The Crucial Role of Fathers: Aggression, Rough-and-Tumble Play, & Independence w/ Erica Komisar

Why are fathers so important in a child's development?
How do fathers parent and discipline differently than mothers?
How do fathers help children develop physically and socially through rough-and-tumble play?
Why are fathers important for helping the child slowly separate from the mother?
Why do fathers regulate aggression and excitement, while mothers regulate fear and distress?

Thank you for your response. Yes, perhaps, but would they give this narrative space in public discourse that doesn’t divulge into a tit for tat or victimization language?

I’m optimistic :) I do see an increasing awareness of the importance of fathers in public discourse. With that said, there’s always a potential for any discourse to devolve into a “blame game”, whether it’s over twitter between strangers or in the family between husband and wife. Learning to communicate without resorting to victimization language is hard, but I think that if we each practice that on an individual level, then we’ll also begin to see a shift in the public arena.

having at least two caretakers for a child is certainly beneficial, but the idea that one of them needs to be a man because a women supposedly cannot roughplay or be assertive is beyond ridiculous

Are women receptive to this information?

I certainly hope so 😊 I think that the majority of women probably intuitively understand this.
