I get feeling proud of your children but the thought that someone could take an image of my grandchild and use it inappropriately is enough for me not to post any identifying images. Privacy and protection are the basis of my decisions. Personal pride is way less important than the well being of a child IMHO.

Kids shouldn't be used by parents/guardians online.

We don't know what the future holds as far as governments and privacy security is concerned. We don't know what will be in our children's best interest and for these reasons I just cannot post any photograph of my children. A general curtesy is to ask or check with any person before we post a picture they are included in and that same curtesy should be extended to our own children but as they are too young to give consent I think we must abstain from making that decision for them and posting. Legal and safety issues must also be considered.

If any of your photos are used by someone else besides you - online, Don't be proud of it.

When I was about 30 my paternal aunt collected a lot of "home movies" that pre-dated the video cameras of the 80s, so they had no sound. She put them into a chronological compilation and sent copies out. The footage of me was from when I was about 9 years old and I was crying because my brother (then 7) aimed the garden hose at me and I was running away from it. He was laughing at me. I was not asked for consent to allow this to be included. I was furious with her over this and her excuse was that there was no other footage of my brother. I was a bit of a crybaby child who became a very stoic adult and I found this humiliating. Years later at the dawn of social media I saw photos on an internet message board of the poster's children with their names and dates of birth on them. She was boasting about how outgoing and affectionate her children were. I started worrying about paedophiles (no, the children were fully clothed). She poo-pooed my warning about this. As one person in this video pointed out, images you post are always out there. If I were a lawyer I would represent children who sue parents for this. it's not a "family album" of pages with printed photos that parents show when they have visitors. It's something that can be seen -- and used for nefarious purposes -- by anyone. The French have the right idea about this.

They all seem to have their child in mind when they post pictures of them to the internet. But not all parents are all like that. Some do it to exploit them.
