This game was the perfect encapsulation of what it is to be an Oilers fan. It's one of the reasons it's so hard to ever truly believe in them because no matter how well they play for a stretch of time, you know that they can come out and just completely fall apart at a moments notice.

I wanted Knob to pull Skinner after that 3rd goal. I don't know that that would have won the game, but I do know Skinner, for all his excellent stretch's, just lets in to many soft goals all to often. Pickard played by far the best goaltending of the playoffs on this team, and "Skinner is our guy" is a great recipe for failure. "My Guy", is whoever is actually getting the job done, and Pickard looked 10x better in his one start then Skinner has in 14? games. Losing games when a goalie change was well warranted can cost a series. Stinky beans! 🌰

@@markbeaulieu8004 Debatable, but even if so, one soft goal is 1 to many soft goals. The team was playing horribly in front of him. Skinner was playing just good, when just good isn't good enough. A Goalie pull can have the effect of waking a whole team up. And since Pickard has looked just excellent, there was nothing to lose, and everything to gain from the change. But maybe I'm wrong ya.)

Nurse is not getting it done. Every other core guy making decent amount of cap space is playing acceptable or better. If the team fails to move past Dallas, I'm putting a lot of the blame on Darnell for not living up to his billing. You can call that unfair, but I beg to differ. He needs to start coming even reasonably close to pulling his own weight, and it needs to start next game or play him in very limited minutes on the 3rd pairing and hope we can at least mitigate his incompetence.

Game 4 is the series ~ Dallas is the driver of these two teams. Full 60 minutes with a game plan ~ allowing Edmonton to shoot their wad early and then bringing down the hammer ~ 3rd game in a row ... Even tied 3-3 Dallas was in control. It's remarkable how unprepared and scattered Edmonton can look in a Stanley Cup playoff game. Its the same pattern.... How can Edmonton start the 2nd period so flat without anticipating a Stars rush?? NO PLANNING?? Nurse -12. Under the same duress the Stars make fewer unforced errors. Dallas manages the game beautifully. Edmonton is the victim of the Stars superior game management. Edmonton with a lead become an aimless team ... it's like a man with too much free time.... GET BUSY!

Dallas being so cohesive makes Oilers look lost and out of sync. Their team moves together, the problem with the Oilers is the inconsistent and unreliable team. Oilers are just outmatched, they are still a strong team but in the playoffs small differences can make all the difference. Goaltending and defence aren't even comparable. Planning on the Oilers side appears non existent, even from the coach Knoblauch who seems to be trying different combinations of players and hoping for the best. After blowing their lead, Oilers play like they just want it over with. It looks like Dallas has been studying the Oilers and honing in on their weaknesses. If Oilers are inconsistent, out of sync team, not studying their opponent, unmotivated, wasting energy due to overconfidence... they deserve to lose. Sorry.

Four preventable goals. 1-puck needed a little more juice, even if the pass misses, at least it exits. 2&3- tie up the nearest frikkin man and/or stick. Seems they're thinking so much about zone duties that they don't know when to abandon them and improvise to smother the immediate, closest danger. 4-Nurse went from standing in an area of little danger (as in Gm1 tying goal) to his knee, when he should have been a few feet over and in position to harass the carrier (the pass target had a defender at least partially on him). And more detailed harping: on 2nd goal, 5 defenders were standing around, none of them taking a body out. On 3rd, big Vin shoulda take the wide open man at the side of the gaping net, leaving the shooter to the back checker and his teammate wearing big pads. On 4th, Nurse's choices were to 1) go down on a knee and maybe block a pass to a Star who had a defender already partially on him, or 2) stay on two feet and maybe prevent a good pass, but also probably prevent a dangerous shot on net. Being down on a knee, he is mobile like a starfish with an arm raised. An integral aspect of playing zone is to always be aware and ready to switch duties, as the situation calls for. Yes, maybe they were tired at points, credit to Dallas. But if they could have taken the body more around the net, Gm3 would be a 2-0 win. The area near their own blue paint should be defended with ferocity, but this shortage of physicality around it was apparent in a troubling way in Gm1, when Kulak failed to tackle Seguin on Dallas' opening goal of the series. Not defending their fort in close with nastiness will get them knocked out real soon. I'm a little disgusted.

    1) This zone D is so frustrating. You can't be so rigid that you leave open guys just a few feet away from you. Be physical in front of the net! 2) Going up the boards to clear isn't working. Use that high flip to get rid of it. Who cares about icing, at the very least, it resets things and you have a chance to win a faceoff. 3) This team is delusional if they think they are a great defensive team. They need to keep attacking, always look to score the next goal. 4) Darnell Nurse is the lowest iq hockey player I've ever seen. His mission to block everything is so destructive to this team. Bring in Broberg. 5) Whatever is being said in the 1st intermission needs to change. 6) Stop forcing the goalie pull. Maybe wait for possession first. 7) Dallas knows exactly what the Oilers are trying to do, especially on the pp. Change things up. That pass to draisaitl isn't working.

  • @cjlb49
    @cjlb49Ай бұрын

This one was so frustrating and disappointing. You guys covered a lot of what I've been thinking. 1) Why did Desharnais even try to go up the boards on that third goal? Nurse was wide open for a pass across. 2) The Oilers seemed defeated after that third goal. No one was skating with any intensity (except maybe Brown). 3) I have loved almost everything about Foegele's play since they traded for him, except his inability to score. However, he's been non-existent in these playoffs. 4) I was glad McLeod was taken out. Now, give Perry the Skinner treatment. Put him back in now that he's sat out a couple games. This won't ever happen, but I'd also like to see Gagner play at least one playoff game in an Oiler uniform. 5) It wasn't just Nurse who played apprehensively, I saw a number of defensemen play that way last night. Although, Nurse's play on that 4th goal was egregious. 6) Dallas has an uncanny ability to break 1 or 2 guys out of the zone even before they have the puck. It really stretches the Oilers out. The Oilers were pretty good at containing that until halfway into the second game. 7) Dallas also is good at sucking the centreman into the corner on the cycle, leaving a guy wide open in the slot. They don't get a ton of shots, but when they do, they're grade A. 8) Skinner wasn't horrible, but like Kurt, I thought his rebound control was a bit weak. He left a big saucy rebound in the slot on that second goal instead of deflecting the puck into the corner off his blocker. Although Ekholm and Nuge did no favors by going to the ground on the zone entry. 9) No Time-out?!? Bad goalie pulls? No one in the lane to stop the long empty net goals? Just bad decision making there. 10) Nurse isn't the only one that hasn't been hitting for a while. I don't think his lack of physicality has anything to do with injuries. I think that's just how this team plays now. 11) McDavid seems to be going again, but Draisaitl and Hyman seem to be hiding now 12) I'm so frustrated, I have about 20 more things. But I've gone on too long already.

A shame as had promise and seems to try hard and try to lead etc. Various guys are being exposed: the 3 Dman, GM decisions on Campbell, Neal, not picking Johnston or Stankoven when Dallas did.... paying mcLeod when he never goes to the net or finishes checks.. too bad Kane is off & Drais broken finger.. Edmonton fell flat after the first and it started when they changed their style late in the 1st. Instead of continuing to attack they began to sit back and protect the 2 goal lead and they began dumping the puck out. As soon as I saw that happening with 2 min left in the 1st I said "oh no not this again". For next game I would put in Pickard, and come on Knob coach your team to continue to play the high energy strong offensive zone play - this sit on the lead thing just does not work!!! We had our chance with Hintz out, but now that he's back and looking like he is we have no chance unless Dallas lets us. Lets face it, Dallas only need to play one solid period of hockey to beat us and they may do just that to save themselves for the finals. That's how I'd approach it. We are done

They just can't seem to clear the puck out of the zone when they need to, always trying for that short little pass, a little too passie at times instead of shoot. Try Carrick with the offensive zone faceoff, then let him go to the net. And, whoever's behind those green skin tight coverings, please stop wearing them here, didn't help Vancouver win.

I think the Green Tights guys were sent there by Boston Pizza. 'Dart Guy' was there with them but his face was painted the same way he has it in the BP ads. Same with the girl that was in between them. They were all in the Boston Pizza commercials. Pretty sure it was a promotional thing.

I don't think the Stars will implode like we do so you better play a full 60 while limiting your mistakes. The Oilers have 9 players this post season whose +/- is on the negative side led by Nurse at -12. The Stars have 3 players with a negative, Pavelski and Smith at -2, and Faksa at -1.

As these games become even tighter, the Oilers coaching staff must send a message to their under performing players by either limiting their playing time (subject to their playing performance) or giving them some time off where they could join GM Holland and view the game from the upper press box.

This team lacks killer instinct! They need to stay on the gas! It's hard for the opposition to score when they are playing defense. stop trying to lock it down with the lead!

Grow up Oilers. You’re repeating all the same mistakes of the past five years. Broberg will not fix this. Commit to a full 60 minutes at max intensity. Alternate Pickard and Skinner. Neither can handle the FT role. Send Perry out to do the unthinkable. And cover Roberson ffs.

Oilers played a good 1st …… after that the give a shit meter was not there. 3 goals in in about 3m that’s ugly. I hope that is the last we see of that but I’m concerned this isn’t Vancouver. Another timeout not used, use them you can’t take them with you. Yup it’s the story of the oilers Dr jackle Mr Hyde.

Stu shat the bed hard. The team didnt play very well in front of him but Skinner basically handed Robertson that hatty on a platter. Also, Nurse is just not that smart of a player. I know its rude and all but it is the truth. He always makes the wrong decision and costs his team, and is pretty much the reason why the Oilers will miss out on some cups during the McDrai era. You can get 2 smart defensemen with what Nurse makes.

Yo the Oilers should not have pulled the goalie, down by more than 1 alright, but down by one with the Oilers roster, shouldn’t have pulled skinner. I’m not kicking them while down, but further forward don’t do it down by a goal.

Since Gm1, with Kulak not tackling Seguin to try and prevent Dallas's first goal of the series, it has baffled me why the Oilers are not viciously pushing out bodies around their net. It's playoffs dammit.

No offense Bruce & Kurt but 53 minutes talking about a loss is long winded, I love listening to you guys but for a win sure 40 minutes no worries, for a loss it would be great if it was 20-25 minutes, its a real struggle to listen too for an hour long leaving me very bitter.
