That and the fact the neutral party hosting the signing would often be the one called upon to arbitrate any later disputes between the signatories over the interpretation of said treaty, so them having a lot of diplomatic weight is kinda useful there as it's not like court no bailiff is going to enforce it so having a power behind you with enough diplomatic influence they could leverage to make non compliance far too costly was an asset I guess.

Daniel Griffin you are correct about the British. In fact most all of the European countries believed in colonization of other countries to steal their resources. Both Britain and France divide up the Middle East after WW1 to ensure they would control the oil. But the US, especially since the 29th century, hasn’t done that. And don’t go with that BS about oil in the Middle East, the US never took a single barrel of oil. Again, that was Britain and France. Any hot point on the Earth can be blamed on European countries conquering the lands and taking resources. The US has just gotten stuck cleaning up the messes they made.

About as big a military embarrassment on that side as the US losing the Chesapeake and the Bladensburg races of Virginia militia fleeing until the US Army at Baltimore could hold the line. Only major full scale battle with horrendous casualties (one sided) in the war was New Orleans. War of 1812 was a tit for tat little war. Gains made, then relinquished. It's all very well and easy to draw a straight line on a map, then determine this as a boundary on the ground, when that ground is fairly flat. It is somewhat more difficult when the boundary has been determined to be some natural feature such as a watershed or stream. In this latter case, it will also tend to move over time.
