It's the worst feeling when looking back at an embarrassing moment and realizing what you could've done or said to save it.

There is a big relief off my chest and mind knowing I wasn't the only one who didn't do homework period like that because of "reasons we won't go into" or just not enjoy, or not being able to focus on school. I now know I'm not alone and the way he said everything I just related so much. School isn't for everyone.

I never did homework and never cared about it. Barely passed high school with a D-, failed 80% of classes my first two years of community college, then I found a subject I actually liked and aced every class plus loved doing the work.

Same, but turns out it was not laziness so much as getting overwhelmed and that made me tired and depressed so I pretended not to care, I have ADHD (and pretty bad it turns out) and didn't really figure out how to "do school" until I was almost out. Managed to get my 1.0ish GPA up to a 2.2 GPA after taking a 5th year of high school. I went to college and did way better there. High school was hard for me, but college (community college and then transferring to university after getting a 3.4 in community college) was a lot easier. Now I'm learning to adult and it's going about as well as early high school lol.

I related to Dan's story a lot. The parts where he just didnt care about school. For me.. I wasn't trying to be rebellious, just something didn't click with me. I wanted my free time when I got home and knew I would do poorly with the homework anyways. I would ask people if I could copy their homework. After graduating.. I learned SO much more about life and the important things from different jobs and relationships. I don't regret it.

@@orkiso1 I can understand where you are coming from. I guess I did the bare minimum more so than nothing. I went to a private school so I had a lot of poor grades. It was disheartening when I actually would try in Algebra and Chemistry (etc) and would still get poor grades. So the last few years I stopped caring as much. Its always better if a student can try, but I don't tend to look down on people that dont put in a lot of effort because I understand why.

as someone who dropped out in 10th grade, it makes me genuinely happy that teachers and admins are finally making it so kids don't flunk. i had an insane amount of trauma from 9th-10th grade and just could NOT focus on school & if my teachers would have reached out i may have stayed. school just really isn't for everyone!

Same!! I was very sick my senior year with an eating disorder among a ton of other mental illnesses etc and none of my teachers gave a fuck. They just assumed I was stupid and lazy lmao. Ended up dropping out. No regrets.

AB's funeral story knocked me dead, idk why 🤣 short but sweet.

Man….. I was at a cremation, and someone started singing a very emotional song, everybody’s crying, and something about her voice just made me need to laugh so bad. I spent 3 minutes - eternity - staring into nothing, avoiding eye contact with anyone and just trying to breathe the urge away. That song just kept on going and I felt so horrible 😅.

Can totally relate to Dan's story about trouble with school. I graduated by the skin of my teeth thanks to "Saturday School" where you could make up for days you'd skipped by going in for like 5 hours on a Saturday. And I skipped a lot of days. I was a good student up till 11th grade. Then I just kinda...did bad.

I have a similar story to Love’s. In middle school me and a partner were in front of the whole class giving a speech that we wrote about the Holocaust. Idk what happened but I got really nervous and just started laughing and I could NOT stop. I even turned around and faced the board to try to calm down and I just couldn’t, I had to go sit down. It was so horrible 😩

Dan's summer school story is pretty much a perfect summary of my highschool experience.

I did basically the same as what Dan did. My freshmen and sophomore year I skipped, I flunked my classes, and I’d hide my report card or always have an excuse why a grade was incorrect. My junior and senior year it all clicked and I had to step on the gas with a full schedule as a senior to graduate. I’m glad I did to this day.

AB and Zacks stories had me in stitched omfg. I was laughing so hard. Your guys' cringe stories are the best man omg.

I know Ethan says he doesn’t read many comments but if Dan or anyone might I just want to say I’ve been watching since I was in a freshman in highschool every time I see a new video from you guys it feels like home to me honestly Ethan (and the crew and family)is my favorite comfort creator(s)♥️

As a former band kid (co 13) who played multiple instruments (first flute then french horn/tuba) I’m dying at his attack on clarinet players and the drummers. I also dated drummers so I know for a fact he’s 100% right. They have a rep everywhere.

Resonated so hard with Dan's story! I think we're about the same age, too, which makes it hit harder somehow. My anxiety issues and being bullied.. all of that just totally eclipsed my love for learning and I just retreated into myself. I never did homework, I'd walk home all the time. I did the bare minimum to graduate because I felt that pressure of not wanting to be the person that had to repeat a year or something. I was really lucky in that my school was really small/shitty and I'm naturally pretty smart so I could skate by quite well. The homework was what nearly did me in, though. Honestly, shout out to the whole crew! I parasocially adore you all, and I love these candid clips.

Great segment. This had me reminiscing about all my high school cringe .moments haha

I did so incredibly poorly in middle school and high school solely due to the fact that I hated school and would skip class and not do my homework but I am very smart and love learning so I would no joke get A's on every exam and I loved reading and writing so I always did essays I just hated worksheets and bs assignments like it seemed so pointless to me... Anyways I finessed deals with my teachers every quarter and would do all the homework I missed during the week before grades were due and that's how I passed. Senior year they tried to say I couldn't graduate bc technically I had too many absences but I was able to get doctor's notes and stuff to cover that bc I had an eating disorder in high school so my mom got my therapist to write a letter to my school. 6 years later and I am currently in my last year of law school. The moral of the story, high school should not define you. I think we put way too much pressure on teenagers to make "life-changing" decisions. I barely knew who I was at 15, 16, 17, etc. And I really didn't discover myself or even get comfortable with my own body and existence until my 20s. And yes I was lucky enough to be born with privilege and opportunity which is the only reason no one gave up on me and I was given 2nd, 3rd, and 4th chances. I understand not everyone has that and that's why I think the changes in schools with not flunking people is so important. Some people are dealing with their own demons and some people are just late bloomers. So many people told me I was going to be a failure but really I just need the right environment to thrive in and to give me purpose. Law school is that for me and I feel a deep sense of passion and commitment to the legal career I am building. And it seems like production/H3 is that for Dan. We need to allow kids the opportunity to find what gives them purpose and then we will see them thriving and becoming great contributors to society.
