The CUSTOMER made the RIGHT choice | HVAC | OEM carrier condenser motor and fan blade replacement

Found a seized up condenser fan motor that on a previous maintenance visit recommended replacement at the time which was declined. Customer opted for the OEM carrier condenser fan motor. Also while at replace the fan blade as well as the capacitor, system should live to see a few more years of effectiveness.

I just did one on my 2020 Carrier. It was 1/12 HP nobody local had it in So. Fl. Cost me $104 in next day shipping. We have two units and the main unit actually kept the house cool and with bedroom door open I probably could have waited the 4 days with free shipping but I didn't. The night before at 2am I was hot took my meter outside got eaten by skeeters and replaced the bad OEM cap with an Amrad. Next night same but it was making a hell of a racket. Checked the cap all good so I ordered the fan motor. Motor turned freely too. Not sure what took which out. While I had the top off I cleaned the coil with my Viper Venom pack and coil gun. I'm just a DYI'er but I learn from you guys. I also have your dads Jack of All Sprays. That stuff is great plus no smell. The Amrads don't fit the OEM cap bracket. Supco makes these really cool magnetic brackets. I put them on both units. Also while I was in there I replaced the contactor cause why not. I have 2 Sureswitches in the parts bin as well. When I clean the other coil I am going to put the Sureswitch on that one.

Had a real the same thing done to one of my Carrier units except the new fan made it super loud and the tech left with it like that. He was like "oh I'm supposed to have some rubber sound dampners in the car" and just took off with it like that. A few bricks on the center of the fan reduced the noise but I'll have to get someone proper out like you next time.

I could see why they'd want the "real" motor, but why change the fan blade too? I'm sure Carrier wants way too much for a new one. Ted Cook has a great video of a really quick and easy way to get the old one off; you might check it out 😁

Sure did 👍 anytime the unit is out of warranty, they’ve replaced a blower out of warranty and this condenser motor, repairs add up quick to the price of a new unit. Also 2 weeks ago their compressor took a shit! They probably should have replaced it 🤷‍♂️

Not a dig on this dude, but folks need to learn to do these easy repairs on their own. The money AC guys charge for this type of work is crazy. I know first hand, I did appliance repair for a few years.

That’s all good and well for sure, I’ve seen to often where some one tries a “simple” repair like this and ends up causing more issues, and much higher invoice then if they’d had called someone in general.
