Yeah I think this slam she was trying to work out all the advice her new coach was telling her. By the time the Olympics rolled around one month later, she had mastered the new strategy, mindset, tactics and some minor technical changes. She also had more self belief having won a major after a dry spell.

I really like this video. This slam was very important in her career it kick started her 3rd and final peak of her career. Most people wrote her off, and she proved them wrong once again. I don't think any of the all time greats battled with health issues like Serena. She underwent a knee Surgery in 2003 at the tender age of 21 when she was the dominant player in the world. She never regained her 2003 speed, and the knee bothered her through out her career especially in the mid 2000s and 2014-2016. She suffered a pulmonary embolism in 2010, which almost killed her and ended her second peak. It compromised her lung capacity. She also dealt with family tragedy in the 2000s and had to deal with unnecessary scrutiny and tough rivals, but she persevered. By the time She had a painful child birth at 36, her body had had enough hence the decline. Looking at how hard modern day tennis is on the body of female players, I doubt any woman will even win 15 slams again. What a career she had.

That match as well as the one against Azarenka in the semi final are underrated classics. Her level was incredibly high that's why she won in straight sets. Her shot making and serves were superb as well as her movement

I don't get why this is considered such a big win for her, all she did was come back after losing her first ever grand slam first round then come back from the edge of defeat two rounds in a row, I mean it can't be that hard to serve to stay in a match 4 times, and then she went on a tear and beat 3 top 4 players in a row.....oh wait yeah that is insane

  • @stefan33uk

Serena had three periods when she looked like she was going to keep winning and winning and then something stalled her progress. The 2003 knee injury and her sister’s murder when she had won 5 of the last 6 majors. The stepping on cut glass incident before the 2010 US Open, when she had won five majors in the last two and a bit years. And having a baby in 2017 after winning the Aus Open when she was looking in formidable form. Incidentally, I feel her other most important comeback match was the 2008 US Open QF against Venus. If she did not win that I don’t think she would have won those five majors in her second slam dominant era. It’s also easy to say she would have won more earlier on in her career if she met Patrick Mouratoglou earlier, but I do think he would have got her playing full schedules and she would have burnt out or got insurmountable injuries that would have affected her career longevity.

I believe you should consider taking a career in comedy, because if you really watched the match you will realize it was Serena who choked in the second set. She should have won in straight set. I believe you just want to create humor.
