Thank you so much for explaining the whole Silent Hill franchise. This franchise is so terrifying for good reason. Not only is it psychological horror, it’s so hard to make sense of, which makes it even more terrifying.

You forget a massive ending from silent hill 2 called resurrection, so James takes Mary's body in a nearby island after you collect some strange items through the game so you perform a ritual and revive her!

I think the ending where James dies in SH2 is the canon ending since in SH4 Henry comments that the superintendent's son and daughter in law went missing in Silent Hill. And since the super is James' father we can be sure that James died and his father never saw him again.

Travis is basically Charon, that's why. Its implied in Downpour that there are entities in SH that are stuck there, like The Mailman who is friendly. Same goes for Travis.

Really amazing job, well done. It's been a lot of years since the last time i played Silent Hill 1 to 4, so this video brought me back some memories.

I love this franchise but I dont understand it sometimes... sometimes its a PHYCOLOGICAL SURVIVAL HORROR, then it turns into TEMPLE RUN...

How can Silent Hill 1 be set in 1983 if we find "since 1987" written on a sign in a downtown shop? It's clear that the first SH is set in the 90s (i.e. when the game came out), the backdating to the 80s was an invention of the Homecoming devs

That also wouldn't make sense, given SH2 mentions Sullivan, by name, whose killings were active in the early 2000s, so it being set in 1993 OR the mid 70s doesn't make sense either

I just always assumed they were set in contemporary times, minus Origins for obvious reasons. Though it did always strike me as weird that James is wearing a jacket that was in use during the Korean War/Vietnam war

@@SSD_Penumbra the style of all SH characters is vintage, it must recall those films that the series is inspired by, so James's jacket does not imply that it is set in the 70s. In my opinion the mess is all to be attributed to Konami who after the dissolution of Team Silent necessarily wanted to impose a chronology, a detail that for the devs has never been important to the plot, the stories already have a classic style outside of a precise time

You missed the rebirth ending for silent hill 2 which is The darkest and my favorite one when James collect all the items necessary to bring Mary back to life also in silent hill 4 theres a letter of the superintendent sunderland which seems to be James father and he mentioned that he had a son but he disappeared so James never escaped silent hill and makes the in water ending more cannon.

I think the superintendt is the father of Mary i remember (maybe i am wrong) that he says that he send a detective to sh, to find them and if i am not mistaken is the same detective Heather meets in sh3 and he says that he was once in sh because he was searching for a woman, or maybe i am remembering it wrong

That's James' dad. Mary may have been in the hospital in SH4 too.

Fun fact: Silent Hill (Movie) is based off of an abandoned coal mining community in Pennsylvania. The entire town had a large underground mine that was set on fire, causing numerous explosions and deaths. The fire is still burning today, and it causes smoke to rise up from the ground (Like Silent Hill’s fog). It’s called Centralia.

It can end up hurting the series when developers misinterpret the lore/otherworld because of fans that unintentionally spread false information. The original vision will get lost (Like how we see with ascension, i.e. ash instead of snow) if we dont carefully try to preserve it.

this needs to be the next collection Konami should do, except i would remaster the original games 1 - 4. why the originals, because everyone knows how awful the Silent Hill HD collection was. so what i would do is, remaster Silent Hill, 1, 2, 3, and 4. since there remaking Silent Hill 2, why not bring all 4 of the original Team Silent games back.

What about the old gods ending of Silent Hill 2?

I like that, not a elit soldiers, return soldiers or any retired elit special forces that know how to handle dangerous situation, it just a normal lorry driver who tried to survive

You forgot to mention that the landlord in SH4 is possibly James Sunderland’s dad a they share the same last name.

In a way I see SH2 as a really early soft reboot(stand alone title)

I thought Silent Hill was set in 1986 since Origins is 1979 if Cheryl is 7 that take it to 1986, also I think SH3 is 2003 since its 17 years after 1986.

the only date that appears in the saga is the sign of a shop in SH1 that says "since 1987", so it cannot be set in 1983 or 1986. probably the most likely date is that of the game's release, i.e. second half of the 90s

Silent hill 2 was a sequel to both SH 1 and 3. This timeline is fked Silent hill 1-4 most accurate true to self identity. There’s never a specific date in the “Japanese” made games (purposefully) Do not trust whatever other creators make or even the old SH guides Origins and homecoming don’t even bother with those. Silent hill shattered memories, great reimagining. But terrible gameplay Downpour, good story honestly

I'm aorry but I wouldn't consider Silent Hill Origins as canon because it doesn't make sense at all. There are mentions from SH 1, but... It's very messy... Team Silent knew how to pull the strings of the story and how to make the plot make sense, but no telling you in the face "hey, this is what happend".
