Brilliant video. Brought back so many memories of my very happy childhood, collecting Star Wars figures. As kids, we never truly appreciated the incredible attention to detail of those figures when we bought them.

Heya! You got your Ewok’s well mixed up!? And the A-Wing Pilot is a completely different sculpt to the B-Wing??? And R2’s popup lightsaber is not spring loaded? The sculpt has a contoured interior so that when the head is turned the sabre pops up?

Amazing video, congratulation for the work done! Luke Bespin Fatigues was also my favorite figure as a kid. This particular figure was pretty hard to find back in the days in France and a Friend of my Dad sent it from Canada in summer 1981 and I was holding it in my pocket every day during my childhood. Kenner toy line has such an influence on millions of kids around the world, so many great souvenirs connected to them!

Oh, the nostalgia is strong with this one. Great video, with good level of detail. Bought a tear to my eye remembering the day in about 1985 I lent my 30 Star Wars figures to my "friend", and never got them back :(

I really enjoyed this. I can remember like it was yesterday where I got each and every figure I had. I gave my little brother my figures when I grew out of them. The last few years I have been re collecting them and have just 3 more to go before I get the full set. The love I have for these toys is still so strong. Other toy lines came and went but Star Wars was my childhood.

My dad has a ton of these figures that used to be in box but a neighbor opened them all. Still it’s super cool that he has all these Kenner toys

I'm crying right now! So many memories! I used to buy the POTF figures back in 1987 in the stores. In 1988 they were all gone from the stores. I was very sad.

Absolutely!! Fabulous!! Had me really reminiscing about my childhood and my Star Wars collection I am 52 brought back so many great memories looking at this video birthdays, Christmas as well There was nothing like getting a Star Wars figure in your hand going to Toys “R” Us or Lionel kiddie city There was nothing like it. And that last 17 Really gut wrenching for me I Obtain four, Ev-9D9 , Warok , luke skywalker with poncho , and Imperial gunner. They are still crispy fresh 37 years to be exact Still have the weapons they haven’t yellow or anything . I remember my mother was calling different toy stores for those last 17 And before you know it disappeared we couldn’t find them anywhere I was so sad still am to this day . My total collection of Star Wars figures It’s not a lot compared to some collectors 346 to be exact . I have 100 of the vintage from back in the 70s and 80s in fabulous condition I have all the weapons. I took care of my collection back then and I had four other brothers I love Star Wars so passionately back then . I remember whole heartedly Summer break We would be Outside playing with our friends. Back in the 80s it was a great time to be a kid. If it was too hot outside we will go straight to the house to the basement that’s Where our Star Wars world dwelled . We would be in our basement for hours In our old world. Only time we came up was for lunch and dinner And we will go straight back into the basement To finish playing with our collection . I miss those days Star Wars Ruled . I still collect . Love the video. But you know Kids of today Too many of them don’t know what it is to be a kid and it’s so sad these kids missed a great era That we had. Toys were like the peace pipe they really were Meaning you could have other friends join in and play Miss those days truly.😞😞

This was a fantastic video! Really well done, and the videography on your figures was super tight. I could see stray hairs sticking off a few figures the clarity was so good. Sometimes it's easy to forget how detailed these sculpts really were when we just look at the figure from a few feet away behind glass. Getting those close-ups helped me appreciate them even more. One bit of feedback from me, and opinions will surely differ. But Star Wars vintage toys take me back to my childhood when life was simpler and happier. Your frequent talk of "another white guy" took me out of my nostalgia and thrust politics and race back into my mind which ruined a few figure discussions for me. I enjoy the few moments I get these days where racial issues are not being shoved down my throat. Other than that, I'm definitely going to pull this up again and look over my own collection as I watch it. Thanks.

I couldn't agree more. The video was awesome and I think everything was done quite well. I didn't care for the "another old white guy," referral. It seems white males are okay to poke fun at today. I doubt the same reference would have been made about a black man. Why make it about race at all? With that being said, that is the only criticism I could muster on this well done video. It made me want to pull out all my figures from my youth, take inventory, and see what I still possess 40+ years later. I can't believe I had a couple of blue Snaffle Tooth characters and traded them for storm troopers. Oh well, at least I saved one of them.

I was smiling the whole time I watched this video. I also looked over my shoulder at the few action figures I have sitting on my shelf in my home office. I grew up in the country with a five year older brother that had no interest in Star Wars and the only time I can remember going to another kid's house and playing was going to my friend from church, Steve, who had more Star Wars toys than I did. He had a Revenge toy which was crazy cool. In 1998 the second generation of Star Wars collectors was born into my family and rather than going to the stores and buying all new toys for my son, I went to a collector's store and bought older figures that were in the boxes and new toys. My son was and is a Lego guy. I wasn't but he got a Slave 1 Lego for My birthday because my wife had balked at getting him another Lego so I got it for "me." His first movie was Attack of the Clones. When he was at the University of Virginia, his Christmas break was guaranteed to include a new Star Wars release if there was one. He is engaged now and I am waiting patiently for the third generation of Star Wars fan. NO pressure son and future daughter-in-law. May the Force be with You! I REALLY WANT TO FIND THOSE STANDS!

I saw Star Wars when I was 14 years old. I had a paper route in northern IL. You may have heard of it from the TV show MASH called the Daily Panagraph. Anyway I always had a large box of rubber bands handy. My younger brother and I would set up "forts" in our gravel driveway, fly our star ships and "shoot" the rubber bands to simulate lazer blasts. We spent hours upon hours playing with our cherished Star Wars toys. Sadly while I was away at my first year of college (Illinois State University) my parents decided to move to Texas. My Dad and his brother had the task of loading the U-haul and after many beers they took a short cut and threw all of the Star Wars toys in the trash dumpster, my mom later confirmed. Today, I am restoring the old collection, painstakenly. and hopefully better that before.

I remember working at Fox Studios during the eighties, the studio store always had a ton of figures for sale. At the end, when the sales began to wane, they packed up the remaining cases of toys and hid them in a shed. Awhile later a friend who was working in the transportation dept came to our office with an armload of case fresh figures, knowing that I collected them. Apparently he got them as they were dumping the cases of minty figures in the trash. Made me want to cry...

I can remember getting the Cantina playset from Sears as a kid. It had the Snaggletooth figure in a blue suit and not the red, plus the Sears Snaggletooth was much taller than the regular version. WHY I didn't hang on to these is one of my biggest mistakes! Well they were given away by my Mom if I remember correctly. However it happened I had a collection that was pretty big. My first two figures were C3PO & R2-D2. Then Luke and Vader. I got the Landspeeder for the first "ship". Then my X-Wing and Tie Fighter was next. For Christmas I was given a choice. Either I could have the Millennium Falcon ship, or I could have the Imperial Death Star playset, not both. I got the Death Star. The little trash compactor, with the little monster with one 👁 eye 👁 was included. It was a really cool set and it easily gave me hours and hours and hours of playtime and adventures with my figures. What I really loved however was the amount of characters and the immense amount and differences of them all. You could go anywhere that your imagination took you. You could create new worlds, new people with other oddball figures. I remember making my own addition to my Hoth Playset made out of Styrofoam. I had dug out turrets, places for my Rebel Soldiers. The one drawback, I never was able to get the AT-AT Imperial walker. But again as a kid you could easily imagine another scenario. These little figures weren't crazy priced. You were able to use you allowance, extra money from shoveling snow, raking leaves, or mowing lawns, or back then cutting grass with a human powered mower. Meaning YOU pushed it and it cut. No engine. Plus they were small enough that you could take them with you to the Drive-in Theater or?? Big problem with that? Losing the weapons! Those were some really great days, and some wonderful memories. I also grew up with the Mego Superheroes action figures as well as the Planet of the Apes action figures as well. Such a cool time! I really miss it!

THIS is by far the best video about the figures. Wow I am a huge fan of these and own a lot of originals, and actively collecting. I am incredibly fascinated by these and so passionate about them and Star Wars and this was such a great video. Thank you for this information! Really great job.

Apart from misidentifying all but one of the Ewok figures (which, admittedly, may have been deliberate) and not bringing up the 'Original Lando' variation that has teeth, the fact that 'brown snake Yoda' also had darker skin than 'orange snake Yoda,' or Zuckuss' and 4-LOM's names being mistakenly switched around, I would agree.

Being a lonely only child, latchkey kid in the late 70s to the mid 80s,, Star Wars action figures were my everything. They were like friends and family to me and my friends. Having a very good imagination my friends and I nerded out to no end. We all lived on the same street. There was 4 of us. I would fly Han and Chewieover to one friend's house in the Falcon like they were going light speed to another system. So much fun

This is a fantastic video and as an 80s kid, I really enjoyed it. You seem so knowledgeable yet got almost every Ewok wrong ( on purpose I think 😅) I never knew anything about the Clone concept figures though. It's cool to keep finding out new information about the Kenner days.

Great video! I think your history of Blue Snaggletooth may be a little off though. From drawings/info on The Star Wars Collectors Archive website, the initial design for Blue Snaggletooth was created early 1978. The "Cantina Creatures" were designed using only head shots of costumes, which is why they made Blue Snaggletooth tall (he is tall in the film by the way). However, the Holiday Special (Nov '78) depicted Snaggletooth as short and wearing a red costume. So, the figure was quickly changed to match the picture for the card art of Red Snaggletooth that was released in 1979.

Prune face is a hilarious name he looks exactly like a prune!! 😂😂 I love the names like Hammerhead, squidface etc. We got so many cool aliens!! Droopy McCool is also hilarious!! 🤣🤣🤣🤠👍 Person who made all these names in Star Wars is an all time legend & deserves a bonus $$$ Skywalker what a classic name!!

@@CarbonScoring And the kicker was I was trying to justify paying like $1 / $2 back then to buy such an ugly and uncool figure. I did buy one, and still have it with the weapon as well and coin. A few years later they were selling star wars figures in show bags as well around 1989 - 1990 at my local yearly show too. I bought a heap then as well. it was something silly like 5 figures for $6 a bag.

Very well done. I enjoyed that. More Star Wars please. Well you covered most of it haha. Maybe the vehicles.

The POTF figures are definitely part of the collection, I don't understand why anyone would question that.... they were all characters from the movie, Kenner just upgraded the packaging finally

You produced a very well-done video. I am envious of the resolution of your camera. You also gave some interesting facts that I had never heard of or realized. I have read about some stuff on the 1986 line, but I have not seen all of the photos. I am down to two POTF figures - R2 w/ lightsaber and Yak Face. It is hard to justify spending hundreds of dollars on a small piece of plastic....

I sent away for Boba Fett and it took so long to arrive I had forgotten. What I got was a plain brown cardboard box (if memory serves) and being a kid I never got mail so that was an event in itself. I opened it to find this really cool figure but had no idea what it was.

TG&Y! Turtles Girdles and Yo Yos! That's what some of us kids said it stood for anyway. :) C3PO and R2D2 were my favorite Star Wars figures. My first ones I ever got and I still have them on my desk. FX-7 and 2-1B are my favorite Empire Strikes Back figures and characters. So very cool especially for characters who weren't main heroes. Yoda is super awesome too, but I was already in love with robots as a four-year-old before Star Wars ever came out, so they were my favorites. The bounty hunters are super cool characters and action figures. We kids loved them. I still have all of my removeable limbs C3PO as well as the net. It got torn a little bit years ago, but I fixed it with black electrical tape. I loved the action figures! I had vision problems when I was a little kid, so when I saw the first Star Wars movie, it was at a drive in theater and was blurry to my eyes. When I got the action figures, I finally got a good look at them and loved how cool they were. Didn't properly hear or see the first Star Wars movie until it finally came out on VHS. Luke started in a white tunic to symbolize his innocence. Went to brown to show a transition and it makes sense that he'd wear khakis to do his training. He wears black in the Return of the Jedi to symbolize his maturity and his increased risk of falling to the dark side. Yeah, that Cargo Handler is super awesome! I sure wish they would have made that. Very nice mini-documentary here! Thanks!

I remember the day my dad took me to see Jedi at the Coronet in San Francisco. 1983. Thing is I was 11.5 years old when Jedi released and had moved on to collecting old radio shows from the 1930’s-50’s. By age 11.5 I’d left action figures behind. That was 5th grade and life was all about theater of the mind and Dungeons & Dragons. So I never bought a single Jedi action figure or play set. Had Jedi released just 1 year earlier in the summer of 1982 I would have rich memories of playing with Jedi toys right alongside Empire & A New Hope. The day we went to see Jedi we first journeyed to our local Payless where dad bought me a cassette of Inner Sanctum Mysteries. “Murderer at Midnight “ is the episode & I still have the cassette 41 years later. Sadly not a single Star Wars toy survived the near annual moves we made through the 80’s

Kenner had a lucrative 6 Million Dollar Man toy line that was a best seller! When the show was canceled, they needed to fill the void... enter Star Wars. The size of the figures was influenced more by the Fisher Price Adventure People line than anything else, to better sell reasonably sized vehicles and playsets. Great video!

With hindsight, the double telescopic lightsaber would have made far more sense than what we got. It ignites from his hand and then gets thinner and thinner as is reaches its tip. When you lose the middle part of the telescopic feature is is just a thick blade with a much thinner tip added. The later hand held lightsabres were more straightforward and accurate, but I've never realised how ingenious those originals were in the way they replicated the lightsaber lighting up. Much better than simply holding a yellow, or green stick.

I currently found my Star Wars toys (40 figures with accessories and back cards + a set of ships with original boxes ... all bought in between 1979-1982). I also have an Oscar movie poster from then 1970´s. It will take some time to get a decent market value for these items!

I just found out that the X Wing pilot Luke's visor is down... watching this video! I also thought that was his hair, for all of these years! I just started to collect vintage Star Wars figures for the first time since childhood. I don't have any of my childhood originals, but, I've scored over sixty figures, some playsets and vehicles online over the last few days. This video was awesome to watch!

Great video overall. Just watched your video. The final R2 that I had didn't launch the lightsaber. The lightsaber was more of a green club that would raise and lower when R2's head was turned. The lightsaber was never meant to be taken out or R2. As mentioned the Ewoks are a little off. Chief Chirpa was solid medium brown with a 'rubber' hood & staff and Logray was brownish and white striped with skull 'helmet' & staff. My original TIE Fighter pilot had a 'Bespin' gun.

I lived in rural Ireland and in the late eighties my local pound shop(discount store) got a load of original empire and Jedi figures , I spent every bit of money I had buying all these figures, the owner even gave a few freebies .

When kenner discontinued the line and got rid of their star wars figures stock, I can tell you where some of them went. To Spain in Europe. For me as a child these figures were not cheap in Spain, and I was astounded when one day I saw on a supermarket store that Colgate (the tooth paste company) had decided to include a kenner star wars figure inside the boxes of one of their tooth paste flavors!! You could actually see what figure was inside, and this is how I got my jakface among others. The only negative was that you got the figure alone, without the corresponding accessory, that they did not include probably for practical or children protection reasons.

We had the same in Germany. Some figures were added in comic magazines but with different weapons from another toy line...

I was thinking of doing the card-back background for my figures like that but I think I'm going to do mirror so you can see the backside of them as well as the front.

Everyone claims Yakface wasn't sold in the US, but that's not quite true. I live in Boston, and I can remember the day my father came home from work with the figure. Someone once told me they believe it was because KB Toys in the area would get some of the overstock from Canadian stores, and that's how I ended up with it. I don't know of that's true or not, but I can tell you this: I still have the figure and it was bought in the US

Funny how the poster shows variations of some figures, but not others? For instance, the Ugnaught apron blue or purple, obviously a dye change, but not a sculpt change. But Han big head/small head is definitely a sculpt change and not included on the poster. Another of my favorites is the Snowtrooper, he can have either goggles or glasses (one piece or two piece eye covering). Biker Scout had variations on the mouth piece, these are all sculpt changes. Because Han in Tenchcoat had the camo variation is like a paint color change. Nothing major but it's on the poster. I have Luke Farmboy and Bespin with both blonde and brown hair. No big deal because it's just a paint change. Ben also came in grey or white hair. Leia Bespin with gold collar or flesh collar (sometimes referred to as turtle neck or V-neck), IG-88 in grey or silver, Luke Jedi with a green or blue lightsaber, Lando with or without a smile. The list of color changes goes on and on, (and some are extremely minor) but sculpt changes are not by accident. Yet not included in the official poster of figures? WTF

Real talk. When I was a kid my cousin had the Mattel Colonial Viper toy. My stupid ass did a Death Star trench run and fired a bullseye into my mouth. The missile bounced off the back of my throat and back into my mouth so it didn't get stuck thank God. I remember at that very moment thinking "Wow that was really stupid." This was well before I'd ever heard about the kid who died from that.

Nice video! You had a few of the Ewok names mixed up (Chief Chirpa, Teebo, and Logray).

I remember #BackInTheDay getting 'The Emperor' and 'Rancor Keeper' in mail away boxes after cutting and collecting the name pills from sooo many figures. It's no wonder that intact Vintage Kenner cardbacks (even sans figures) remain highly sought after ! lol ! :)

Awesome video! Do you happen to know which SW Kenner figures sold the most units during the first wave? I recently learned that in Japan, C-3PO, Darth Vader and the Stormtrooper were the best selling figures in the first wave licensed by Takara. I was wondering what the case was in the US. If you have any info, I'd love to know! Thanks!

This may have been mentioned here, but Lucas himself said in an interview that he originally had a battle with wookiees for ROTJ. He decided against it after showing Chewbacca as highly intelligent and mechanically inclined. This is a paraphrase of what he said.

Yes, Chewbacca showed that Wookiees were probably too technologically advanced to properly show the story point of the all-powerful Empire being taken down by the most primitive of weaponry. Plus, given a Wookiee's strength, they would've had no trouble tearing through all those Imperial troops... and the Rebels already having a Wookiee in their company would've given them a very obvious leg up in convincing the other Wookiees to join them in their fight.

Slave Leia and Grand Moff Tarkin please. We had to wait forever to get those.

I liked your video! And from your stories and insights I can see that you really grew up in that era and played with those toys...interestingly, depending on my location in Europe I have a slightly different perspective on certain things...I am pretty sure the power of the force line was in Europe called trilogo and I never received a coin with it...had plenty of yak faces though as they were on sale...other figures like blue snaggletooth were never sold at my place...and r2-d2 with light Sabre was for me as a kid not worth buying because you always see the stick or a hole in the dome...that’s why it is rare today;)

I remember my grandmother telling me how it was up to the buyers at the toy store chain she worked at if they were going to sell the figures. My cousins had the early bird special and of course the first four figures that came out. I soon abandoned my Superhero mego figures for Star Wars figures which was a shame really since i enjoy buying Mego retro figures now.

Not really. I was hard into the 3 3/4 inch line from the rebirth in '96 through the mid 2000's. I mean, I have hundreds and hundreds if not thousands of figures. They are currently not on display, but I am thinking about revisiting them in the future

Hoping we get a Star Wars Holiday Special Lumpy Black Series figure this year!
