To the detractors; this production took a softer tone. Removing the hysteria and focusing on the injustices of the piece. The line ‘are the accusers always holy now?’, shoot right through every audience member. And after all, the girls are suppose to be children. Not adults.

The reason they using Adults, because of the strict rules for children actors. The Play would not be allowed to have the same children actors work 6 days a week.with 2 Matinées. So you have look pass they are adults playing children. I have not seen the play yet, but I had to accept adults playing children in To Kill a Mockingbird.
The children could not be expected to be as polished as adult actors, but Rachelle Diedericks was a superbly immature Mary Warren. It's a shame that the publicity focus has been on the witchcraft, which has not been over sensationalised in this impressive production.
Appreciate the different approach - not quite my thing but i respect that they didn't make the obvious choices. (stan the old vic's production for clear skin lmao)
God, I don’t know if it’s because I have never seen it being played on stage, but to me the 1996 movie with Winona Ryder and Daniel Day-Lewis remains the best to this day. The actors didn’t deliver spontainety or naturality at all, it just looks like they’re (over)acting. I loved Erin on The Crown though

Stage acting is typically like that as it needs to be visible from the cheap seats further away. Movie stuff can be a lot more understated because the camera can capture things that even a front row seat might not be able to spot in a theatre. Both are great, but serve different purposes.

@@phoebeizzarddavey126 I agree. Stage and movie acting are two very different methods. I've just booked my ticket to watch this performance and am looking forward to it.

Oh, and I forgot to add that Arthur Miller wrote the screen adaptation for the 1996 movie.

Oh dear.
I've seen a few NT productions lately and they were a bit of disappointment, but this one looks good - strong acting and no ego trips from the director.
I saw the Old Vic’s production in person. Incredibly powerful. Not a fan of this one’s flippant edge.
