    Abe wasn't the best dad but he stayed and took care of Homer. I understand that Mona tried to be a good person but underneath it all she wasn't. She willingly sacrificed her son and by extension her family for something stupid. Abe gave Homer everything he had, if it wasn't for him Homer would've never got his first home and had the foundation needed to raise his kids. Even went above and beyond for his grandkids and Marge every chance he got. Even in death she used her son for a final hippie protest. Abe deserves a lot more credit.

    To be honest, there's still a lot about Mona Simpson I truly don't like. Getting wooed by sideburns shouldn't be the inspiration to leave the family, but she did do great good while keeping Homer safe in her own way. It's weird! Personally, I blame the writers. It was clear they wanted to make her more sympathetic in later seasons; yet, by showing she was constantly arguing with Abe, cheating on him ( apparently before the 2 hippies) and used Homer to have her ashes stop another scheme....it kinda puts a bad taste in my mouth. Abe, by no means is a saint, but he did genuinely love Homer by trying to shield him from his mother being a wanted criminal...not to mention giving up his 2nd marriage and even selling his house for Homers Family. Sad Mona never got to know that.

    It was a race to the finish line and your mother had her foot out the door. Mona was a big hypocrite, she didn't want to hurt people but didn't really try very hard to protect them either. She left Homer behind with Abe thinking she would only be a burden but she could have took him with her. Why stop to help mister burns when he fell. She didn't want death to be on her for her hippie agenda. Abe is no Saint but Abe had a trouble past. War heros usually do, they don't show love because they seen hell on earth. He may have been mean but it was his own way to show how hard the world is. As opposed to Mona that could only show her a bit of love as a mom but still cared more about herself. She cared about the world instead of her child. It was selfish, she wanted her cake and eat it too. She slept around in the name of making a better world. And even after death she still needed to use Homer for a hippie thing. Mona is terrible, disguise as innocent lady only trying to do good but pointing it out about her only shows the men around her being petty.

    Abraham wasn´t the best man ever, but that doesn´t changed that she used her familly for her own benefit and didn´t cared about the damage she inflicted in her son, because so far I see that all of Homer defects are from her mother absence or manipulation

  • @etarver13

    @etarver13

    I don’t see her using her family besides her using Homer to spread her ashes to stop nuclear waste going to the Amazon forest. Her problem was ,when it comes to Abe, that she doesn’t want to be a wife (and especially a housewife), and while I think she cared about Homer, she’s too obsessed with her identity (which is being a radical hippie) to truly consider him. As for Homer’s defects, the only things that affected Homer from her negligence and absence is that he developed an eating disorder (which he refused to fix) and his insecurities. According to show, the rest of his defects stem from his pea size brain, his unusual brain and fluid makeup, the Simpson’s gene, and that crayon that he inserted into his brain. But if you look beyond the inconsistent show, his true cause of his defects is his extreme flanderization. Back in season 1, he wasn’t food obsessed, lazy, abusive, idiot we see today. He had balance, limits, and was more family oriented than Marge.

    The Simpsons Timeline is all sorts of messed up. I worked like in the 90’s, but today nothing makes sense anymore. Abraham Simpson would be over 100 years old and Homer would be well over 60. Bart, Lisa and Maggie were kids for the last 30+ years. Homer was literally born in the (baby) boomer generation. I think they should do a full-fledged, canonical spin-off series where B, L & M are adults have children of their own

  • @DancingAndDreaming

    @DancingAndDreaming

    Жыл бұрын

    The timeline is a bit of a headache, yes. Looking at the ages and counting from today, Bart would be born in 2012 and Homer and Marge would be 80s kids. Which means Abe would have to have been in - Vietnam, I guess? But definitely not WW2. It might have been better if they made the characters age from the beginning. By now, Homer's and Marge's grandkids would probably be our protagonists! Or they should've given the characters backstories that didn't tie them to specific historical periods like the Hippie era.

    I feel bad for Mona, but let's be honest, she WAS a pretty lousy mother. Abe was no better, don't get me wrong, but his behavior could have been due to untreated PTSD from WWII which would explain his treatment towards Homer. And at least he tried to be a better parent to Homer. What's Mona's excuse for neglecting her son?! Hippie-dippy BS?! I know she's a loving mother overall, but she could have done things a LOT differently than becoming a stupid radical, which would also lead to her then becoming a wanted fugitive! I've asked it before and I'll ask it again whenever hippies are around: WHERE'S CARTMAN WHEN YA NEED HIM?!

    Jesus, Mona is like a combination of my parents. My mom was always so kind and looking out for me, while my dad might’ve been good in areas, he had issues and would leave me and my family and wouldn’t return until years later until leaving for good. I had a lot of hatred towards my father and never wanted to see him again because he caused a lot of personal problems towards my family, and my anger was pretty much at its breaking point…. that’s until I lost my father from the virus and all the hate I had simply left out of my body. Then a year later (last year), my mom died from the virus as well. I won’t lie that it’s been hard trying to keep it together because I’m always scared at night and I cry from time to time, my mom’s death really hurt me a lot and it’s a tiny bit difficult to keep a happy face. I miss them both, but I miss my mom more.

    Something I don't like about the simpsons and one of my reasons why I left the series is that they always romanticize, change and rewrite things all the time at least this doesn't happen in futuroma, family guy, american dad and PRIMAL. Regarding Mona always It seemed very strange to me that knowing what her husband was like, he never took his son away to start over, to be able to live in peace and not continue getting into trouble, I say it would have been easier instead of abandoning his son and thus continue with the protests but without causing problems

    I think it’s best to consider “new” retconned canon to be essentially non-canon. I mean, every time a superhero franchise reboots we get a new and slightly modified origin story, and while the Simpsons hasn’t actually rebooted, after 30 years some stories just have to be retold. Shit, I’m 29 so old canon is still canon to me, but I don’t expect a 15 year old now to know 90’s episodes of The Simpsons.

    When you connect it, it kind of makes sense why Homer is the way he is as a father an imperfect husband. from his own divided parents as a kid. Yet he seems to show more so than his dad that he does care for his kids and loves Marge. Even though they fight, their marriage is ccomparatively better.

    I never understood why mona went on the run for basically 90% of homers life. She said in one scene it was to protect Homer because she was wanted. But that meant that Homer never got to see her again till he was 39/40 yrs old. Whereas if she had just stayed and done her time she probably would have only gotten like, what 10yrs at most or something. So surely that should have made more sense for her to do. (I know it’s a cartoon but still) I’ve been watching the Simpsons my entire life, I’m praying they never stop lol also me an homer have the same birthday an it first aired when I was 2 so I feel like I was always meant to love the Simpsons as much as I do haha 😆

    do you ever think the Simpsons would benefit from a reboot? just start off a new season with the explicit purpose of starting a new canon and the let the older seasons remain as they are and let it be?

    19:00 My theory for the retcon is that Homer and Abe forgot about that trip (largely due to the former's alcoholism and tendancy to experience severe head injuries and the latter's senility), and at some point after Mona's real death, he recalled such a trip (possibly through a trigger). Remember, that he (again due to his alcholism and head injuries) forgot that he briefly had a lounge singer (named Rita Lafleur) for a step-mother. And as for the time Mona visited Homer for Bart's birth, Homer most likely thought that was a dream, until he find out that she was alive the entire time. This is just a theory of course.

    Great job! I too hated the "Mothers and Other Strangers" retcon of Mona's established backstory (and Al Jean of all people wrote that episode). Ever since she left when Homer was 12, he always believed Abe's lie that she was dead. That's the reason why he struggled so much to forgive her.

    I haven't always been a big fan of the Simpsons, but I always seem to enjoy two types of episodes: 1. Every Treehouse of Horror, and 2. Any episode that features Mona. She may not have been the best mother, but she loved Homer more than life itself. As someone whose mom's love is similar, seeing Mona around her son gives me a warm and nostalgic feel.

I didn't realize how much arguing they did with one another and how both neglected him or at least didn't spend much time with him. Also the clips with Mona and Homer reminded me that they had some wonderful moments together. I really wish Homer and Mona had more time together 😢

    Dear Simpson Theory, (Sorry if you have already said this in another video) I believe that Bernie Gumbel is Nelson’s Dad because 1. Why does Bernie spend so much time at Moe’s ? I mean yes he’s an alcoholic but what if he’s hiding from something or… someone. And in the episode “ Mommie Beerest , not Bart, not Lisa but Nelson was there when Moe’s is shutdown. This n means that he must have a connection to Moe’s in someway … maybe Bernie. If you were to compare images of Nelson and Bernie (especially when Bernie was a child) , you’d find that they look similar in a way. Which could suggest that they are related.
