I have wondered that myself for the last ten years…I think its embarrassing…Toto had similar problems with Bobby Kimball. Thankfully Joseph Williams is back and sounds great and in tune…

Yes, Mangini is brilliant, but Portney brings impulsive tones, despite this being lucid and clean, which adds to DT the aggressiveness of metal. I'm divided between who is best for the band, but satisfied with Portney back.

He only screws up the chorus but sings all the verses pretty well

I don't get why they keep him - the rest of the musicianship is so good, then the singer is just.... not up to the same standard

@@omgu8mynewt He has a tone of voice that created the band's characteristics, changing it would be a big mistake, but he's really out of tune.

@@miguelachaneto I think if they want to keep him they should adapt - he seems fine at lower tones (verse) but loses control at higher pitch, maybe change so the chorus stays low pitch? They're definitely good enough musicians and artists to work around some limits as a team

James is actually performing well. You can not expect that a protagonist who is afraid of getting drowned in a barrel of wine in a secluded cellar sings in the key. He will scream like a pig, which is exactly how JLB performs it.
