Footage from two days along CPKC's Laggan Subdivision through Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies of western Alberta.
The Laggan Subdivision is part of the former Canadian Pacific transcon between Toronto, ON and Vancouver, BC. Heading west, the Laggan Subdivision starts in Calgary, AB and ends in Field, BC, passing through Canada's Banff National Park. The line sees heavy intermodal traffic, along with manifest freight and various bulk commodities. The world-famous Rocky Mountaineer runs seasonally between Vancouver and Banff via Kamloops.
This video covers the CPKC Laggan Subdivision between Lake Louise and Banff, AB; featuring several scenic locations along the Bow River, including the famous "Morant's Curve" near Lake Louise.
In April of 2023, Canadian Pacific Railway and Kansas City Southern merged, creating the Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railroad (CPKC), the largest railroad merger in over 20 years. During the summer of 2023, Canadian Pacific power was still plentiful on home rails, but Kansas City Southern power was often mixed with Canadian Pacific colors, a sign of the recent merger. As time moves forward, the new CPKC identity will appear on repainted locomotives.
