9:31 - actually, toriel can kill you. apparently this is meant to be an accident. when your HP is extremely low ( 2, 1) and it's hit with an attack that's NOT the one that dodges you, for a split second, before the battlefield disappears and the heart shaped soul shatters, toriels sprite changes. her eyes get wide and her pupils get tiny while she covers her mouth in shock.

fun fact: you can kill flowey and still get the true pacifist ending. if you kill him, he just wont be around to tell you that there is a better ending, but if you reload you can still do it. its because killing flowey doesnt count as a kill, since flowey has no soul

I just realized.. during the part when "Bring it in, guys!" plays, in the Toriel, Asgore, and Monster Kid Segment, Asgore is 'trimming the hedge in the shape of Papyrus's smile'. Sound Familiar? Another Thing Mettaton Is A Great Character. Why? Because, he entertained and distracted the monsters away from depression until Asgore could break the barrier. I assume families sat down and watched him on TV, eating spaghetti, laughing at him, and forgetting, for a brief moment, that they were ever trapped underground.

Just an opinion, but I think Undertale still has one of the most well written narratives to this day. The music and everything about it is perfection. I'm really looking forward to the genocide run.

Chara's motives are interpreted differently by a lot of people. Personally I don't think they were evil when they fell. It's more likely they were suicidal. I think the pie thing was an accident. And it was implied that they wanted to free the monsters by killing themself. But it's up to individual thought. No theory is invalid.

Undertale's story has so many layers and character depth for such a "short" game. The beauty of the game is that it doesn't tell it's story and themes with words alone but with the game play, the music, and everything in between.

I feel like Undertale is one of those games that's short because most of the story is lore-based and the focus of the game is to tell the story, which is built from small bits and pieces of details that you find within the game. Like if Toby wanted the game to be long and super replayable then he would've added more endings and probably would've let you play out the whole beginning sequence of climbing the mountain before you fell into the underground or maybe fighting in the humans v monsters war. Also since he's a lone developer and had almost no help on the game except for a few musical pieces and whatnot, he probably didn't have the time to make the game really long.

@laith yeah but its lore really isn't that great first u have the act that most of its lore isn't even in game and u need things such as the mobestiary which most people wont have to get a sense of narrative and if its on the internet then most people wont be connected enough to char to feel like any thing most of the lore in mincraft is dead . ( unless ur talking about Minecraft story mode )

I had a look at the comments and honestly I’m so happy I don’t see any, “FRISK IS EVIL!” comments. Personally, I think that Frisk is only being their self on the pacifist route because that’s the only route that you actually hear their name. The player is the evil one.

Was there any confirmation on Chara poisoning Asgore on purpose? I was under the impression that it was an accident, but it indeed seeded the idea to poison herself and attack humanity. I also theorized that because her possitive experiences with monsters underground was so different from her implied negative experiences with humans on the surface, she believed that they (the monsters) deserved to live on the surface *Instead* of humans, rather than coexistence. I personally also support the theory that she struggled with her self-worth, (maybe due to past trauma, and/or because she was also human and she percieved this fact automatically made her "bad"?), and this amplified when she accidentally poisoned Asgore.. making the decision to end her own life easier in order to free monsters. One reason Im on the "Chara isnt evil" team is the change in narration between a True Pacifist and Genocide play through. I believe that in the first, the kindness shown by Frisk to the monsters allows Chara to accept the good in humans, and herself, and emotionally heal. With no strong sense of purpose tying her to the underground, she remains unseen to the player. But not unheard~ If you recall looking in the hall mirror at Home towards the end of the game, the narrator states that "Despite everything, its still you..." Frisk being the one in control, I strongly believe this comment, as well as narrations made about monsters Frisk encounters, are coming from Chara. So long as Frisk was Pacifist, the narrative was never sinister. Yet if a Genocide route is triggered, the comments about monsters becomes much darker... and the mirror narration is changed to "Its me, Chara.." My theory is that Chara never getting the chance to "move on" and having to watch a determined human slaughter the monsters she use to love... caused her to snap. Her hatred leads to her newest plan; taking control of the timeline and inheriting the "evil" identity she believes all humans to have. When Chara addresses the player at the end (Genocide), she mentions that it was their Determination that summoned her. But I do not believe that the Determination to say.. hunt and kill all the monsters.. is any more powerful than the Determination to save the entire underground. What I mean is, if Chara's soul was wakened by Genocide Frisk, why couldn't it also be wakened during Pacifist Frisk? In conclusion, Chara is not evil, but instead influenced by the players decisions due to her implied tragic background ♡

Great, great job, as an undertale nerd I spotted only 2 mistakes in the whole video: 1) Chara never tried harvesting monster souls but sacrifices their own in order to free the monsters, 2) Undyne never invited Frisk to her house, Papyrus did for her. Other than that, the explanation was great and much better than any I could give without overcomplicating things

There is at least partial responsibility for genocide, and even though a reset is preferable to all those deaths, the player has to open undertale for 10 minutes before chara lets him sell his soul and reset. So not exactly pointless. Pointless for a demon who wants destruction, but not for a being with compassion.

you missed the fact that mettaton was a ghost, napstablook's brother so alphys didnt made it, gave him a body, a vessel, which is why actually she is hired to be the royal scientist and study the nature of the soul to harnest its power, just like she suceeded with mettatons soul in his new body

My only correction would be Asgore's motivation. After Chara's death Asgore does declare war on the human world and does say that any human found in the underground would die, but he cools down and immediately regrets his decision. However, he sees the hope that the declaration has given his people and he can't bring himself to ruin that for them.

You forgot to mention how Chara’s ghost follows Frisk around as the narrator of the story. (That’s how they get flashbacks with Chara and Asriel.)

IMO, chara wasn't trying to kill Asgore. They were trying to make a pie, but misheard the recipe. It's heavily implied laughing is a common coping mechanism(Sans, Snowdrake family,etc.) in the Underground, so maybe they were trying to cope with, oh, i don't know, maybe poisoning their dad. You're right about the revenge thing though, a possible explanation is they were abused and ridiculed on the surface. Edit: also i think Chara wanted to take 6 souls, break the barrier then either let the monsters and humans live in peace, or let the monsters avenge them. Also I am a heavy believer of the CharaNara theory

The first point is definitely correct because the librarby books and Waterfall engravings state that humans cannot absorb monster souls. The most that a human can do with a monster soul is temporarily hold onto a boss monster's soul and use it to pass through the barrier (which would just bring Chara back to square one), and it's implied that the boss monster soul will eventually turn to dust after death like regular monster souls do. The only way for a powerful monster/human hybrid to exist is if a monster absorbs a human's soul (not vice-versa). We don't know exactly what Chara knew about monster lore/history, but given that Gerson was a contemporary of theirs and it's stated/implied that he either wrote or studied the Waterfall carvings and he was close to the Dreemurr family, it's likely Chara would've known that taking a monster's soul wouldn't have achieved their desired goal. Speaking strictly of my own opinion, I think the narrative purpose of the Asgore poisoning tape was to foreshadow Chara's eventual cause of death and show where they got the idea from. IMO Asgore's poisoning was a genuine accident, but there's room for interpretation.

Exactly, i hate that people misunderstand the whole “chara laughing” after the accidental posioning as chara enjoying almost killing their goat dad. In the game lots of characters laugh to hide the pain, which i still think was what chara was doing. Hiding their sorrow at almost killing asgore. And i think the pie did serve to foreshadow and give chara the idea to use the flowers to kill themselves to give the monsters a headstart on the whole soul harvest and break the barrier

The first part is all according to a theory called "Evil Chara Theory". And that theory has been debunked multiple times in what is known collectively as "Narrator Chara Theory", which is based on a higher amount of evidence in-game and can be backed up by phycology

I think that its not really narator chara, but more of a failed attempt of genocide that gave chara enough power to see frisk's genocide. As chara was the original human to start the game she gains power from any kills, including frisk's. At the end of genocide she realises how much of a monster she was and needed to erase the world. But then the human refuses and chara has one last Impulse and immediately kills frisk. Ending the genocide loop

Charas back story is very false they never wanted to kill their family

I'm pretty sure the garbage dump Mad Dummy is not Napstablook's cousin. The Mad Dummy references his ghost cousin as another ghost living inside a dummy, which is the one Toriel uses to teach Frisk about talking to monsters in order to avoid a fight.

Honestly, the whole Chara thing is kinda up to interpretation, sure it could be seen as malevolent intent, or just a nice hearted attempt to free their new family. I personally buy into the nice Chara theory rather than the revenge filled theory.

Hi. if you play, or watch "Genocide" game, you will understand Chara is bad, really bad. I agree, it's kinda up to interpretation, but she want to either, watch you killing monsters to make you stronger, one time after another, or start a war between humans and mosnters again. Watching your stats going up (trough killing), that "feeling" it's me, Chara said. But she also said, "our plan had failed". She could mean the war could never start (cause you killed all the monsters), or nothing left to kill. Since there still a human world to kill out there, y think she's up to War, and that's why she reset the World. Making Asgore go up so Chara could see the flowers one last time before to die, almost start a war again, but instead humans sealed Monsters World entrance. So... Chara's plan failed. That's what Chara realize once woke up again because of your genocide gameplay. But, as you said, is up to interpretation. Peace

The main problem with evil chara is information bias, we only see her at the end of the genocide run, meaning she's bad right? No. They are molded by your actions that's why on pacifist routes their narration is optimistic, while on a genocide path it's pessimistic

? That video just proves that you are wrong. 1.Chara has your soul now so she get to feel things, not Frisk 2. From the beginning the only reason she was ok with the Genocide route was for the experience and because of the LOVE she got when Frisk started killing. 3. She understands doing it once but by the next Genocide she is really creeped by you and suggests you take another path.

Out of the many times i played the game, i never realized alphys forms her hand into the answers of the trivia questions

I don't think that Alphys ever had a massive crush on Asgore... She just wanted to make a good impression to the king because she was the new royal scientist and she new that she would never truly replace Dr Gaster because she wasn't very confident... Just to clarify, I believe that if you do a neutral run first, that you have to reset the save, and replay, doing a pacifict run, and then get to flowey again. At that point, if you haven't met all the requiremtns, then flowey will tell you what you need to do, and instead of resetting, you just have to reload the save to go finish what you need to do

Lol, it's not like 70% at all. On the contrary, about 70 (or even 80)% of the fandom thinks Chara's evil.

"Asgore uses their souls to become extremely powerful" He doesn't though. They're clearly kept in those jars for later, and Flowey later absorbs and destroys them. As Toriel said, he could've just absorbed one but he chose to wait and hope seven would come and die.

What a great story. Even though I didn't finish the game (not my type of gameplay) I value the efforts more than anyone.

You can learn from the turtle shop keeper that when a monster reaches maturity that stop aging till they have a child and age as their child ages, And that Toriel and Asgore can't age anymore and will outlive frisk due to having no offspring anymore

That's another way to trigger it, since most players when first play just gonna fight Asgore instead of going back because they thought there would be no purpose, unless they still have extra moneys to bought some glamburger for healing then they would go back

Also the game REQUIRES you to have done at least one neutral run (even if it's on a seperate timeline) to initiate the alphys date, so if it's your second run, you can do that but on your first run, you have to do the asgore fight no matter what.

Despite Chara’s ambiguousness and purposeful moral ambiguity I do not think they actually purposefully tried to kill Asgore, I thought it was implied that they had got the idea after the incident (as shown in one of the tapes that in the lab)

That was a great video! This helped me understand the timeline since I was lost and confused, way better than reading through the wiki. Looking forward to the genocide timeline!

Where is it implied that Chara wanted to kill Asgore to absorb his soul? I replayed the game multiple times and read whole wikia about Undertale, but this is the first time I am hearing this. Also, it is confirmed through ingame tapes and Asriel's dialog that Chara actually planned to commit suicide and let Asriel to absorb Chara's soul.

Agree. The only thing I found from the tapes was Chara tried to commit suicide so Asriel can take their body and go outside, take 6 human souls and free his kind, and they were 'inspired' from that accident when they almost killed Asgore using Buttercups and used the same thing "to erase themself". That might be the only problem I have with this video. Edit: nvm, there are another problems I have with this video

The sad story of asriel. Asriel asked her mom to go the ruins When he went to the end of the ruins he met chara chara was wounded so asriel told to chara "do you wanna come to my home?" Then they greatly became best friends chara loved asriel and asriel loved chara but when chara died asriel was sad so he took her soul then took charas body to the surface he found a buttercup patch he tried to lay her body on the buttercups but the humans thought asriel has killed xhara so the humans attacked and almost killed asriel asriel did not attack even if he had the power to end them all. So asriel took the body went back to the underground to bury charas body in the buttecup patch when he was doing it he died and turned to dust because of the attacks of the humans. (He did not attack the humans because he felt like it was killing chara.) When he died agore said to never give mercy to the people who fell down then came the 6 souls then asgore told alphys to make a soul made by her but gaster has done it so alphys thought she could do it. She failed the flower expirement but did it? No the expirement did not fail it made asriel but as a flower then became the violent flower thats says KILL OR BE KILLED flower its flowey.

Slight correction: Asriel actually takes Chara's body to a bed of Golden Flowers not a bed of buttercups.

Ya, chara didn't know they were poisonous. Then when asgore got sick from the pie (ON ACCIDENT!) she found out and made that plan with asriel for him to absorb her soul and then they died, ect, ect. The people who made this video just used the "chara is evil" theory when its not even canon! They put in that they were talking all facts but that disclaimer was a pure lie.

Correction: Chara did not attempt to murder Asgore, she was litterally 10 years old at the time and while you could say "oH BUt sHe LaUGhEd" yeah, it's called Laughing Away The Pain. Something that some people do actually use as a coping mechanism. Plus she's litterally only a scapegoat for everybody who refuses to accept the fact that it's all them, it was always YOU controlling Frisk, it was never Chara, Chara simply watched, CHARA turns EVIL at the end of the Genocide run because YOU taught her to, children learn from experience, like watching what people do. Another thing: do you guys have ANY idea what symptoms the Buttercup poisoning has? I'll list a bit of it: Bloody Diarhea. Painful cramps. Other excruciatingly painful things. She tells Asriel to fight back because she doesn't wanna lose her best friend, you would also want to save them if you were in HER situation. On top of that, her hate for humanity (especially for her village) most likely stems from possible abuse, I mean hell, the only 2 reasons why she could've climbed mount. Ebbott could either be 1:child being dumb. Or 2: suicide.

1:24 - Showing an image of the "Mystery Man" with the title of "W.D. Gaster" simply "doesn't strike me as very accurate". It's not something that's been officially confirmed at this point anyway. (Though he almost certainly is _connected_ to him in some manner at least.) 3:54 - He never actually uses any of the SOULs, he's just naturally strong. (I mean, if he used even _one_ of them at some point, they could've escaped a long time ago. Toriel says as much near the end too.) 4:49 - ..."Gasper"? Come on now, just because he was shattered across time & space doesn't mean you can't get his name right. Have some respect man! 9:32 - Actually it IS possible for her to kill you in that fight. Papyrus is the only 1 incapable of killing you. (There's even a split second reaction from her when it happens before the screen fades.) 10:58 - ..."the garbage dump". How rude! I will not have you insulting his Cool Toolshed like that! (Or "Coolshed" as his good friends call it.) 14:35 - While your description of a "Neutral" route is _technically_ correct, saying that what's listed is needed to go through a True Pacifist route is misleading. Basically, you just need to reach Asgore without killing anyone. Then after fighting him you also fight Flowey (unless you've already fought Flowey & haven't used a True Reset, then it's just Asgore). You could have also befriended Papyrus & Undyne _before_ these fights, but you won't be able to befriend Alphys until _after_ you've beaten Asgore/Flowey and then reloaded your save to before the Asgore fight. I consider the above to be "a" Pacifist route (since you don't actually kill anyone yourself), then by returning to your save and going back to befriend Alphys it becomes a "True" Pacifist route, since it manages to avert the single death that would normally happen at the end.

@@gen6bagel If you mean the Tarot cards, then no it doesn't. They were originally _just fan art,_ which later got permission from Toby to become merch. But if you actually order the cards you'll find that the "Gaster" card is conspicuously _absent from the deck,_ as it was replaced by a Gerson card. (Very... very... interesting.) Toby also stated that none of the merch is considered canon either.

But think about it, why would you try to impress someone? Typically because _you_ like _them_ and probably hope doing so will get _them_ to like _you_ back. (I suppose it could also be to try and make friends, but going for "more than friends" seems pretty likely here.) It's mentioned that she always thought Asgore was "a super cutie" & even called him "Mr. Dreamy" before. Then she also drops that.. "definitely a metaphor" near the end of the Pacifist route: Undyne: _"Come on, ASGORE! It's gonna be OK! There are plenty of fish in the sea..."_ Alphys: _"Y-yeah, ASGORE!! Undyne's totally right about that fish thing!_ _S-sometimes you've just got to, uh... s-stop going after furry boss monsters and, uh..._ _j-just get to know a really cute fish...? ... It's a metaphor."_

Chara’s goal was to free the monsters thinking they deserve to be on the surface as for the pie 🥧 Chara is a child they didn’t know it was poisonous till it was too late when Asriel said “ I should’ve laughed it off like you did” and in the game it is hinted that laughing could be a coping mechanism for pain as Asriel said Chara’s reason for falling in the underground “wasn’t for a very happy reason” there was clues Chara loved the monsters so they wanted to free them by poisoning themselves sacrificing themself Asriel only hesitates due to how much pain Chara was in and when their soul was absorbed Chara only tried to kill all the humans instead of seven because Asriel was dying but lost to Asriel’s will as for Chara not being the greatest person as Asriel had said but it could only mean that Chara was mistreated by humans and only hearing bad things about monsters until they started warming up to monsters which is why they are optimistic in the pacifist route and pessimistic in the no mercy route they are silent during Toriel and Asgores fight but when they were going to kill Asriel/Flowey Chara hesitates until you push them forward to kill him and Chara saying “let’s erase this pointless world” they meant it’s literally is pointless cause there’s no one around anymore Alphys met Undyne after thinking about X_X herself but Undyne talks her out of it and they both started getting 😍 feelings for each other over the time they’ve known each other In the Asriel fight it is Chara who reminds Asriel about his compassion without Chara the happy ending wouldn’t be possible and Asriel will still be in a world without love ❤️

Well on deltarune website u can read that it's a part of undertale franchise, so i guess they must be somewhat connected :p

It is linked but anything in delta, will not affect endings in undertale

the plot and story of this game is incredible, but everytime I hear that sound track I get chills. it is absolutely unfathomable to me that toby fox (along with others) were able to craft a soundtrack packed with so many emotions; so it sucks that the fanbase is one of the most toxic that i've ever seen

there are many plotholes: 6 different humans managed to fall into the underground by accident and no one thought to get a ladder and climb out of the hole? when you leave the underground, alphys says it's even more beautiful than on tv. if they have tv, how have they never communicated to the humans above? mettaton is a robot, it isn't alive, and alphys said she can just make another mettaton, so why has she never built a robot to leave the underground and drag a human back to the underground? if she can design a killer robot she can attach a net and some mufflers to one. stoopid if sans can feel other timelines, just by facial expressions, deja vu etc, why does he only feel them in genocide? if you do genocide 30 times and do pacifist, why does he suddenly not care? but if you do a single pacifist run he still knows in another timeline you used to be his friend before his 2nd phase. I just don't get why he only remembers the good things even though they have less of an effect. ok that's my rant

Sans does not "feel" resets but the monsters figured out that resets are happening. Sans just pays attention to how Frisk acts to guess when resets happen, like between Frisks attempts at killing him at the end of genocide. This also happens in normal playthroughs like when Frisk turns around early the "first" time you meet him. He sees no reason to stop you doing a non-genocide run though.

May be wrong. As in Mettaton's house a diary says "my other cousin is gone" which isn't implying napstablook as he says "other" meaning that this could be implying the mad Dummy. And, who knows, maybe napstablook could've possessed a dummy cause that's a power ghosts have. Napstablook has a low self-esteem so it would make sense that they posses something called a dummy.

It's canon that Mad dummy is Mettaton's cousin, and Napstablook is Mettaton's cousin, so yeah in a way they're all cousins

12:48 Ironically an hour ago i did the hang out with Undyne and i tough i screwed up the pacifist way by burning his house down but i see it was part of it, but i wonder sometimes... isnt sans tired of defeating flowey sometimes a lot?, like everything is just a cycle that flowey repeats over and over
