No, they need to invent more ways to entertain baby birds. They grow bored easily. Putting them in a meatgrinder, microwave or boiling water makes them lively and happy! And don't forget to put sticks in their tiny little asses - to make them look like polite snacks!

Parents ignore the chick outside the nest. They simply can't realize it's one of their children

The baby bird is smart enough to push the other babies out, but the mother birds aren't smart enough to even nudge their babies back in the nest when they are on the edge of it / just barely outside of it. I swear, some of these bird species deserve to go extinct.

@@catinthehat5140 exactly. Baby bird is programmed to push anything moving out of its nest. Therefore it can have more room to eat and grow. It’s purely instinct. Remember it’s blind when born so it’s moving off vibration and feeling. “I felt something move, now I feel an object; time to do my back shovel and push it until it’s gone.

Cockoo bird is acting on instinct. It's not thinking "oh let me get rid of these nest mates" anything that touches its back it pushes out. If you put a rock next to its back, it will push it out of the nest..but the goal is still the same, be the only thing in that nest.

it looks like the mama bird is actually getting irritated by the cuckoo not because its purging the nest but because its being such a pest while doing so. Ive never seen a single reaction to a cuckoo nest purging but this looks like it might be a reaction out of constant failure to purge . hopefully birds start catching on so they can mount better defenses against parasitic creatures

Я согласна , есть такие матери , которые делают вид , что не видят этого и не заступаются за слабых детей . Видела среди людей таких . 😮

So sad. This is something that I may never understand. I have seen many videos where the bird parents will fight to the death to protect their babies from other birds sometimes 3 their size. A while ago I watched a video where a baby bird got pushed out of the nest by their momma bird. I really dont think the Mama bird did it on purpose. The baby was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. The baby had a huge struggle but eventually was able make it back into the nest. The funny thing was that the momma bird saw the baby squirming around just outside the nest but refused to help. Although at one point in the video, the little baby outside of the nest pushed out a big poop which momma bird immediately grabbed lol. So, as much as I would like to, I doubt if I will ever understand Mother Nature.

it looked like the 2 remaining chicks teamed up on the parasite and put both their weight on him so he couldnt eject either of them... you can see it struggling and its still trying to push them out but it can't when it's exhausted and has 2 chicks putting both their weight on him.. if thats what they were actually doing thats really smart

They don’t understand what they should do in this situation. It’s not like they don’t care, they just don’t realize that the baby are in risk in this situation. You can see that when the second chick that was pushed out falls off far away from the nest, she has an immediate reaction, because that she understands as the death of her little one.

Looked like 3 to start. Upon trying to get 2 out , it faught its way beack in to get pushed out again. Mom had husted snuggled #2 under her and just watched as #2 was pushed all the way out the 2nd time.. nature is so sad at times.

Mother bird knows which chicks is weak and cant survive, she only choose those who can lay eggs better.
