She was also raised to honour duty above all. She had a kingdom to stabilize and remember she was so young and the ones who influenced her decisions the most were those who would rather she not get so emotional

Same! People in the replies saying “well, she had the weight of a nation on her and she was all duty” but dude, Bertie was literally also the monarch?? And had to see the country through WWII but managed to seem like a great dad. So...??

@@strawberriesandcandy when Bertie took the throne, Elizabeth was 10; when she did, her kids were toddlers. Not to mention her dad was the king, mom, although now the queen consort, was still able to be a mom and gave her hubby the space to relax with his family. In her case, mommy was the one being a monarch, in a time when daddies were not the ones in charge of raising the kids, and Phillip was not necessarily pampering father material to begin with.

My dear dad died 3 years ago and until I was 5 we were the best. Then he had a burn out, his brother and sister-in-law died in a car crash when I was 8 and he was never the same again. I am now 49 and it had such in impact on my life. This is so comforting and made me cry. Beautiful. I miss my dad even though I have feared him half my life ...

I gave my grandpa a hug about an hour before he passed. Christmas day after the family party. Every grandchild by blood or heart gave him a hug. I still cherrish that moment... Sadly 2 of his 3 daughters did not have the same luck. my aunt and the last daughter was in a hurry. My mom and other aunt were very dissapointed of course.

He was looking to her to give him the confidence to sing. Once he hit his stride, she reminded him to turn around and face the crowd. She gave him the confidence and strength to face the masses.

I think Margaret was a tortured but beautiful soul...all she wanted was to just be herself....as for Vanessa Kirby, wow.....this was the most tender and touching scene in the whole series.

🐄 💩. Princess Margaret was wild when King George VI was alive. She slept with one of his staff (a huge scandal in the period) and other stuff. She was spoilt and wild. Only illness and later death slowed her down.

Came here for same reason. They juxtapose a big historic event with something very intimate like sisterly love / friendship, and contrast royal life with something very relatable like ageing and death. Such a beautiful episode, one of the best in the series imo, and a beautiful ending.

Even the staff applauded. This man was so beloved. He was truly born to be King.

I like this scene but my favourite is when the king dies, I didn’t want him to die but it’s just the bit when the royal standard is lowered I get goosebumps. And the crown must win letter from Queen Mary got me too.

This duet gutted me when they played it during the end credits of the Margaret episode on the final season. I bawled. Back together in heaven. 😭

I watch this clip again after seeing the ending of S6E8. Very emotional.

I truly can’t explain it, but there is something about this scene that gives me warmth, goosebumps and captivates me. I especially loved when she pointed and he looked around. Such a beautiful scene.

Absolutely. Olivia Colman and HBC are great, but Claire Foy and Vanessa Kirby brought something very unique to their roles, something none of the others can quite replicate

Jared Harris is the man. Such marvelous acting in only two episodes. Vanessa is also superb, great talent.

Albert/George absolutely ADORED his daughters. Such a sweet man.

1:15 The camera work was fantastic at showing the love between father and daughter. She had to remind her father of the other people in the room.

I wish they kept the scene where he's watching Elizabeth on TV. It's such a moving scene to see him in tears and to hear the sound of bagpipes in the distance as it moves on to the morning of his death. Great use of foreshadow.

Also, I think that in that moment, he’s so proud of her, and maybe he’s remembering the day of her birth, when he first held her in his arms, just a tiny little baby girl...and now his baby girl is becoming a woman all in front of his eyes. Time flies by when you are a parent, even if you are a royal...he died with his love for his kids remaining intact.

I came back to this scene after watching Season 6 and started crying!!! I recognized the voice of Venessa Kirby and it was so sad. All those memories of growing up watching the Crown coming to an end. The end of a beautiful Era and now with the Queen gone, it's like we all went through this journey together. I knew they would have to throw in Venessa in there somewhere and the ending was perfect. Ive always loved Princess Margaret. She was my favorite!!!😭😭👑

The first time you watch this scene, you cry. From the second viewing on, you bawl and whimper. It's beautiful. Well done.

Watching the season again and this whole episode is breathtaking and done so well. When they wake up to find him passed away - Margaret standing amidst this flurry of movement and you can see the moment of her realization - great storytelling

I strongly identify with Margaret here. I was also 21 when my dad died. And this series came along shortly after, at just the right time to help me process. This scene is so lovely and really shows the bond between father and daughter ❤️❤️

Amazing! I watched The Crown. I was truly Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered. What a beautiful, beautiful song. The series did justice to the song.

I sobbed as this song reminds me my mother who died when I was 18 yrs old.

Brilliant acting from Vanessa Kirby showing her emotion at seeing her father perform in-front of others, knowing how painfully inhibited he was. Poor man it was awful for his personality to have that responsibility of being King suddenly thrust upon him.

This song -- as they sing it -- has been in my head for days as I began the series all over again. I do love this actor, loved him in Mad Men too. I just looked him up in IMDB and learned he's the son of the famous actor Richard Harris. interesting!

Honestly, I was so excited when I heard that they started singing a very familiar jazz classic that I almost instantly recognized from their singing.

One of the many great father and daughter moments from the Crown. Can't wait for Dec 8!!

this was the scene that completely broke my heart and enthranced me to The Crown. to this day i still cry like a baby when i watch this. it just resonates so depply within me, i feel every drop of love between them.

What's great about this: 1. The TV viewers don't know the context at first. It's just her and him singing, it's intimate and about them and their appreciation/caring. Then, when she points out to him the larger audience, she's pointing it out to us too. And he is surprised himself by their presence, as was I. He is bewildered and loving his daughter. She sees his love, appreciation, and frailty. She takes it all in, happiness and in the moment and then sad. 2. It captures the main theme of joys of family intimacy/communication and their giant lack of privacy. They live their lives in public. 3. His sadness, confusion and awkwardness (holding the music sheet between his hands) communicates that burden; he was happiest when he had forgotten the audience and was simply singing and laughing with his funny, vibrant charming daughter. 4. These issues are highlighted by the direction, which has shots moving from intimate to contextual and back. 5. The actors convey so much nuance. 6. The music/lyrics fit so well.

Pure magic. An especially lovely touch is the servants out in the hallway applauding their beloved king.
