"I can't be arsed migrating things every 5 minutes" - I feel you! This is why I started using an A5 size traveler's notebook cover, because now I keep one insert for the stuff I know I'll need over and over again, and others for the daily stuff. This way I can change the daily log insert once it's finished, and still keep stuff I don't care to keep migrating in place. I do love the Midori MD paper and I'll fight you to the death saying it's better than the Leuchturm! 😛 I'm not exactly a notebook snob per se but I do dislike Moleskine for their rubbish paper - even Extra Fine fountain pens bleed through! My preference in order: Midori, Tomoe River, Clairefontaine, Leuchturm.

Midori does take a pencil and typewriter ink very nicely! And I know what you mean about ink going through Moleskine paper - one of the reasons I use a pencil (mainly). Thanks for your preferences: reviews coming soon! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. 🙏

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who does this! I've also inserted a few grid pages into the front (replacing the first bound bit of pages) so I can bullet journal at the front and longhand journal after. Love it! If we spend so much on then, we may as well make the work perfectly for us!

90/100*Endless notebook because its tomoe river. 92/100*Midori md notebook, cool minimalistic design japanese paper and not expensive. 98/100*Canson180 sketchbook- personally my favourite its intended for artists so it can even hold watercoulour, and it opens flat, though its thicker paper like 90-100 gsm Very nice build quality. 85/100*Talens sketchbook- many sizes available, kinda similar to canson paper, cheaper, kinda yellow pages. Great build quality. 80/100*Zieler mix media sketchbook., - similar thicker paper slightly more textured kinda sloppy build quality but its cheaper the paper is enjoyable and the design and function is good. 80/100*Flying tiger notebooks. basically its a shop where they sell small stuff like notebooks or stationary , kitchen tools etc,the paper quality is pretty good the build quality is good and the prices are very low like 5euro. Pretty much same paper as leuchtturm. What would you suggest ? @@sketchley

Oh my god, I almost cried...it was hurting so bad, watching you, taking the hardcover off.....🤣 I´m a Leuchtturm fan, been using them for 10 years for bullett journeling and journeling. I always find them cheap, for like 6/7 Euro at Tk Maxx. ALWAYS buy hardcovers... I love looking at them standing in my shelf, with the year sticker on them. AND THEY HAVE COVERS!!!!!!😆 I understand that you need them to be light weight, because you put them in a leather cover, but Leuchtturm has softcovers, too. I liked your video anyways... 😉

Hi Martin, I have to say that I was slightly aghast when I realized that you were going to take the cover off the Leuchtturm, but as another roterfaden user I get it. I tend to use slimmer notebooks in my roterfaden, usually a muji A5 or a Stalogy half year. If you want the chunky notebook without the cover I would like to suggest replacing the endpapers with a light cardstock, maybe of the same weight as the roterfaden calendar. Replacing the endpapers is an easy process and I'm sure there are many tutorials on youtube. Really enjoyed the video!

I have definitely done this before. Agree about the ribbons - first thing I always do with any notebook is rip out the ribbons. They are always lumpy and in the way. What I am finding is that I use a paper republic cover which is a round braided elastic and it is cutting into the binding. So I thing I am going to start skinning them in a light cover stock with a binding tape (like the white one you showed). Then better for archiving too. But for morning pages I really like the Moleskine folios that are dotted. Love dotted.
