In regards to them showing respect for Po due to freeing them and their fellow Kung Fu masters from the Chameleon's grasp towards the end of Kung Fu Panda 4, co-director Stephanie Ma Stine stated that Shen and Kai aren't redeemed. They just show respect to Po and nothing else with no remorse for their actions, thus somewhat remaining bad in the end since they're way worse and irredeemable than Tai Lung.

Legend of Awesome has officially been declared not Canon by the fourth movie's director. The movie itself has evidence or this, including Oogway's tree being still alive when It hss been destroyed in the series and Po mentiong that the Urn of Whispering Warriors has been destroyed only two times, when it would be three if you count the series. This Is in additiction of the third movie having Po learn Chi again despite already doing this in Legend of Awesome. Same goes from Pawn of Destiny and Dragon Knight wich have even more blatant evidences. Only the movies and shorts are canon.
