Pushing through A Realm Reborn it was a very nice story when thinking back I think what slogged it down was the middle contented to get to the next stuff

They have thankfully trimmed down ARR's MSQs so there's less to do. Some dungeons are now no longer part of story, as well as a bunch of text heavy missions. It's much faster than it was.

Even in a 30 min summary, I fell asleep in ARR's story lol

im two years late, but your voice is so awesome and thank you for doing this summary. i played through ARR, but i skipped so many dialogues and cutscenes. so this has helped me understand and appreciate ARR more. i pay attention now that im in heavensward, and im invested in the story now

Ive played every final fantasy fantasy except the online ones. Online mmo's get too hectic for me to keep up. So thanks for the story for us who dont do the multi player thing.

I think it doesn't add much to it's favor when the community just propagates the meme of "oh wait to heavensward, it gets so good at heavensward" when most of the stuff after a realm reborn needs that foundation from it to make sense or even have relevance. Seems the even expansions tend to get the same treatment compared to the odd ones since 2.0 and 4.0 are building the world and narrative vs 3.0 and 5.0 had a conclusion to part of one already established. I have a feeling 6.0 will get the same treatment since on paper, it seems like 2.0 all over again.

This is very true my bf kept saying the same thing but the thing was that Realm Reborn was good it's just the middle content to get to the next stuff was a slog. Cuz I got through it fine and enjoyed it. The more the community keeps pushing that you need to get past it the more people wont enjoy the story for what it is. So I agree alot.

@@devilovesdevil I never found an issue and I played it as it came out. It's just the devs making time and they have improved on it as much as I think they could of without flat out reconning. It's a low point, sure. But they can't do much without reconning at this point.

Thank you for the summary, Pétur. I have adhd and I literally cannot bear to read through the endless text prompts or sit and listen patiently when a cutscene is playing. I really wish I could, but if I forced myself to do so, I would have quit. The only thing that I would like to note is that I personally do not like when the generic masculinum is used (e.g. German or French). It really messes with my ability to identify with the character portrayed. I can tolerate it when I know the language doesn't offer a good neutral alternative, but in English is is very easy to replace singlar personal pronouns with the singular "they" (and insert other prowords whenever it gets too repeating). Apart from that, I loved yout video, especially your narration style and your voice :)

It is really hard for me to get into the story when they throw so many made up (Yes I know all words are made up.) at you, especially with stuff like Assians.

@@BirdsOfPlay At 40+ hours of nonstop fedex delivery jobs and dry unvoiced dialogue I decided to quit while I'm ahead. If the game is not good at 40+ hours its not good at all. I guess I could pay to skip but that would be paying not to play lol. Good video tho. But I still don't know why people say its story is so good. Have these people ever read Dune or watched an anime?

@@R3Dske the first 50 sides of the 500 side book might be hard to read but its needed for worldbuilding and worth grinding through. It gets really good with the first xpac, characters getting fleshed out the story is told better.

@@R3Dske Super late into response but generally people are talking about the later expansions- which don't do that. Fortunately the story team learned their lesson about fetch quests after Realm Reborn. They still exist, but it isn't 30+ hours of it.

Arguably the best story of all FF even though it's a MMO (when you consider the "non story of ff11"... It s quite a paradox). Best gameplay as well, it s the perfect answer to the question turn base or action rpg. But because it s an online game it can not be compared really to the other entries (main character never talks, lot of fetch quests, social aspect of it all, expansions for 10 years).

While it's not always the best with pacing I think it's the best story if you're just trying to be an adventurer
