WOWZA! Today, we take a look at the 22Convention, which is a self-help convention made specifically for women...put on by a bunch of dudes! The whole concept of this convention was just so insane to me, so I decided to talk about it and see if they really know what they're talking about (spoiler alert: they don't). Enjoy!

    16:37 My girlfriend is very into traditional femininity. Her aspiration in life is to be a housewife. She’s been like this since she was little, and made it well known when I met her. But she’s also a feminist who believes in equal rights. That can coexist. And no one is forcing these women to reject traditional femininity??? There are plenty of women who enjoy that, and choose that path.

    I've always noticed that books written in and around the 1800s by WOMEN have always portrayed women's views completely differently than books by MEN. In books like Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, Little House on the Prairie, Gone with the Wind, ex cetera, the women are usually sensible, strong, intelligent and not just weak emotional wrecks who love to cook and clean. In short, they actually have personality traits besides being kind and nurturing. While books by men usually portray at least one woman as a weak, stumbling idiot who has no purpose in life but to bear men's children.

    Really? I mean negative stereotypes exist for a reason but usually the stories written by men also have a strong, sensible female lead (or sidekick). I specialize in roman/greek/german medieval history so the 1800s are not my expertise, but even in medieval stories you often have multiple good women and one bad counterexample (for example in "Wigalois", you have the princess who is loyal to her betrothed and does not give up on him even when he seems to be dead. or the antagonists wife (some duchess) who cunningly bargains for her husband to be released. the only negative stereotype is the wild fisherwoman who finds the protagonist unconscious and takes advantage of his state by stealing from him and later gaslighting him. - none of the women in the book had children or were mentioned for that purpose) A lot of medieval stories that I read were based around that structure: 2-3 good women and 1 bad example which seems about alright to me.

Not saying there's absolutely no independent women in all of history pre-1800s, but there's a massive increase once the masses became literate and publishing became a thing. A lot of medieval and ancient stories have been influenced by countless re-writes through pen or oral storytelling. This blurs the line of authorship, and they become the product of a community rather than a single person. However if you look at novels in the last 250 years, where we know who the author was so we can draw a clear line between male and female authors. And like OP said, those written by women definitely have more developed female characters than those by men

  • @Widdekuu91

    @Widdekuu91

    @@justinmathew8097 With the risk of justifying violence, which I'm not trying to do, here is a comparison. Assuming a woman is drunk, large and she picks on a smaller, physically not-so-strong guy. She has no reason for this, he's just there on the wrong moment. And she bends over, grabs his arm, throws a slur in his face and slaps him. He has my permission to slap her back immediately, yank his arm away and run off. As anyone would. Self defense, that is. Clearly. She could've really hurt him. Now, we take another of the genders. A man, drunk and large, picks on a smaller, physically not-so-strong girl. He has no reason for this, she is just there on the wrong moment. He bends over, grabs her arm, throws a slur in her face and slaps her. She has my permission to slap him back immediately, yank her arm away and run off, as anyone would. Self defense that is. Clearly. He could've really hurt her. Now, we set the scene differently. There is a large man, and a petite woman. She is drunk, upset and picks on him, while he is physically larger and stronger. She has no reason for this, he's just there on the wrong moment. She stands on her tippytoes, grabs his arm (he likely moves away, since he's bigger) and then she throws a slur in his face and slaps him. He has my permission to push her back immediately, yank his arm away and walk off. As anyone would. Self defense that is. Clearly. She slapped him. If you are physically a lot stronger than your opposition, you may still defend yourself if they come with force (if a woman attacks a man, he must defend himself) but since we're talking a face-slap here, the best thing to do if you don't fear for your life, is just walk off. As a woman, I have been face-slapped by quite some men, though usually it was punched with a fist or beaten otherwise. I was bullied severely in class. I have tried to fight back, but usually there were more than one. It was very unsafe. I never felt "irritated" or "annoyed", because they were bigger than me, I felt unsafe. In certain cases, it also led to sexual assault. I do not condone hitting a man. I do not condone hitting a woman. I don't condone hitting someone with glasses/in a wheelchair/with dwarfism/etc. If they relentlessly attack you, ofcourse you attack back. If you feel your life is in danger, you fight for your life. If you face rape, death or torture, you fight!!! Hell, if a 5 year old attacks me physically with a knife, I'll whack the crap out of him. But since famously, most men are a lot stronger than women in comparison, there is a difference in slapping a woman and a man. Not to mention, I have never seen a woman slapping a man (apart from when I hit my teacher, when he assaulted me) so I wonder what these men do that causes women to hit them. Have you often been hit by a woman, Justin?

    I once visited a modelcar-race with my ex, who owned a modelcar. I was 21, but decided to behave like a stereotypical 'wifey' that day. Packed him some food and (overly) supported him in everything, taking pictures of him and his modelcar, trying to actively understand what was going on. He seemed to appreciate it, though I really felt like some sortof motherfigure hovering in the background, which is when an older guy came up to us. I politely introduced myself and stuck out my hand, but the man didn't shake it. He said; 'Why did you bring a woman?' He didn't smile, he was serious. My ex shrugged his shoulders and could not find a single cell in his body that was strong enough to stand up for me. I smiled and said; 'Oh, don't worry sir, I've been updated on the cars and the races. I've been taking pictures..I know a little bit about racing too." (This was half-a-bluff. My ex always made me sit through Formula One, which I hated, so I was up to date on the recent developments.) The man silently stared at me and I said; 'Since we're talking about that, what did you think about McLaren suddenly pushing the RedBulls off the track with his lastminute trick, yesterday? Many people were divived over whether that was a legit move...I'd say he could've waited until the tunnel. Raikkonen had a good one though, first that bit with Fernando Alonso, then Jensen Button and that close call with Schumacher. Interesting race, hm?" He kept staring and I waited. He then looked at my ex, without a hint of a smile, gave him a shoulder-pat and said; 'Nou, die heb je goed afgericht" and walked off. I'm Dutch, and what he said is difficult to translate, but it is a very degrading version of; 'You've trained that one well." But instead of training, it's more like a dominating kindof taming. Like "she has submitted herself to you' in a way. You say it about wild dogs, sometimes horses, but mainly about wild animals that "require a whip" (or so they thought, in the old days.) When the man walked off, I looked at my ex, who nervously giggled, waved and with an empty facial expression said; 'Oh eh..thanks! Goodbye!' I hissed; 'Are you crazy? Didn't you hear what he said?! Afgericht! He insulted me...' My ex looked very uncomfortable, shrugged his shoulders and said; 'Maybe it was a joke..let's just..it's...it's okay, let's just continue, alright?' and walked off. I don't recall my ex ever standing up for me, in any situation, no matter how dire the need was. (Just FYI I'm currently (actively) learning to stand up for myself and not depend on others to help me in these sortof situations. I hope he's actively learning the same and then also _how to stand up for others_ because I think he should sometimes.)

    @@yaboicolleen Thankyou. Coincidentally I spoke to my therapist today and she said the same thing and noticed I was a lot more comfortable during fights* when I stood up for others and shared my opinion. Thanks again, have a good day tomorrow! :) * In a few sentences, a trouble teen was angry with the world and provokingly started insulting his caretaker, during an artclass that I has also joined. She didn't say anything back, neither did we (the painting women) until after a few minutes, when he sneered; 'What if I start wishing incurable diseases onto you and tell you to fuck off?! What then huh?! What if I say that I wish you had an incurabl-" Which is when I turned around (still holding my paintbrush) and told him loudly, but politely; 'We are still here and we do not appreciate you using this tone. If you choose to behave this way, we'd rather see you leave, you can sit in the canteen and wait over there!" He was already halfway through the hallway after the first sentence, haha. I did not realise a simple sentence had so much power. I also spoke to the caretaker about this and mentioned to her that this method of 'hoping and ignoring" wasn't working and that he can't mess up the class out of boredom. She decided that next time, she'd find an activity for him that he actually enjoyed. The women around me admitted that they had been too scared to tell him to stop, and one said; 'Last week he kept talking to me about stabbing and knifes and wounds. He's a trouble teen, but he really makes me nervous and it bothers me during the artclass." So, I did the right thing by putting up a boundary and it won't happen again. :-)

My mom had to covertly go to job interviews and then act as if she had just gotten a random job offer just to keep food on our table, until my dad just up and abandoned us when I was about 12. I think it's somewhat rare that it's on the mother. Especially at a young age I imagine the fathers are more likely to wanna avoid responsibility becaue they're not emotionally and romantically mature enough. This ofc goes both ways but I imagine it's easier for the father since he's not the one carrying and giving birth to the child. Just look at the kids Kyle and Jason from the TLC show Unexpected. They're around 16, I think? and he's not mature enough to be a parent and he winds up mentally abusing Kyle and blaming her for his stupid actions.

    Thank you for sharing a normal, commonsense take on feminism. Lol it has such a bad name now, mostly because of “menanist” movements like this 😂 my father thought he was all for equality but was actually always a huge misogynist- he just didn’t recognise that’s what it was. It was exhausting. I won’t go into it but it got really dark for us kids. He should never have been allowed to have daughters. But! He still thinks he’s a legend and all for equality. 🙄 Misogynistic ppl think misogyny doesn’t exist in the same way as racists don’t see how racism is a modern day issue.

    What's sad is that I go to school with people who actually believe this nonsense. You can't talk about things like feminism, racism, or LGBTQIA+ rights because everyone will hate you. If my classmates sense even just a hint of "liberalism" in your speech, in like say a class discussion, you will no longer be tolerated. You can't talk about those kind of things without fearing for your own safety. One person who said something against what they thought got death threats and had kids showing up at their house with guns. And when even teachers believe the far right nonsense that most of the students do, you feel like you can't participate in a discussion without your ideas being oppressed. Every time they say something like "fuck feminism", "I hate gays", "climate change isn't real", "the Black Lives Matter movement is a supremacy organization", or start talking about freaking conspiracy theories and "the capital riot wasn't an insurrection" I wanna crawl in a hole and never come out again. Long story short: Yes Kurtis, people like this do exist and are honestly that stupid. They are the children of the future, country kids who are so dumb they say they speak "American" and hate anyone and any culture or language other than white Americans who could care less about the Earth and the people on it other than themselves. I really hope no one has to encounter these people in their lifetime. Sincerely, a girl from the Midwest

    I was grateful to have been in a small town (a former sundown town in Kansas with less than 2k people) with students that were generally chill or neutral with minority groups. I was in a relationship while there with one of the two other queer kids and rarely felt unsafe. Most of my discomfort was from faculty who couldn’t mind their own business. That was all before 45 was president, though. For the sake of our future, I really hope your school is an outlier. I’m so sorry that your school and home environment was/is so putrid. My dad’s side of the family are full of “good Christian country folks” that either don’t read the Bible or cherry pick their literal interpretations so as to support hating anyone who doesn’t believe exactly as they do, so I know how that goes. Family gatherings indeed suck. I hope that you’ll be able to get out of there soon, or have already been able to. Recovering from the stress/trauma of being in such a situation is a process for sure, but just being away from the BS is so nice. Best wishes fellow Midwesterner ❤️

  • @kingmelanin7468

    Ms. Makerspace Actually, yes. If a woman wants equality that differs from historical traditions, why then do majority of women admittedly continue to engage in slight and light assault upon men? There are so many stories of women not being believed when they report marital rape to LEOs but there are just as many stories of domestic violence against men in traditional romantic relationships and police laugh, literally. If women want equality then they will suffer the consequences of my jujitsu and military training because that’s how I’d treat any other male combatant. Gone are the days of “I was just playing” when I receive a dick punch or “I’m sorry. I was emotional” when I’m slapped for looking at another woman or didn’t communicate. Equal rights = equal fights! May the best trained human win.

    Great video and great comments from the men here who are supporting women. it's so nice and refreshing to see videos and read comments from men speaking out against misogyny and supporting women. Sadly when women advocate for themselves they often still receive misogynistic responses and too often a woman's opinions are taken less seriously than a man's. An example of this is a few years back when I lived in a small, very deprived rural UK town, i often took my then toddler son to the local community center as it was one of the few places that held toddler groups where I got to know the manager of that centre. Despite her good relationship with the local MP and being good at her job for many years, she sadly found that once she stopped refering herself as "Christina" but instead shorted her name to "Chris", she was taken more seriously in emails and got much better responses. This was from 2019, not 1919 btw.....
