After a successful performance a few months ago, listening to it again very nearly brought a year to my eye. This will probably remain the hardest sax ensemble piece I’ve played for years to come.

Glad to hear your performance went well! The work was written for a particularly virtuosic ensemble, so I wasn't being particularly mindful about the technical challenge aspect at the time. I'm pleased you took it on!
"Bellows" is such a great piece, one of the few times where the soprano outshines the rest of the quartet for me.
I transposed this for alto sax, tenor, trombone, and flute. this song is amazing!

Brilliant to say the least. This kind of piece is what got me into composing and music in the first place. When I say I adore contemporary composition this is exactly what I’m referring to.
finally, i have a purchased copy of this piece in my possession. it’s the piece that inspired me to get some of my friends together and make a quartet. can’t wait to start practicing
My quartet is still deciding on what to play, but I'm trying to get my leader to choose this one, it's so beautiful and it looks like a lot of fun.
I just received this piece, and I can’t WAIT to play it. As the soprano player, I physically can’t express how beautiful the first movement is, and as a composer myself, the whole piece is undeniably amazing! PLEASE do more!
My quartet is performing this next Sunday for our quartet recital! Thank you for writing such an amazing work! It fits our group sooo well!!
Amazing composition! An inventive and demanding tour de force. Also gotta shout out the great Bari Sax part at 3:40
Straight off of a first listen, I love this-I will bring it up when we next talk about programming!
This piece is so great that me and my high school friends are doing that third movement for a concert soon and plan to try and do the whole thing next year
I'm in high school and play bari. Me and some of my friends just had our first rehearsal of movements 2 and 3 and I love how it sounds! Great writing.
Beautiful piece, masterfully composed. The little counterlines and harmonies are truly magnificent. Pieces like this remind me why I do music. Amazing!
I find myself constantly listening to this music! I just love the themes and how they all mix together so well in the end it’s truly telling a story! I’m not anywhere near the level, but I would be proud if I could be able to play all these pieces with an ensemble 😁
this is definitely one of my more favorite sax quartets, absolutely beautiful
This is pure beauty! I play tenor and this is a perfect addition to the saxophone musical library. Activation has to be my favorite movement. I cannot express in words how wonderful this is! Thank you for composing this masterpiece. I wish you much success composing for many years to come! ❤❤🙏🙏

this is incredibly good! I've shared it with my friends and they've loved it to! Keep it up!
This is gorgeous! Especially movement four, genius.
Absolutely wonderful. In a way its like color with a fine tip but with soft strokes its a masterpiece. Inspiration through the roof.
This piece is amazing! I love how you brought all the themes in the last movement
This is one of the most wonderful quartets I have ever listened to! Thank you for this blessing to my ears
Just purchased the piece with my friends!!! It finally came in cant wait
this is incredible really nice work
Amazing piece, everything about it is stunning and captures the ideas and strengths of each instrument amazingly. I love all the contrasting sounds in all the first four movements that all end up coming together to create the incredible soundscape and theme of movement 5. Composers like you are the reason I want to be one so bad, we love coming up with ideas and expressing them through music. Me and my buddies are thinking of playing this for a contest at our school in May of next year (2025) where we will hopefully play all five moments in the entirety. For most of my ensemble, we will be seniors in high school next year and we all think this would be an amazing piece to end our high school careers on. I’m actually a clarinet player but I’ve taken on the task of learning soprano sax to contribute with my group. We’re all super excited and can’t wait to see what more you have in store and what we can accomplish. From one Lachlan to another, keep up the amazing work!!!😁

oh how i love contemporary composition
Beautiful writing! Please get a sax quartet to perform and record it. It really needs the humanity of 4 people working with each other’s ideas. But I think the writing is there. Keep up the good work. This is a fine addition to the repertory of an instrument that is possibly at its chamber music zenith when playing with four versions of itself, rather than as a solo instrument in orchestral or recital concerts. But maybe your writing will elevate it in those other concerts as well if you keep it up. Congratulations on a well-composed quartet!

Good analysis! There is deliberate ambiguity around the tonality, particularly in relation to the 3 prominent recurring chords. Sometimes it is represented as IV, vi, V ... elsewhere it is VIb, i, VIIb - notably when first established in the 3rd movement. Either way, you are correct. This is actually the case throughout the entire work - only the first movement ends unambiguously on the tonic.
