Everybody asks for an original property, not more sequels or preexisting IP. When new original stories aren’t financially successful because nobody paid for a ticket, the big companies will just come out with more sequels and preexisting IP

Blaming the people, who actually went to see the movie, for not liking it and assuming why is weird. This movie had some great elements but the story, script, characters, world building & logic needed a lot of work for it to be a great movie. It also wasn't terrible and more likely failed because it wasn't marketed well enough. It's a lot better movie than Avatar 2 (or any other new Disney rubbish, post Endgame) and the CG looks way, way better too IMO, so I feel that it could have done better if people actually knew about it. If only the story had been refined for a while longer and the characters had... well... some character, it could have been great. Unfortunately they were mostly either empty or cartoons.

Look. I get it. I get the argument and I agree. And I bought a ticket. But the fact of the matter is that we can’t always linchpin films because of what they represent as compensation for their actual quality. The Creatir is a very half baked film with beautiful visuals that is poorly serviced by cookie cutter characters and a very vague and shallow world with cheap and often shaky allegories to the real world, especially those in east Asia.

The audience didnt fail this movie, the movie failed itself by not doing anything interesting with the core concepts and characters. At some points it feels like it was written with an AI, mixing and matching plot points and characters from better films without figuring out why they worked in those original films. Its a hodge podge of basic sci-fi tropes mixed with a wolf & cub story that we have seen dozens of times at this point, all of this could be excused if the cinematography or characters were more interesting and not extremely basic, this is in a lot of ways babies first sci-fi movie. The movie does look great, and a lot better than movies with 2-3x it´s budget, that is commendable, and i hope the director keeps making stuff like this while adding in more originality, at least its not Zac Snyders Rebel Moon.

This is ridiculous, the audience owes the filmmaker nothing; in fact i’d say it’s just the opposite, the filmmaker owes the audience. the audience is giving them time that it will never get back and in turn deserves to get a valuable experience out of it. audiences should be as judicious with their time as they want. if the writing in a movie is mediocre the audience has no obligation to watch it simply because the idea is original. every movie has to prove itself to its audience if it wishes to succeed, and The Creator, through its poor writing, failed at this.

I was able to predict the two big twists / reveals that happen close to the end within the first 20 mins. John David Washington also has the charisma and screen presence of a rock. If this movie was more of an 8 out of 10 or higher it'd probably have made a bigger buzz with audiences, but the fact that its a 6.5 (maaaaaybe 7 at best) is why it probably didn't do as well at the box office. I finally saw it a few days ago and felt like it was overhyped to me because of all the KZread videos conveying the same message as this one.

Reason why this movie failed is because it was super predictable. There's never any chance that you felt that anybody was really worth feeling for. Every fight scene you knew what was going to happen. And when they tried to be suspenseful it didn't have enough build up to it. I think the pacing was for someone who has ADHD kind of like how TikTok is so famous because people can't think for more than 5 seconds at a time. You never live with anybody in this movie long enough to get to know them. All the characters are just another mashup of the same movie. The idea was great but the writing was horrible. Even the dialogue was clunky at best. For me it was not clever enough also way too predictable just like every other movie trope it's been done to death you can see everything happening before it happens and then when it does like yep I knew that was going to happen. I had trouble staying in it because it never had any real gravitas to it. But that's just for me. Although the visuals were great and the idea was a good one, it just was never going to live up to its hype.

Just recently saw this film on Hulu it was awesome. Story was easy to understand, solid world building, likeable protagonist, great child actor, great visually and a soundtrack. Personally though the movie copies alot from other known IP films which kinda gives it an identity crisis. Additionally it didn't help that the first trailer of the film spoiled 80% of the plot and it was released during one of the most competitive movie seasons ever. Reminds me when I first saw Ex Machina which I thought was a fantastic film yet barely anyone gave the film the time of day. I went opening weekend and it was just me and like 6 other people smh

I've always said that good storytelling is the key to good movies. The Creator failed not because it is original, but because it failed to tell its story. It can be argued that there is nothing new under the sun, so the storyteller/filmmaker's job is to tell an old familiar story in a way that it recaptures the audience's sense of wonder. Star Wars, Harry Potter, Mad Max, and to some extent superhero films are some examples of existing tales and legends craftily retold. Unfortunately, most of those examples eventually fell victim to lazy storytelling.

Both have an oppressed group fighting a totalitarian government that has built a mass destruction weapon to oppress them even more, and the main characters need to find the McGuffin that is needed to destroy the weapon. And also, both movies have their protagonists dying in an explosion after kissing their loved ones

When you were explaining the plot of the film I thought you were going to cut away and say "But enough about The Matrix". Maybe it's just me, but science fiction stories live and die on its concept. The character work filters down from that. So, despite this film having all the pieces and some novel world building, I'm still left with a feeling of... eh, I've seen this before. It didn't make me feel or experience anything that The Matrix or The Animatrix or Terminator 2 or Children of Men or The Last of Us hasn't made me feel before.

Wrong, this movie is overrated. This movie was just plagiarism. Theres a filmento video about how it just took the plots of logan, last samurai, last of us and maybe some other movie and just pasted them together sloppy and put a sci fi skin on it. When you watch this movie nothing feels new, but everything looks pretty. Half way through this movie you know how its gonna end, because you’ve already watched the other movies that this plot has taken from. the only thing is you dont realize right away why you recognize this plot as if you’ve already seen it, but its because you have seen it already in logan, last samurai, etc. this is the most clever way of being unoriginal. Also whats with the lazy scifi tropes without reasoning, like “dude has a robot arm… because” and the robot arm does nothing to advance the plot or relevant in general. Why even spend money to animate that, just a sci fi skin on plagiarism lol. The audience didnt fail this movie, the audience subconsciously knows when theyre watching recycled material. Don’t insult the audiences intelligence. That fact that a low budget japanese godzilla movie with a very original story blew American audiences away proves this. Good try tho

Havent seen the film but I can see the mirroring of AI and children. We create both with expectations of what they become, but those expectations are built on nothing other than our singular wants, rather than accepting that the things we make can form an existence of their own wether we like it or not. At the other end is the idea of the "product of the environment" where the things we make are only the sources we feed them. Both AI and children become what they are based on the life and experiences we give them, and that directly affects the choices and actions they make.

And it ends up being a kid/woman/etc? With an actor who isn’t known for his charisma, unlike his father? By a director with nice ideas but absolutely no nose for commercial appeal (and spare me the Rogue One rhetoric…that film was a narromess)? Ok a couple of things, 1) Are you going to pay for everyone's tickets to go out and see the films you think they should be watching? In Canada for example it costs around 40-60$ per person to go out to the movies. Glad for you if you have the cash to do that every week. But for most people, thats not realistic. 2) So you get to tell everyone what movie they should be watching? Why is it wrong if a person genuinely like franchise movies or superhero movies? Just because people like those movies and not what would get a thumbs up from Cahiers Du Cinema doesn't make them failures or less than. 3) Hollywood filmmaking first and foremost is a business. They are out to make a profit so that they can continue to make films. They aren't making movies because they want to make the next Citizen Kane. Whether or not your agree with that mindset, they are risking hundreds of millions of dollars. And as with any business they will make the products they think will generate profits. 4) Both COVID and the strikes (which I fully support) decimated the industry in a lot of ways. Don't expect indie movies to be the dominant movies for a long long time as the studios recover.

A rebuttal to that rebutall could be that the hollywood franchise machine is flawed but apparently we still dont regret seeing bad sequels and reboots enough to stop going. One friend said the movie lost him at around 2/3 point. My complaint is mostly about the movie trying too hard to sell a very forced romance, the cyber Buddhism being too goofy at times, and the concept behind Alfi being somewhat nonsensical. I still gave the movie a solid 8/10 for its stunning visuals and overall touching story.

I would be on board with the basis of this video if it wasn't for the ending of the film. It's like they asked them to edit out 20 minutes so they just condensed an hour long ending into 15 minutes. There are plot points that are outright dropped or underused. Especially when it comes to a certain data drive that they carry into the Final Act. That data drive and the useless final scene that it allows just should have been dropped completely if it's all you're going to use it for.

I think part of the hatred or crazy criticism this film is receiving is out of guilt from people who complain that "Hollywood is out of ideas" and then don't support movies that try something even mildly original. Well, what do you want? Sure, The Creator borrows a lot of tropes from other films. But it also, absolutely, tries to do something original. And it bombed. So what do you expect when the next generic sequel comes along? Hollywood won't make movies for free. And entertainment is one of the most consumer-dependent industries in existence. We have nobody to blame but ourselves for generic, unoriginal films, and we don't like it.

I almost always look up critic/audience scores before watching a movie, it won't keep me from watching it and a lot of the time I do disagree, but the score wasn't terrible and I decided I'd check it out tonight. I'd never heard of this movie but it sounded like something I'd enjoy and I really loved it, I cried when Maya died and Even though I knew she wasn't dead, when Alphie "died" because I was so worried about how they were gonna get out. I don't even wanna talk about the ending! I like watching movies and then binging a bunch of reactions/reviews (I actually do that with movies, books and music). When I was searching this one, all the videos seemed to be negative! I've watched a few but I just disagree, I think it was BRILLIANT! I've always been against ai and still probably always will be but this movie really made me think and feel and took me on an emotional adventure, I think people aren't giving it the credit it deserves, I only found out about it tonight because it's on Hulu, why is no one talking about this?!

I strongly recommend you to see it (it may be difficult to find outside of France, and that's a huge bummer, but internet is a wide place 😊). Mars Express is a hundred times deeper about the question of a civilization that has adopted AI. Watching this movie made me realise how much The Creator lacked imagination and depth. And yet I still like it but clearly Mars Express is a far better take on the subject. I am not saying that out of patriotism, I feel compelled to mention. Quite the opposite, I'm generally not a big fan of french cinema. But here the crew working on this film did a truly amazing job. Okay, two things that pisses me off about this topic. One there is very few original films and I'm not talking about like recent ones based off of TV shows and toy lines. Most films that you think are original films and you like as films originated as books and plays. Nearly all of them look up almost every single Oscar winning movie from the '70s and before and the majority of them are either adoptions of stage plays or were based on books. Sick and tired of everyone just going "Oh adaption is wrong" because that's been most of film history. In fact, the first very first films ever were adaptions of stage plays and books. Second, I'm sick and tired of people asking for "originality". Originality died after the first hundred plus years of religion. The audience does not care if something's original or not and they care if something is good. And right now the majority of the audiences not even the critics the audiences. Don't think rebel moon is good. Not terrible but it's not good great and especially not the best. You know what people really think is really good Godzilla minus one a reimagining and reboot of the first Godzilla movie from back in the 50s. Because the difference between Godzilla minus 1 and rebel Moon is fucking quality. When the audience starts finally demanding quality, that's what we should be celebrating. Fuck this "auteur" shit. Fuck this Disney Xerox shit.

This is why I recommended The Creator to everyone before it even premiered. It had very interesting, creative and compelling statements to make about Artificial Intelligence that made me question why this did not sell as many tickets as I thought it would, unless I forgot it was competing against a bigger movie at the same time. Saw X and Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie were nowhere near Top 10 films of the year bestsellers, but I guess they sold way better to different audiences who liked Saw or Paw Patrol, leaving little room for the middle ground of people who would give The Creator a chance. The Creator had a lot to recommend to other viewers, including the director and two of the writers of Rogue One, and the trailers were done really well, yet it was hard for anyone to drum up any real hype for it. Audiences who want original and new film properties to exist, apparently did not want a movie like The Creator. Even my video talking about The Creator only has 78 views to this day. 😢So why did only a vocal minority of people bother to watch The Creator? I thought Gareth Edwards and Chris Weitz were more popular than this after Rogue One. December 24, 2023, 8:40pm
