The Commons descends into chaos as MPs ready themselves for election
“Parliament feels like it’s the last day of term. Everyone is waiting for the election. There is no sense of this is business as usual anymore.”
The House of Commons descends into chaos with MPs thumping pews as they ready themselves for an election, says The Story podcast host Manveen Rana and Times Columnist Matthew Parris.

"I suppose you don't have to have hair to be in politics." Is that really the first thing to be said about a potential 1st Minister of Scotland? The utterly childish and typically disrespectful quality of political commentary towards Scotland so common within the London bubble. Feels like you are on the last day of term too. In primary school.

@@calumroney7352 there is no edinburgh bubble, all the media is controlled from london.
It’s pathetic the way mps act in the chamber.. The speaker in the debate for vaccine damage threatened to end that debate due to the “noise from public gallery” When the public was cheering and applauding to showed they agreed. But mps are aloud to carry on the way they do.. one rule for me another for the once again

In Barbados, MPs are incredibly respectful and quiet when not speaking, even when asking pointed questions about the Prime Minister's wife having received gifts from Red China, really showing up Westminster at least in terms of courtesy.
No table manners
So, knowing part of the interview says this is normal why did you use the headline....The Commons descends into chaos !

No thanks, they’ve done enough damage to the country already with Brexit.
I think what the country would like to know is what the demob happy Times Radio studio was eating. And with such enthusiasm that our host ate effusively with his mouth open!
Misleading title. I thought the GE had been announced.

Clickbait for what the country's waiting for.
I wouldn't bring Speaker Thomas up TBH unless we want to discuss his 'proclivities'.
Whilst I have always had time for Matthew, he usually speaks common sense. I think he needs the help of an economist to explain what the abolition of NI would mean to taxation, it would be significantly more than 2p. Also had Matthew actually listened, the Starmer strategic trap, was to get Sunak, not to discount the Frost proposals to raise the retirement age to 75, to pay for it having confirmed the maintenance of the triple lock. Whilst it’s unlikely to happen politically it’s a strategic gift for the opposition, has the adverts and media are showing. Sunak and his advisors are definitely now in Lincoln territory “You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time”. According to YouGov today “The some of the people all the time” is now down to 18% close to Reform and the mathematical error.
10:40 honesty and directness from a politician confuses people, because they've never seen it before
Starmer was asking the question of how it will be paid for. If it's to be paid for by higher taxes that's not a better look for Sunak.
Did Manveen bring cake? Now I want cake.
The speaker is like a washerwoman always screaming but never does anything!
lol! Matt shovelling cakes into his face 😊😊😊😊
Abolish National Insurance? That means OAPs, who don't pay National Insurance will have to pay more Income Tax along with everyone else. Parrish seems to not understand the consequences for OAPs. OAPs make up the majority of core Tory voters meaning their are consequences for the Tories. As for Frost's proposal to raise the Pension Age to 75! Why Sunak just did not deny it is beyond me. Maybe Sunak has just given up?

I love the lack of effort put into editing these videos, it means we're blessed with pastry cam during the audio clips - also I disagree with 8:50, the battles are not all won w.r.t gay marriage! Just look at the erasure of abortion rights in the US, complacency will be the death of freedom.

Scotland has PR for local and holyrood elections, so why doesn't the SNP split itself up, with all wings (if you can have more than two "wings") standing, splitting their vote, but all getting their due number of MSPs or councillors? Otherwise, what is the point?
@clarecrawford9677

Local and Holyrood elections have different forms of PR so your solution wouldn’t work. The point of the SNP is to split after independence, not before.

@@clarecrawford9677exactly ! Well explained. The D’Hondt voting system and STV are completely different. These were of course imposed on Scotland by Labour in Westminster. The SNP would indeed break up following independence. Tories, Labour and Libdems would not be allowed to exist, as they are registered in London, England.
