section. The basic lockers are just too small to care about. So you can have a stupid amount of storage that way. Or you can get a mod like FCStudios Alterrahub Suite, which adds a ton of good stuff including a Digital Storage (wont bother to explain, search it up yourself >.

Honestly, the cyclops is kind of underrated. If you search on the internet, some people will say it's not really all that good. (Spoiler warning, click or tap read more) I find it weird that people think that. Because it's actually the best combo for the lost river and inactive lava zone, just get a cyclops and a prawn suit in it's vehicle bay, a modification station, and a ton of lockers. Add some plants like lantern fruit, bulbo trees, marblemelon, or potatos. It turns into a perfect deep sea mobile base once you have the last depth module for the prawn suit and cyclops.

Yeah its quite strange, I wanted to compare it with other iconic gaming submarines but then I realised there actually aren't that many of them 😂 I think the Cyclops is the perfect complement to the faster and nimbler Seamoth, allowing for greater protection and greater diving, while also allowing you to carry your scouting capability with you! Cheers again for watching Frog!

I do like the Cyclops, but I feel like it has a decent amount of wasted space, at least for how I use it. I don't use the corridor under the engine, I don't really put anything in the engine room, I only put the modification station in the room where you can access the prawn suit or seamoth (used to put chargers there but there isn't really any point now), and I don't like too much clutter in the front room, so there's only that small square space to have fun with.

@@Milardikan Haha no problem! I'll try my best to keep making content you enjoy! Most impotently thank YOU for watching it!
Very informative video! I found that the cyclops charging part interesting, especially it gives much needed capacity to go on longer voyages. However, they should've developed a solar charge module for upgrade to provide a optimal solution for earlier game exploration. (I don't know how many times i have to carry extra power cells in case of running out of power lol). Thermo-reactor module is nice but by then when player goes to lava zones (or have the necessity to make the module), they usually cumulated enough resources that worrying about charging isn't a priority anymore. What do you think?

It's interesting you say that Hang, in earlier builds of the game you could actually attach solar panels to the hull (the ones you use on your base) and those could be used to charge the power cells! I always found myself running out of power, but it in the early days I never bothered to install any modules apart the depth increase so it was my own stupid fault 😂 Once I installed the sonar upgrade I was kinda addicted to playing with it im not going to lie 😂 Thanks for watching Hang!

To be completely honest I rarely used the Cyclops due to how bad its power situation was. As soon as I craft the Cyclops in any saves I make I typically don't go out right away with it so I go on board to turn the lights off and leave for a few minutes to come back in a bit to see that 20-30+ units of power is already gone which I just don't understand. I don't have the engine running, no lights on, the cyclops is completely idle, no lava larvae at all(since I usually never go idle in a place where they exist), silent running is off, I have nothing built on it, nothing in the docking module, etc and I'm just like: "HOW?!?" whenever I see how much power it loses by itself which pretty much forces me to rip all of the power cells out whenever I'm not going to be using the Cyclops at all. Also I still don't know if this works like this at all, but I fill up all of my upgrade slots with power efficiency modules, but I just can't tell if the effect stacks at all or not due to just how bad its power is like.

even in the upper part of the world you can put the thermal reactor in prawn suit, drop the prawn suit on top of a geothermal vent, those things with the bubbles coming out of them, and periodically swap the powercells out of the prawn suit and back into the cyclops for a budget cyclops thermal reactor. Finding inventive solutions like that is what made me love the game.

@@domhopper7402 That's really weird. Last Subnautica run I did I parked the Cyclops in the underwater dock at the quarantine enforcement platform with I think 98% battery remaining, Turned the engine off but left all the lights on and then went to the lava castle with the Prawn, Came back via the teleporter to use the Cyclops Fabricator, And then went back to the lava zone to get the hatching enzymes recipe then returned again to fabricate the cure, And then finally after going back again and getting cured, Finally returned to the Cyclops to take it out of the dock and even after all of that the Cyclops still had over 90% battery remaining (I think it was even 97%) So I don't know what is wrong with your Cyclops, maybe it was bugged when you last played. (Have you tried testing it on the recent "living large" update?) The subnautica wiki mentions that none of the lights effect your power consumption or creature detection, So you might as well always leave them on. It also mentions the Cyclops efficiency module doesn't stack. Surprisingly it also mentions that if you leave silent running on, That it will continually drain power even if the engine is turned off (So maybe that was your problem?) 😅 I always turned silent running off and the engine off when leaving just in case, Good to know I wasn't just being Paranoid lol.

@@mydogbuddy07 Nope- I never had anything turned on in my Cyclops. Like, it could've been a bug since in the Living Large update it mentions that there were like 1,500 issues (I think that was how many it said) fixed in the original game across all platforms so maybe it was one of those issues, but I haven't tried it yet.
