Sorry to hear that
You don’t need to keep dipping. You can fill a whole page with one dip. Also glass on glass will break easily and I think your pen will be safer if you pour your ink into a plastic bottle. That little tip will break pretty easily. Thank you for the tutorial😊
I have been using a glass dip pen as well with my watercolors, they work really well even with cream consistency watercolor/water ratio. I love the regularity of the lines and how long it takes before it runs out of ink/paint. Remember to turn the pen instead of dipping because each groove acts as a reservoir and they don’t touch the paper all at the same time. This is particularly useful before wiping it off since you will waste ink or paint still remaining in the other grooves. I love using palettes with the small slanted wells for using the dip pen with watercolor, makes it easier to fill it back up by rolling the grooves in the well.

@SorciereSylvestre I use my glass dip pen the same way you do. I prefer watercolour over ink because I can vary the colours and give the effect of highlights and shadowed areas as well as outlines.
Liked the tutorial. Very nice ink and watercolor. I need to buy one those glass dip pens.

You should!
Beautiful!! You may want to use a secondary container to put the ink bottle in as it is susceptible of tipping over while the pen is dipped and that'd make a huge mess

Great tip!
love a bit of abstract. I usually paint in fine detail. But when I do "abstract" I feel so free and use it like a break from my "usual". Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks so much - I’ve had a glass dip pen for a few years and I love it- blobs and skips and all!

Wonderful!
In case u r unfamiliar, I recommend the Kakimori Steel and its cousin the Brass bullet nibs. In contrast to a glass pen, they hold enough ink on one dip to last a paragraph instead of a word or two. And while if you hold it more upright, a very thin line, but if you hold it more parallel to the paper, a VERY thick line of ink. Really quite impressive the variety. Thanks as always for your helpful & detailed post!

Fun, I was using mine just last night, with Kuretake gold, on an abstract painting because my brain is tired. Love the fun painting, Ellen!
If you like an easily variable line width, you might try a Fude style fountain pen. It has a bent nib, and so the line width varies with the angle of the pen to the paper when making a stroke. There are several brands that make them.

I have a couple glass pens, not a fan, but they didn't come from Venice! What I love about your paintings is that you layer the colors over and they just work. Maybe because you then use an outline or liner. I did buy a Lamy fountain pen with carbon black waterproof ink and it's great! I'll try this as soon as the video is over, need done self inspiration.

I do have a glass pen from Venice, but yours is a much finer point-very nice! Mine isn't too reliable. The pens that produce varied line widths are vintage dip and fountain pens with flexible nibs! They continued making them in Europe until about 1950 and I've found some good ones at antique stores (as well as at pen shows and from online dealers).

This was so much fun. Thank you so much. I wish I could have shared my painting to show you. What a great way to celebrate Fall. I so enjoy your tutorials and painting with you has been so good for my spirit. Thank you so much.
So beautiful. I love leaves! There must be something wonderful to do with my hundreds of giant maple leaves - 12"across? Also love your pen and know a fountain pen if any kind can change your life. I had a Rotring and carried it around 16 years. Now lost it. So sad. But after going thru all nooks and crannies of my too-full house with no luck I got a new one that came in lovely wood box. Not the same but glad to see your ideas for what can be done around leaf paintings. By the way, some of best fall leaves can be found in western Washington state. Can't wait to hear about your next trip to Any Place in Europe. please be extensive in description 😅❤

Oh those colours 💚
I recommend transferring some ink into a plastic container for use with a glass dip pen. At some point the pen will accidentally come in contact with the bottle and glass on glass can end with a chipped pen which basically renders it unusable 😮

I’ve been playing with one for a while & I’m amazed how long I can sketch without dipping. Also l learned if you use a pen with straight channels instead of spiral you can apply masking fluid and use watercolors by brushing onto nib. Works great! Wonderful for fine details. I bought one so now have two. They are so pretty too and not expensive…warning….use pen stand or lay on something so it doesn’t roll off…ask me how I know😢
What fun!! Love the textures and your new pen!!❤
