The name "Auto repair" has the meaning that when you press the button the building repairs itself without any other help. For example in some RTS games only settlers can repair Buildings. There is no autorepair in it. Thats why its called "Autorepair".

@@AussieDrongo There is a unnoticed button on keyboard left of 1 It type following '~' or ` . I use that on explorer. Good thing is that it never gets unassigned like control groups. Its particularly useful with explorer dependet civs like natives and asian civs

@@AussieDrongo I have a question for the attack hotkey. When i say its F for example and try it , it does nothing. They shoot but only one guy and not like in your example on more enemies. They dont shoot immediatly either. I most of the time have to click one guy that they attack immediatly. The Hotkey isnt really working for me, and i dont know why. I checked it taht it is the right thing in the options what you showed and what i want to change.

Something that you didn't mention and might not be trivial for everyone: When you are making units with a hotkey, holding shift will make a group of that unit instantly (5 of them). So you don't have to press the key 5 times.

I actually use the "Find all town centers" hotkey as it automatically selects all TCs without snapping anywhere. This is great as it works from the start of the game and you never have to add a TC to the group.

I love how a lot of your videos aren't only relevant today or the next week, but will remain relevant for the game's lifespan.

But it's still sort of true. I feel like Drongo's videos tend to be a bit longer than they could be... :-/ The patch notes rundown video for the latest game update was for instance 40 minutes long! Even though I still liked the video to support the channel, I didn't watch it because it was too big of a time investment. @Aussie_Drongo, perhaps you could try to be slightly more concise in the future? :-) (SotL videos for AoE II are usually somewhere between 5 and 15 minutes).

@@aoe2and3fan not really true, looking at his channel, most videos are under 15 minutes and only a few are over 30. I feel like there is a good balance between shorter videos showcasing a certain build and longer videos on topics that benefit from being more in depth and therefore naturally longed because of that. if you feel like watching a 40 minute in depth patch notes video is too big of a time investment, then there are probably other people who sum it up into a shorter video

@@AussieDrongo I tried it already and I'm getting used to it faster than I thought. Question though. Do you use only 4 hotkeys for unit control groups? The unit control is probably the only piece of the puzzle i need to figure out.

I guess you missed it, but there's a separate hotkey option for Find All Idle Villagers, you can just set it to shift+tilde or whatever you're using for find all idle villagers.

The two main things that I do differently are that I have idle villagers on a thumb button on my mouse, and I use "h" for town centre. TCs are important enough that it needs to be super easy to reach, and h is really easy. Plus it makes the muscle memory the same as for Age 1 and Age 2.

Someone who is actually making useful tutorials. Great way to get new players invested in the game. I like watching the Age of Stream Community and Samurai Revolution for the gameplay but they don't really come out with stuff to help make it easier for new players to get started.

@@Diego000793 I have noticed that attack move around buildings = units do not move at all :/

I want to mention that attack move hotkey isn't necessarily needed, there exist a function in aoe3 that does the same: moving the units clicking ALT button will make them move like if you had used attack move.

I would suggest changing the ctrl groups 6-9 (nice) to f1-f4 that way you can assign more control groups and make f1 as the all town centre key, but you'd have to change the Home City hotkey though to something like tab

This is a friendly reminder that left handed people exist and we all use custom hotkeys. It's actually quite uncomfortable to put my right hand on the WASD side of the keyboard, not without shoving the entire thing halfway across my desk, so I remap everything to the right side instead.

I usually press "." like this dot. And if you hit cntrol+shift+. it still gather all the idles villagers at the same time

I personally use a mouse button to select ALL idle villagers, press space to find them, then and assign them to a task. The only problem could be that you select multiple vils far away from each others. and assign them to the same task, causing one or multiples vils to walk a long way. But it rarely happens in practice, as long as you don't let your vils idle for too long. Wish they bring back the shift-click though, or better, make it an hotkey so we don't have to click. Also shift-click to select food/wood/coin gatherers doesn't work anymore too... I used to do that a lot to transfer a batch of woodcutters to mills/plantations in late game.

They should add an option to add these 'Find Unit' hotkeys to an options menu in game. I didn't even know half of those hotkeys existed like finding your barracks or church with one and it'd be nice if there was a choice between pressing the button on your keyboard or clicking a "Find X" button from a dropdown menu or side panel. You could say that it would take up too much screen space, but compared to the legacy UI, there's a lot of spots on the screen that could fit such a menu in.

Naked fast industrial can be really powerful I would never try it in a 1v1 but in a team game it can be really powerful if your opponent isn’t expecting it

i have attack move on space...you cannot missclick with a botton this large :P I also find attack move to not work every time for some reason. This guide was very useful and maybe the most important of the once you made so far !

Soooo i'm a big fan of being able to move the camera with the arrow keys, how do I set it to move with WASD but on default, when I set it it won't override the conflicts... I feel so stiff not being able to move the camera and I can't get used to moving it with the mouse...

FYI, there is an option to select all idle villagers. It's in the same menu as the select idle villager. Default key is shift + ctrl + ~ and alternate is shift + . Rebinding it to shift + ~ doesnt give any problems to me.

Did anybody find the hotkey „select all of the currently selected unit/building“ ? I find it a very usefull hotkey for example to get all the cav spread on the map to one point by just klicking at one cav and hit the hotkey...

I want to set my hot keys but when I click the reset button nothing happens, it won’t allow me to change. What is the mechanic to switch the hot keys? In aoe2 you just click on top of it then click reset and change to whatever you want to. Thanks for all your content, I am learning a lot 😀👍

Hey Aussie! Quality content as always :) I was ~PR 22 in Vanilla, and am hoping to do better in DE! I was wondering if you could make a guide on when one should transition into mills and estates? I feel like I'm doing this too early (~50 vills), but it takes a lot of the focus off finding new hunts and mines and makes it harder to be raided. Of course, it's slower - so at how many vills should I start thinking about doing this?

If you have a gaming mouse, then what shortcuts do you think the most useful to assign to them?

I'm left handed... It's odd to assume that left handed people swap their keyboard and mouse hands.. It doesn't work like that, mice are almost always right handed and if you attempt to switch the spots of the keyboard and mouse you're not gonna be able to do much comfortably. Edit: I know there are left handed keyboards and mice out there, but with only about ~10% of people in the world being left handed, it's not like they sell those on the shelves at Walmart or Best Buy so most people like myself will adapt to using their right hands for mouse movement. I can write with my left hand, but I can't trace a straight line with it using a mouse like I can with my right and vice versa for the mouse on my right hand.

What about camera control hotkeys? I like using wasd, but I think it would cause conflict with this set of hotkeys. I find using the arrows awkward if you're right handed like me (right hand in mouse, left hand in keyboard)

how did you spam the buildings? like just by clicking on the map and how can you change the direction of the building facing ?

hey, I'm really a noob in multiplayer and especially with playing with keybinds. I would like to ask if there is a way to separate quickly 2 kinds of units from 1 group. When playing as Aztecs I use vills to help spawn priests on the community plaza. When I have 10 priests I'd like to separate vills and send them back to resource gathering but I don't know how to do it in the fastest way possible. Any idea, please?

How do you get all the little tags at the top of the screen? For me it only shows the idle villager tag and I was wondering if theres a setting or something somewhere that also shows the military buildings and all that

I'm used to scroll up for idle villagers and scroll down for idle millitary from aoe2 but for some reason it won't let me assign that in aoe3de.

Pinky on control, ring finger on a, middle finger on w, pointer on d, thumb on space. palm sits at base of keyboard and rarely moves unless im using the hotkey for the church lol (control + Y)

What is the hotkey for sending your scout on a marathon? I dont know how to explain it Samurai Revolution always does it. Like doing various commands at once and the scout goes from one location to the next without having to select the scout again to move

Azerty and Qwertz users are discriminated again with this default set-up. Had to go through all hotkeys manually to fix them. Maybe there'll be a mod one day! I remember not being able to navigate a game with WASD since that would be like ZQSD for Qwerty users... and no way to change!! 2007 woes
