ASCII is a text encoding or just a way to turn letters into numbers, which then can be easily represented as 0s and 1s, which is how any information on your computer is stored. Generally speaking, Unicode is a more popular encoding, because it supports every character from every language (and emoji), while ASCII is limited to English characters only, but it's much simpler, so that's why they used it here.

The first 128 code points of Unicode are identical to ASCII, so this could just as easily be Unicode. The lyrics to the song, Morse code, and KZread video IDs don't need anything outside of the ASCII range to be represented. You might be thinking of a UTF encoding, but UTF-8, the most common, is also identical in the first 128 code points, so it could be that too.

​@@lagomoof yeah, I was thinking of UTF-8, which totally is identical to ASCII for those characters, but gets more complex with more specialized characters however, less commonly, but still pretty commonly used UTF-16 (no matter if it's BE or LE byte order) will be physically different from ASCII if you look in the hex editor (but converting to numbers, first 128 code points if represented as 16-bit numbers will be identical apart from the header, it's just that there will be a lot of zero padding in the file itself due to 16-bit allocation per character)

Fun fact: ascii can be used to make art. Back in the day you could use ascii codes in MS-DOS to make art. Ascii can correspond to colors. Certain MS-DOS games used ascii as the art.

Erm what the soggy socks. God I absolutely hate soggy socks. Every time my socks get wet, it’s like an instant mood killer. The squishy feeling with each step is unbearable, and my feet quickly turn cold and uncomfortable. The worst part is the blisters that inevitably form if I have to wear wet socks for too long. Once, I went on a hike and stepped into a puddle. My socks were soaked, and within an hour, my feet were raw and blistered. It was miserable. Additionally, I worry about fungal infections like athlete’s foot, knowing that damp socks are a breeding ground for bacteria. The thought of having to deal with itchy, peeling skin on my feet is enough to make me cringe. Wet socks also make my feet stink, which is embarrassing, especially in social situations. I remember one time after a rainy soccer game, I had to remove my shoes at a friend’s house. The odor was so bad I felt mortified. It’s little moments like that which make me go out of my way to avoid soggy socks. Whether I’m trying to focus at work, enjoy a hike, or simply relax at home, soggy socks are a constant source of irritation and distraction. They can ruin what might otherwise be a perfectly good day. I always carry an extra pair of socks in my bag just in case, because I never want to experience that discomfort and embarrassment again.
