How to Choose a Guitar (Reviewing the Taylor GS Mini)

Музыка

Here's my review of the Taylor GS Mini Mahogany, which I've been playing for several months now.
I talk about how to choose a guitar, what criteria you should evaluate and what I think the most important factors are when considering a guitar purchase.
Thanks for watching, and check out my channel for more guitar stuff!

I have two GS-Mini’s. A Koa-e and a mahogany. I have some other guitars, some other Taylor’s, but I find myself playing the minis more and more. I play with no pick. I have discovered that I like the sound better and it makes them even easier to play by replacing the medium strings with lights. Interesting thing. The Koa guitar seems to sound better with d’addario ej16’s while the mahogany seems to favor Elixir. All acoustic guitars seem to have their own personality. I enjoy your channel. Thanks for the content.

I stopped playing guitar since 10 yrs ago after playing it for 20 yrs. I find playing my guitar a struggle. Its a big one and i have small hands It just so hard to play it. Bought it for $50. Now i have saved enough money and give GS mini a try. Ordered it yeaterday and i hope i wont be disappointed.

Love GS Mini's. I had a Mahogany one and it was definitely quieter than the spruce ones. The spruce top ones are noticeably brighter and louder. Regardless, I love all GS Mni's they're great.

The Mahogany ones look weird now. A few years ago, they were sold with a reddish/brown tortoise pick guard with a neck that was finished to match the color of the body and headstock. They looked awesome. Now, Taylor makes the mahogany bodies lighter so they can use the same necks on all the GS Minis without having to spend the extra bucks to make the necks match to the body. The new GS Minis look like someone got a Neck, Body and headstock from 3 different guitars and mashed them together. Oh, and no more tortoise pick guards. The Pearl inlays are definitely cheaper and duller as well.

Geez, you really nailed the 'looks' part. I am looking to buy an acoustic guitar and I was attracted to an 'ugly' or 'funky ' looking model (still am) but now this guitar has my attention. Ugly Betty is a hell of a lot cheaper than the GS Mini, though.

Do you keep tabs on humidity with it? The cost of buying dehumidity packs isn’t worth it to me so I’ve just been detuning it and putting it in the wardrobe in the case. Problem is it doesn’t get played as much that way. Would it be bad to keep it out in the open with no monitoring on humidity?

In this video, have you peel off the pickguard protect film yet ? I peel mine off last year, and leave a lot of scratch mark on it easily, I was thinking peel off the entire pickguard off also. Look better without pickguard

Try Martin Eric Clapton gauge 12, thought the Elixir 13 gauge was too difficult for a beginner. Yes you can use Martin strings on a Taylor guitar.
