The Creation of India and Pakistan: Every Day

Ойын-сауық

After struggling to maintain peace in the region, India and Pakistan were given independence in August of 1947. However, the hundreds of princely states proved to be a challenge for the young nations as it took years to bring them under their control.

Can you tell me where I can get detailed information on integration of states? Wikipedia and history books like Bipin Chandra only deal with large states like Hyderabad, Junagadh, Travancore and do not talk about the rest of them.

Ollie, I've noticed your recent attention to the subcontinent, and I just want to express my sincere appreciation for your work. It is difficult to systematically present information on regions of the world which have not been efficiently and widely integrated into occidental education, and your work publicizes and streamlines the heinously overlooked history of the Indian realms, and does so beautifully and accessibly. For that I want to thank you. I look forward to the complete History of South Asia and to the continuation of the Animated History series. Keep up the good work!

India also realized that the agreement didn't mention Siachen . Pakistan was trying to take over the Siachen glacier and sooner or later they will capture it. Now, here comes a shocking twist Pakistan has already given heavy orders to European companies for equipment for fighting in very high altitude regions. This made it clear that Pakistan has started capturing the Siachen glacier. India didn't had such equipment to fight in high-altitude regions but we couldn't wait for equipment or else they would have captured whole Siachen glacier. The the problem was that they already captured many major points which made it more difficult. Despite the fact that India didn't had equipment we were sucessful in capturing the many points and So India used the equipment that Pakistan had. After this the operation meghdoot got a huge boost and soon almost the entire Siachen Galcier was captured. Siachen was now under India's control. All major passes and points were now under India side.

It is mind blowing to think about how the dominions of India and Pakistan gradually took over the princely states. For India, Vallabhbhai Patel did it single-handedly. And while Indians may not like it, immoral steps were taken in the process.(accession of Hyderabad) But as much as I dislike that,I am willing to bear it's moral weight and the somewhat oppressive history root of the origin of the state for we have avoided the balkanised South Asia.

  • @ritikshaw5868

    6 жыл бұрын

The Northern part of the Kashmir province or more precisely Ladakh, was largely inaccessible from Indian side during those times in winter and it is a difficult terrain to traverse even today. Most of the borders there were unmarked. During 1962, the Chinese on the pretext of the fact that they didn't consider the British Radcliffe Line as the official border between the two states moved its soldiers inside Indian territory and started construction work there. Eventually when the Indians came, shots were exchanged which from being a light skirmish led to an all out war. The Indian side, having poor infrastructure on its side couldn't push back the Chinese and later when ceasefire was declared both sides held on to their positions and the area remains disputed till this date. Hope this clears some doubts.
