The Cort Little CJ OR Taylor GS Mini-E? Travel Guitars Discussed

Музыка

Buy Cort Little CJ online: rguitars.co.uk/products/cort-...
Edit: OMG - I said it was £349 - then I WROTE it was £399.... but its actually.... £379! You can tell it only arrived today...
Finally! TODAY I received my first ever Cort Little CJ!! I have been waiting what seems forever for this little beauty to turn up.
It raises the question, why would you want to spend £200 more on a Taylor GS Mini which is presented by big high street and online retailers as the benchmark?
Watch the video and let me know your thoughts?
Personally - I LOVE the Cort Little CJ. What a wonderful little guitar - which can be used both acoustically and also an ideal stage guitar too.

I bought a Cort Little CJ Blackwood from GC last week (on clearance.) It's not loud by an means, but I can just play it all day! It has the easiest neck, fretboard, and action of any acoustic that I've ever owned (12+ in 45 years.) Its tone is really nice - lots of subtleties and nuances from the solid top. Great guitar!

The Cort acoustic guitars are certainly an interesting proposition. I’d like to see you cover the Gold series. They seem to be a lot of bang for your buck. They’ve got some bling, but I’d be more interested in how they compare sound wise to a similarly priced Eastman for example.

Interesting. It would have been good to hear a direct play-off against the GS. I have the walnut GS that you listed on your hi-tech whiteboard so strummed and picked on it against the sound of your Cort. Not a guaranteed objective comparison, I agree, because I wasn't hearing the true live sound of your guitar. However, my conclusion was that FOR ME the Taylor won hands down on warmth, depth of tone and good balance from bass to treble. I do agree that the Fishman controls offer much more than the Taylor although the GS does allow for tweaking sensitivity etc. at the bridge if you feel like it. (I haven't). That's my two penn'orth based purely on my own preferences but I do also agree that for anyone in the market for a good quality travel guitar, then the CORT certainly needs to be considered.

Its also worth noting that if you want to spend anywhere near the budget of the Taylor, Eastman produce an ALL SOLID wood travel electro that is completely 100% hand made (No CNC) with Fishman electronics and solid ovankol back and sides for £529 complete with thick padded gig bag. rguitars.co.uk/products/eastman-ac-tg-2e-travel-guitar-inc-100-professional-setup-added-value If you were in my shop and you insisted you actually wanted to spend your £600 budget on a small bodied / short scale / travel electro I would be showing you the Eastman because it offers the next step up tonally when played acoustically. However, with a travel guitar thats not always your #1 requirement. So at £379 you can have the beautiful Cort Little CJ which for my money I would take hands down on its style, finish and pure value for money £529 you have the hand made Eastman ACTG2E with its all solid wood finish - Check out the links - its gorgeous and sounds incredible. Both of course - cheaper than the Taylor

It seems strange to do a guitar comparison and not have one of the instruments present - I realize that Taylor does not say on their website that the GS-mini has an arched back, but if you had the instrument with you, you would have noticed. Not to mention: everything regarding the size of the Cort Little CJ and how convenient it is for all ages, all places, etc. would apply to the Taylor as well (assuming they're roughly the same size). It's just odd to put one guitar below another while not being familiar with it (or at least that's the impression I got). You did a similar thing with V-class; criticizing it as a meer marketing ploy before even trying one. No hate in this comment, just some confusion.

Lewis Loree if you don’t mind me saying I find your summary of the video rather confusing? The video was about the Cort guitar and then I used a guitar considered to be the benchmark to show the strength of specification at the price. No more not less. Nothing strange about that at all. Don’t shoot me if Taylor don’t mention the shape of the back in their guitar. As we have already discussed and you want to make something of I used to sell Taylor mini guitars and I stand by the video and the advice I offer. The comparisons on specification are honest and true: it’s obvious to anyone that the Taylor is the same size as that is why it’s being used as a comparison!! If anyone WANTS to spend £600 then they can but the Eastman actg2e which is 100% hand made, all solid woods with solid ovankol back. That guitar totally destroys the Taylor buy the video was about finding someone an affordable travel / first guitar and how to avoid having to spend £600 NOT the best travel guitar AT £600. The Taylor loses out on both counts anyway

@@RichardsGuitarshop Fair enough. Just to be clear I wasn't defending Taylor as the better guitar. By no means lol. I just think that an instrument comparison (though it may not be a "comparison video", regardless of the title) would ideally have both guitars present for fairness. Also I would never crucify you for not knowing that the GS-mini has an arched back... it's ridiculous that they would not list it on their website. My only point was that if you had the guitar with you it would have been noticed. But I'm not nearly as annoyed about any of this as I probably came across in my first comment, for that I apologize.

@@lewisloree1407 No worries! Its good to talk! A couple of videos back I mentioned that in future videos I would try and A) make them a little more to the point - which believe it or not I tried to do!!! HAHA B) Provide examples of competing guitars - which I did on this occasion and I just thought it would be helpful to show the specifications on paper (well .... board) so people could see visually how the guitars compare in terms of spec. Just thought it was a powerful way to get people thinking about what they are buying into. Just trying to be helpful and informative. I clearly can't have every guitar I am talking about with me in the building for every video but appreciate the feedback.

Appointments are one thing. Sound is another. The Cort is a looker and less expensive, but an A/B sound test tells the true tale. Only found one review on YouTbe doing doing so. Can’t understand the reviewer, but in his A/B test the Taylor sounds fuller. LittleCJ sounds a bit thin and jangly to my ears (and I really want to like it and save $). Their other travel guitar, The Cort Gold Mini e is all solid wood, but it costs almost as much as the Taylor GS Mini-e. Wish it wasn’t so hard to find Corts in stock in US guitar shops. Great channel! Subscribed!

As a trade butcher I prepare for my kids... burger buns, grilled seasoned lean ground beef patties , or crumbed chicken schnitzel, tomato, lettuce, the "works" then they make their own burger while I'm draining the fries. I see the satisfaction on their faces and say now isn't that better than McDonald's? I get a straight forward NO! Same goes for Pizza hutt, and Subway fake night. Hi. I think when you are considering a guitar for practicality and purpose it’s about the only time I would disagree as I think the built in tuner is really useful for travelling. The Taylor also has the pickup on the outside but the Eastman actg2e is a sound hole controlled pickup but also has solid ovankol back and all solid wood construction at just £529! It’s also totally hand made. Give that a check out too

I find it fascinating how when a person shows you how you can save money. Not £50, but £200 there are so many people who find it so distasteful? I am pretty sure all the down likes will be from people who have already made their purchase but I just hope that the people who see the down likes are not disuaded from watching the help offered. I find it really fascinating! Whilst the video wasn't in any way having a go at Taylor of the Mini GS - it was purely a reference to highlight the value of the Cort - but as the video definitely seems to be getting so much negative feedback it does make great content for a future video.... watch this space!

Aargh! 😂 You came so close to showing them sideways! It is so hard to find comparisons - or even reviews - that show the depth of a guitar. I'm a woman with small hands and also (of course) shorter arms - as do children - and the most important measurement on a guitar for someone with shorter arms is the depth of the body - one can sit the guitar further to the right (or left for lefties) with a standard scale neck but if the body is too thick to get an arm over, no adjustment to position will help. Do you know why this is so overlooked by reviewers and manufacturers? There are a few 'slimline'n or 'thinline', or shallow models but very few and they are often not much shallower than the normal. I even found a couple of small body guitars which advertised being deeper/thicker than even a standard guitar for a richer sound than most small body guitars, which is all very well but it cuts the target customer down to only very tall people who want a carry-on size guitar. It's so frustrating.

Hmmm sensing the Taylor fan club are going to get their claws into this one. Please let me state clearly that the video is about the value of the cort offering and how it compares in terms of specification to the Taylor. Purely to demonstrate its immense value and that if someone is on a tighter budget and wants a quality instrument of this type they don’t have to spend £600. If the video had been about the best guitar of its type at £600 then I would have compared it to the Eastman actg2e which is all solid woods with solid ovankol back and sides. For those who say I love my Taylor mini.... I have no doubt and at no point do I suggest you shouldn’t or that the Taylor mini is a bad guitar. There is a lot of sensitivity around the Taylor brand from people who own them and this is totally understandable and reasonable but please don’t shoot me down and down like my videos just because I am offering affordable quality alternatives. It’s my job and my customers rely on the honest advice which is always sincere.

The only reason why Taylor fan boys/girls bash everything cheaper than their guitar is very simple. after paying a premium price for their taylor guitars they are scared that there something at the same price or less and sounds the same or better lol. at the end of the day we all know that Taylor fan base overpays for their guitar and drive the price up. Great video by the way, really enjoyed watching it :)

Sorry but I hope you will find my note useful. The tiny bit of strumming that you did, and 3 lead notes... It sounded awful. Perhaps less talking (repetition of features) would help, more playing (not necessarily lead on an acoustic). Open back tuners... I have some on a much more expensive guitar: they hurt my fingers and wrist to turn them as they are so stiff. So open gear means nothing. Working well means everything. Closed or open. I used to have a Taylor GS Mini - E koa LTD edition. It was great. Despite the fact that Taylor's are expensive. What is the nut width on this? Also compare a Taylor GS Mini gig bag... Well padded and more support than that floppy Cort bag. Lastly, even if the Cort is cheaper, if you are going to reference the Taylor, at least play both - chords and finger picking so that your viewers have an idea what the difference is. On the plus side - your enthusiasm is wonderful .

Even with staff discount I won't be buying one of these. I will be going elsewhere to buy the ideal travel guitar - the GS mini because it sounds like a big guitar just without the volume.
