I have seen The Cure well over 20 times since 1987. They are never really bad and sometimes the are absolutely fantastic, but best live band ever? I don't think so. Although Trilogy Show in Berlin is easily in my top 5 shows of all time and I have been to a lot of concerts in my life. I have tickets for November 22 and I really hope that Covid won't fuck that up again.

Russell Loomis Love this. I have a very familiar scene in my memory.

In some ways, people forget Robert's actually a hell of a guitar player. I think it tends to get overlooked that he does have legit chops when he gets the chance to explore the fretboard. He doesn't shred, but doesn't need to. He has a flourish & character of his own.

The fact that A Forest is the first song selected for this documentary tells me everything about this project. I’d assume if a poll was taken that this song would likely top out amongst longtime Cure fans. I was lucky enough to finally experience them live in 2008, they did a 3 hour set including a heavy list of classics, including of course a fantastic rendition A Forest. Thank you for assembling this tribute!

My mom listened to The Cure in the 80s when I was a kid. Hearing their music at a young age left a huge impression on me. She absolutely loves this band, as do I.

I like to think that one of those clips was from Sept 15, 1989 when I saw them in Dallas at The Starplex during The Prayer Tour. 3:29 seemed to be about that period.

Its crazy how every single documentary and non-documentary seems to start with "The Forest". Its almost as if "The Forest" is The Cure's "hello" around the world. Like "Endsong" is The Cure's "goodbye". I was a GenX kid that fell in love with Robert when I was 16 in highschool (not romantically...well, maybe a teen crush but i was in love with his soul and music) It is the age where you start breaking away from what everyone else is listening to, and you go out to find your own muse and music. Robert was mine for both. The super hero that said all the things I couldnt find words for and told us gloomy teens that we were okay. It was okay to cry over a broken heart, or to mourn a loss greater than life. It was okay to escape, or to think about the day you would. It was all okay to be YOU. But besides that, he had this ability to take you to other worlds with his music. A beautiful, cozy cavern...a deep green and foggy forest, a cliff over an ocean side, the dark nightmares of our childhood, and even a little piece of heaven. He had the ability to make us feel - but then reward that with a giant embrace of imaginative safety, when we felt scared or alone. I have NEVER missed a Cure concert since becoming a diehard fan in 1991 at 16 years old, in 2 different states. And I will be seeing him again, this summer in the mile high city. I will never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever stop loving Robert and thanking him for walking me through the HARDEST times of my life, through his music. Im 47 now, will be 48 when I see him this summer, again. Ive loved The Cure for 31 years, almost 32... And I will keep going to concerts and listening to him sing until the day he stops, which I hope and pray is not for at least another 32 years in the future. ❤❤❤ And after that, I will still be playing his music. I will never not love The Cure. ❤

This is a brilliant documentary. I really like the way it morphs through the different clips and how the sound is blended. Better than anything I have on DVD. Many thanks to the creator.

I’ve been a fan since 1982. I was MOD in high school. The Cure will always be who musically raised me to be who I am.

The Cure got me through my teenage years. They literally were my soundtrack. It bordered on obsession but they got me through it. Thank you Robert!

Been a Cure fan since their first album Boys Don't Cry in the 70s and never EVER stopped listening to their amazing music. Saw them in 2019, a bucket list moment. So much to say about this incredulous band. Remember many a night listening to Faith, Seventeen Seconds, Disintegration, Head On A Door, Pornography, God it goes on. Even in my teens I really 'got' this band for some reason and their musical approach. I became obsessed by their music. There's so much misunderstanding about this band and I'm sure The Cure are sick to death with much of it. Their canon is a LOT more varied than the casual observer realises. They have some of the most pure, gorgeous pop songs ever done by anybody and then there's really deep songs, most of which are centred around love (which always amuses me when people think they're a depressive slash my wrists band which they are TOTALLY not). At least 90% of their songs are love songs, yes they might be deep, but they're really beautiful. Then there's Smith's guitar playing and vocal which are just stellar (you know in the first 5secs it's a Cure song, so amazing to own your sound like that), then there's Gallup's incredible bass playing which is so important to the Cure sound. Then there's the glacial keyboard washes, tight, thoughtful drumming and I could go on. It's a nearly 45 year love affair with this band, so good I dug them as much as I did. Thanks boys, you're totally amazing.

They are essentially the same album - Boys Don't Cry is the re-release of Three Imaginary Boys for the American market. The track listing is different, and it was a later release, yes, but if you live(d) in the US, BDC is The Cure's first album.

I didn't make it very far beyond "The Head On The Door" before The Cure and I parted ways. But the records that came before that are *still* stamped on my soul, and always will be. The first four notes of "Faith" *still* give me the chills, and I am immediately transported back to my youth. Even just mentioning it here will probably guarantee that I end up listening to it straight after. When someone has touched your soul, you never forget them.

The cure is one of those bands that instinctually tapped into a very primal side of the human mind and what we respond to when it comes to sound.

I have seen this band so many times... the best was my 18th birthday at Glastonbury in 87... storms all day, the Cure came on stage and the sun came out, then the steam off the crowd was magical in the light show and made Forest even better. The earlier quicker versions of The Forest are my favorite The best band ever. Life long fan. The memories from the concerts, CD’s and the bass. 👍

This just popped up in my feed. I was hesitant to click, I’ve seen to many “unofficial “ documentaries that were train wrecks. Not only is this not one, it is an amazingly well crafted documentary official or not. So well done. Pacing, content, music, insight. This documentary took me back decades back when I watched and listened to virtually anything Cure released. I still love them dearly. Thank you for this amazing compilation of deliciousness!

What's interesting is that the Cure was making this music back in the 70's & 80s; talk about being ahead of the curve! In the 80's and 90's it was mostly college radio stations playing their music & now they are EVERYWHERE. I even heard them recently play the Cure at the grocery store i go to, dare i say that they have become hugely popular? What's great and commendable is the fact that they NEVER SOLD OUT. Nothing but RESPECT for the Cure.

The mixing & editing of [A Forest] at the beginning was astonishing to say the least. Pure Genius.

They have been my favorite band since I first saw the movie "Lost Angels" in 1989. That's where I first heard "Fascination Street" and fell in love with their sound. A lot of things in my life have changed over the 31 years since. I listen to a lot, I mean a lot of music. I always have something playing, and not just old music. I am still always checking out new stuff. With all that said, they are hands down still the best band I have ever heard. I know they are not for everyone, (hence why we have so much variety in music) but for me...they have yet to be unseated at "The Top".

This is amazing! I can't wait to watch the rest. It has invigorated me with a renewed sense of awe and excitement about The Cure, I feel like I'm 12 again discovering them for the first time. And I love the last quote you include from Robert here, 'given the choice between real life and this I'd rather take real life'... I think that perfectly describes the Cure. No condescension of the audience through conceited rockstar personas, just genuine human beings experiencing human experiences and making beautiful music expressing those sentiments in a way that so many people can relate to and connect with. Truly the purest band out there, delivering distilled emotion packaged in the most dreamy, visceral and sentimental music to ever bless this earth.

I probably started really listening to the Cure when I was 12 in 1989, a guy at school got me into them, at the same time I was listening to Faith no More, Suicidal Tendencies, Violent Femmes and late 80’s rap. I was then introduced to the 2tone movement and put everything into that, however, The Cure stayed with me, my musical tastes have changed so much over the years, metal, punk, hip hop, reggae, dancehall and most recently afrobeat. Two band have been with me the entire time, The Specials and The Cure, these guys are like gods to me.

That mix of A Forest was fantastic! Bravo ! 🙌 I only ever saw the original line up of the Cure and loved seeing the clips from that time but also loved seeing the progression to that giant stadium sound. Never imagined at the time what they would become. Had a few tears watching that. Stellar work. Thankyou

Damn these guys were my favourite band when I was a teen in the 1990s and Robert Smith was such an iconic and iconoclastic inspiration. They produced songs of such beauty, heartbreak, uplift and power. Inimitable and ingenious!

This is great stuff! The Cure for me provided something I could identify with as a teenager in the mid-80s. A lot of this footage I have never before seen, and now 35 years later watching this compilation I can still relate to the enigmatic Robert Smith and the music they created over all these years. In one of the interviews he makes clear that they are making music because they enjoy it and he’s not that fussed about selling millions of records, cool attitude that clearly didn’t impeded their success! Robert’s style clearly captivated many, many more along the way.

Wow the editing in this video series is freaking insane. I just watched A Forest and just holy crap excellent editing and going thru time in new old etc just beautiful. Thank you 💜 I was fortunate to see them in Irvine, CA where they decided to have two shows in one night. It was in a gym on the Irvine campus and still had that just small enough feeling where you're so close to the band you can see everything it was so amazing.

When I seen the part when Robert mentions he does not foresee the Cure selling over 3 million records: I looked up how many copies The Disintegration record sold, and it has sold over 3 million worldwide, what a great great record....

Iam in love with the Cure since 1986 . I was 12 years old . 2020 During these pandemic I l put The Cure on my tv 📺 the 40 year of the Cure show 2018 and I dance 💃🏻 with my husband as if we were there. The Cure makes me feel good . They are a comfort to me . Magic voice , magic band ...Amazing they got older and better . Thanks a lot for these documentary! Very well done .

Thanks a lot for this gem, really! I get both melancholic and grateful, happy and sad, but most of all comfortable because of the love I feel for the music. I am a fan of the Cure, but also of many many others. There’s however something about Robert Smith that I truly relate to, which is the need to touch the dark side of the mind while mostly being a joyful and balanced guy in the perception of others. It’s a bit similar to Bowie’s state of mind too, but perhaps just a common one for all of us that grew up in the rollercoaster of the 80’s.

THis is really an amazing video. This is better than some profesional documentaries about the cure I have seen. It does an excellent job of giving someone a really good insight into the band and of Robert as well. I like how videos af songs are mixed together into one so you can see the changes throughout. I haven't watched the entire thing yet but just from skipping around I think it put together realy well. I am going to sit down and watch it all the way through tonight.

Okay, mind blown... They were a # piece band at first and eventhough I listened to those first albums over and over plus read the back of the albums I STILL didn't realize this. They sounded so big to me!! Shows what kind of impression they made...I love these guys still!!

Thank you for this wonderful documentary of The Cure. Love this band since high school in the 80's, they are one hell of a great live concert, and a bunch of polite young men (when I saw them. We were all younger than lol) again brilliant loved it all.

Today, I had quickly covered a version of 10:15 Saturday Night after stumbling upon an adequate backing-track. The act of doing so re-awoke my love and interest in The Cure. So far, this unofficial "fan" documentary has been an excellent collection of "found" clips edited together to tell the story in the way someone like me enjoys seeing it presented! I intend to watch parts 2, 3, 4, and etc.! Kudos! I am subscribed!

2020 lockdown fodder. As a teenager back in the '80s I really didn't get the cure. In '87 a girlfriend of mine subliminally brought me round to their sonic endeavors. Love their output, style, and candor. Will watch pt 2 next week. Thank you, extremely insightful and entertaining.

Why did this just pop now in my recommandations? This is just awesome, as an old Cure fan that gave me chills to feel this time travel. It gives me back so much great souvenirs, when I watched and rewatched all the things I could record on VHS. Some of the pictures here, I lived in front of my tv (that show with the dresses for Boys don't cry was to make fun of a french band and still hilarious, I remember the next day at school, everyone spoke about it). Thank you, so much, just brilliant! Edit: je viens de percuter que je parle comme un débile en anglais alors que tu es français. Pour avoir vécu les années "Enfants du Rock", je pense qu'on doit avoir dans les mêmes âges parce-que tout ça me touche énormément.

A Forest is pretty great here, just like my favorite rendition featured in The Cure in Orange.

I think this is actually a professional video - and a very professional one at that. Speaking as someone who dutifully bought such VHS releases as the interminably long and unedited, The Cure Play Out, I like to think this is recognition that those really should have been done better, so that this is something of a compensatory thank you coupled with a bit of an apology. Much of the footage is from those official tapes, but now much more sympathetically edited to hold your attention. Above all they are really quite funny, as well as being insightful and informative. I think it has been recognised that much of the old footage isn't of professional quality, but has been edited together in a way that makes it of little importance. I've so far watched parts 1 and 2 on my TV and have been thoroughly entertained by it. Even Hot, Hot Hot, very low down on the list of my favourite Cure tracks, suddenly makes far more sense. It's a bit like The Cure's low-res equivalent of The Beatles Anthology, totally free of charge.

Peter Sharpe much appreciated, thank you. What's funny is the "long and unedited" official releases were probably the only reason it works - you'll see halfway through part 3 it starts to get a choppy when dealing with highly edited material of the 90s. I sort of hope that even if a real documentary doesn't come to fruition, that they just release more long and unedited footage in some form or another.

The Cure has been my favorite band since about '86 when my big brother brought home the cassette Standing on the Beach Bear With No Face, you haver done an exceptional job of putting together all this rare footage. I am so excited to watch all four videos.

I've been searching for a relevant documentary about The Cure for ages. Thank you so much for posting this excellent film😊❤. I hope it stays up for a long time as KZread do have a habit of removing stuff for whatever reason. 🕵

Thank you! Yes hopefully they won't pull it for a while - if so I'll try to figure out a way around. Seems the content that gets things blocked at the moment is music videos which would make sense if they were available anywhere else.
