For the GPUs that had web drivers, OpenCore Legacy Patcher recently imported the web drivers to work in Big Sur/Monterey and have acceleration. The only downfall is they are nonmetal accelerated cards so they have the same issues as with OpenCores other macs that use the nonmetal acceleration, but you can use them if you need to or must in a classic mac pro or other macs with upgradeable GPUs. Therefore your old GTX 980ti can be accelerated with the patches from OpenCore Legacy Patcher.

So amazing, I would do that to my 5,1 but it looks too complicated. Thanks for the great video.

Honestly you don’t need to do most of the stuff in the video it’s all extras. Just do bootrom update then install Monterey and open core. That’s the bare minimum and it’ll work great. I tried to make it as thorough as possible for people who wanted to do all the mods. Pixlas mod is only needed for higher end gpus too so a rx 580 should work fine without it

I'm still running Mojave 10.14.6 problem-free. I understand one of the biggest advantages of a later OS is security updates from Apple, but aside from that, what else are you appreciating about your new OS Monterey that Mojave lacks?

It’s seen as external when install macos but after installing opencore it should show as internal

Is the Martin Lo package required as of today with 12.6? Everything seems like it's working, what's it for?

It works with 12.6 if I remember correctly but even oclp can be used these days without martin lo package as they also updated theirs

You forgot to mentioned if we should leave the usb installer which already has the legacy patcher therefore has a boot loader or should we remove it after blessing/copying martin lo’s efi files? I actually tried both ways and the difference is that if i leave the usb/installer/oclp plugged in get the fancy color boot picker vs the regular OC way (old grayish icons in boot loader)

Once you bless it you can remove usb installer. At 32:00 the screen you see is from the internal drive using the martin lo’s package. Not sure about the grey icons you speak of. I don’t have grey icons for boot menu

This is a very good video a discover today. I performed the upgrade of my 2010 mac pro I had purchased brand new back then to Monterey latest version with no issue whatsoever quite a while ago and I am interested in installing a GC-Titan Ridge 2.0. What "tool" are you using to flash it and where can I buy it? It seems quite easy to do it on my own at home without having to hire a pro, which I did for my 8GB graphics card.

If you cannot get a boot screen you can try putting the old GPU back in until you can install the drivers

When booting without usb I get the well famous circle with a line through it: prohibitory symbol. Which from my understanding means an unsupported os. If I hold the option key (or alt) and select EFI boot manually it boots in Monterey, however. What is going on here..? I can't figure it out. Booting using startup manager every time is quite inconvenient.

Did you install opencore onto the drive? Means opencore didn’t successfully install

So I installed Monterey with the 5870 but when I put in the rx580 it only shows 18mb of ram and the top bar becomes white when clicking it and is laggy. Any help would be great.

If you are using front usb try back. If back usb try front. I forgot which one it was but there was an issue where either front or back dont work without rebooting

you Should have a bootscreen by just simply using martin lo's efi folder on a usb drive in the efi partition.. rx580's should show it ..im using a gigabyte rx570 and its a pc version but still displays the boot screen when using that efi folder..

hi bro I made the Thunderbolt settings and everything is fine, but when I connected the Apollo card, the computer stuck with a continuous restart, and if I disconnected the Thunderbolt cable, the computer works normally.. Is the problem with the Thunderbolt card or do I need a power cable? Note that I am using Universal Apollo Audio Interfaces quad core Thunderbolt 3

Did you get the same TB card that I did? There’s two different kinds. I would try another tb device and see if that works first

I'm having issues installing any apps. I've tried to download Firefox, chrome, they all come in a .dmg file, they open the installer but that's as far as it gets. Any ideas? I got the OS all installed, works fine, all basic Mac apps work as they should, but I can't install more than what was pre-installed.

For something like chrome, the dmg contains the app. You drag it to applications folder and then launch it. Is there any error you are receiving

@@cs.studios I can open the dmg to mount it, and that's as far as I get. With every app possible. Dragging to applications doesn't work, I've tried everything from official to 3rd party apps. I'm almost at the point of just installing windows.

It might be the device Id is not supported and might require vBIOS flash or some edit in the config

You will want something like a 7750 at least to run Monterey

The gpu driver isn’t enabled. Maybe yours has a weird pcie hardware id

I bought a MacPro 5.1 2012 2x2.4 Ghz, 24 Gb ram, 240 Gb SSD(, 500 HDD, 640 Gb HDD for 2000 DDK(about $183 ). I have bought and installed Sapphire RX 590 8Gb, and creative a Mojave USB install with OpenCore, but I have tried several times to flash my boot rom without success. :(

Thanks for the video! Have a PowerMac quad core and another Intel with 8 core. Want to run Logic Pro X on the 8 and VST’s on the PowerMac midi synced. Do you think I could get it installed on the G5 PowerMac as well?

Only the Mac Pro 4,1/5,1 can run Monterey not the power mac g5. I have logic pro x and final cut pro x on the mac pro and they run well

I know it works with big sur. I think for monterey youll need the opencore legacy patcher method. You can check macrumors forum to be safe

after installation of open core monteray on mac pro 5,1 and after restart it does not boot up, i cannot hear chime sound and i only got black screen. i cannot do anything. before this installation i had high sierra os and it worked well. Can someone help please?

It sounds like hardware acceleration isn’t working properly. I would look at using other inputs and see if they work correctly

There was a mod to make the old cards work. I don’t remember if they work in big sur only or also monterey. I recommend posting on the macrumors forum

Hi Sir, , I have a mac pro early 2009 and 2-cpu 2.66 ghz and 16 gb RAM 1066 mgh, Is already runing macOS Big Sur two weeks ago their is a message update available, I did update this mac pro , after that there is nothing so i try to install a big sur again from opencore legacy patcher, is installing to 29 minutes remaining windows and after that an other boot after that on moment. Can’t you just use oclp normally? Without this special package thing but instead trou post install patches from oclp

Yes you can. Not sure if OCLP has TB3 support yet but when I was doing this in April Martin Lo package seemed best for my use case.

Which OS do you have now? You need to install opencore if you want to update but I highly recommend clean install

If you get a 2x 6-core (12-core) 5,1 with lots of ram and lots of storage , it should be much faster than your 2017 macbook pro. But it has to be cheap because these days theres m1 mac mini, Mac Studio etc.

@@cs.studios so im having a different issue catalina installed fine with the patcher but then i went to run the post install patches cause the wifi wasnt working, but the patches had an error message come up then my mac restarted and its been going through that apfs code screen then into the apple load screen but it just hangs at 100% Would you have any idea what i can do ive been trying to boot back into my usb that has the patcher to try and wipe the drive and reinstall but at this point nothing is working to get into recovery mode or boot menu

Hi, you are showing pretty exact how to get things done but you don't say why you do sometimes ...e.g. when you install the wires for - as you say shortly - the pixel mod (if I have heard that correct)...you do it but you do not show where the installed wires are going to ...maybe to the G.C. Titan card?? Who can tell.....

19:58 explains which wires are which 22:16 shows where I route the wire 24:16 you can see how all the wires connect 25:05 explain I did pixlas mod after I installed my 5700 xt so you don’t see the wires there. Pixlas mod as I explained is for gpu. If you have a high power gpu you need pixlas mod. Therefore the wire goes to the GPU not titan ridge card. Hope that helps

If you do pixlas mod for higher power gpus then yes. Pixlas mod is needed for gpus that draw over 225w power. If the gpu only has two 6-pin connectors then you can use the ones from the board and skip pixlas mod

macOS 12.4 consistently installs fine on 2009 and 2010 mac pros using OCLP 0.4.7. I'll be very interested to see how you get on with a fresh install of 12.5

I used to use flux in windows 7/8 but with 10 I don’t bother anymore. Flux allows you to customize the exact times, colors etc.

You do realize that those clips will cut into the wire for you no need to use the knife

Yes but they’re cheap and wire is decent gauge so I use the knife to ensure they will get proper contact

Please, do not use clover configurator to edit opencore conflig.plist or those sketchy opencore configurator use Propertree or xcode. clover configurator and opencore configurator are famous for corrupting config plist and Its recommended to be avoided by opencore developers.

man, your video is so much confusing... why the hell, you do recommend OCLP for installing and martin's package for running 12.x? why not just install martins pack and do a usual upgrade from 10.13.6? you have 96gb already installed, then you explain and show how to upgrade the ram...did you take the modules out and put them back?? thats a hell of a concept dude...😅 but just let me see until the end...

At the time martin lo package was best for after install compared to oclp. Oclp is easier to use for installer because you have to edit the file so that firmware installer doesn’t show up. Clean install is better and it’s best to always keep original drive with original install in case of any issues such as future updates causing issues. I had lost some scenes so had to re-record
