Michigan sat behind Ohio State and Georgia in the rankings because the meat of their schedule was at the end and they didn’t play anyone to that point… Florida State was still up there. Ahead of even Washington much of the time. All until their QB got hurt.

I’m not a Florida State fan but an undefeated team that’s in the acc not making the playoffs is unbelievable.

Results on the field do matter which is why Texas got in over FSU also. FSU struggled to beat Louisville. They put up 3 points in an entire half and didn't score their first touchdown until almost midway thru the 3rd. FSU had a 55th SOS, worst of the entire top 8. Louisville got upset by Kentucky, who didnt struggle offensively, who also got absolutely dog walked by Bama. If FSU would've beat Louisville 42-10 or something like Texas did to OKST, the committee would've probably put them in and said well the QB isn't an issue the offense still works. But they didn't.

@@tycalvert6011, yes. Alabama _barely_ beat three unranked teams by 3 points, and those teams were Texas A&M, Arkansas, and Auburn, a game that took a miracle to happen, no less. And they only beat unranked South Florida 17-3. So their supporters shouldn't talk about FSU "barely" doing _anything._

I live in Washington and thrilled the huskies are playing in the Semifinals, HOWEVER they should playing FSU. A team that did everything asked of it should not be excluded solely on the basis of losing their quarterback. There's dozens of other players & coaches that worked their butts off and should be rewarded. FSU has a GREAT defense and defenses win championships... except Florida State. They were robbed of their opportunity.

My question to each of you is if you were the head coach of either FSU or Georgia, would you risk an injury to your star athletes playing next year by having them participate in the consolation game? Already earned the $6 million for the conference so I would give the second and third stringers some experience and also offer some "boosters," who contributed at least $1 million, a chance to suit up and kick a field goal. All about the money anyway! 😊

I won't speak for UGA, but if I'm FSU I think they have two options. 1. IF they get buy in from their players that they want to make a statement and have no opt outs then I think they should play and do everything they can to make the committee look foolish 2. If some of their star players want to opt out and prep for the bowl than I would show up to South Beach, give the seniors a vacation. Have a mini-camp for the underclassmen, and refuse to take the field in protest.

Another factor is Florida State held the number 4 position in the rankings for sometime . Also you can't judge quarterback play today when the game is a month away and given time to improve . What happens if one of the teams loses a quarterback to injury at practice . Do you remove them and place the next team in as a alternate . My thought is they could not leave a sec team out of the playoffs . To much revenue lost . This was a business decision

There is NO way that 13-0 FSU should not be in the CFP. It's even more impressive that they were able to finish the season undefeated after losing their starting QB - that shows just how good they are as an overall football team. Judging them by whether or not they have their starting QB healthy is irrelevant - football is a TEAM sport! FSU has players on both sides of the ball that have a legitimate shot at playing on Sundays. This system needs to be expanded to at least an 8 team playoff, so this type of situation never happens again...

100% one of the biggest robberies in the history of the sport. FSU deserved a chance to play for a national title, and it was taken from them. This will never be forgotten.

It needed to be 8 teams from the very beginning. 4 is a very small sample size when a potential champion could be lurking at 5 or 6. Good thing they're going to 12 teams next year.

I never thought I'd see 3 power five conference teams go undefeated along with 4 more having just one loss during the regular season, considering there was no one dominant team in the SEC, Big 10, Big 12 and Pac-12. Relatively speaking, Michigan can be considered dominant in the B1G, but so can Ohio State. Washington dominated teams in the Pac-12--yet Oregon dominated everyone else. I predicted Texas would do a cakewalk over all of their Big 12 opponents until Oklahoma nearly spoiled their CFP chances. I previously thought Georgia was the dominant team not just in the SEC but in all of college football until they got upset by Alabama in the SEC Championship Game. However, the ACC did have one dominant team and that was undefeated Florida State. From that perspective, this was the biggest CFP snub of 2023. That being said, if Florida State beats Georgia in the Orange Bowl, that would make the CFP committee look like idiots for not including FSU in the CFP.

Let's say your favorite NFL team is in a playoff game, and the starting quarterback goes down. The third stringer comes in, and you have a great defense, plus an excellent coach. The committee’s rules have always stated that injuries that might affect playoff performance will be taken into account when making the final rankings. Whether you agree with it or not, this isn’t some new rule that the committee just made up last night.

So the message that every team should take away is that if you loose a starting quarterback late in the season you should hang up your championship hopes. The rest of your season does not matter, what you as a team achieved does not matter. This current iteration of the committee should see itself out as they have shown they are on par the BCS system.

It's Alabama favoritism. It's about what's right. FSU was undefeated, and won the conference championship. I don’t care what anyone says, the committee said it’s not about the most deserving it’s about the four best teams. If you can’t look at the playoffs and realized Alabama is not one of the four best teams (who just beat the number one team) you are blind. Alabama would kill fsu. So why put fsu in over bama? You want the 4 best teams? Alabama is better than fsu. Period.

I think teams with 10+ wins should get a crack in the playoffs, like next year if they expand it, or maybe put all ranked teams in the Playoffs and find away to even it out? So many ways to make the playoffs better! GO BLUE!

I think Florida State got left out because of the injury and then started a true freshman with 4 plays under his belt. That to me was the straw that broke the camel's back. I know you can't please everyone but 13 wins and no losses speaks for itself! I'm heartbroken for Florida State. But, then again, Alabama beat the returning two time champions! I would not like to be on the selection committee! What a tough decision! The only way this decision, to me, will be justified is for Alabama to win it all. I just feel bad for all those players for Florida State! I think the Georgia Bulldogs got ripped off as well! They don't even get the opportunity to defend their two time , back to back championships! Just my thoughts.

I just don't understand how an undefeated team ranked 4th, wins its conference championship game against a team ranked 14th, and gets passed in the final rankings by not one but two teams that were ranked 7th and 8th.

I can't believe that Alabama got in instead of Florida state, if I was a Florida state fan I would be pissed. If you are too concerned about the injuries now then why weren't you 3, 2 ,or 1 week ago. Get this - TCU lost their conference championship last year to 2-loss Kansas State. The dropped from 2 to 3, played Michigan in the semifinals and got blown out in the championship. Because Alabama and Georgia are in different divisions in the SEC. Georgia is on Alabama's schedule for the next to years (home and home) and then another SEC East team will rotate on their schedule. Alabama and Georgia can't play each other every year due to being in different divisions.

@@trevthegamedev While they did barely beat Auburn, that was a) A rivalry game which always tend to be unpredictable. b) The game before they beat Georgia (The #1 team in the country and winners of 29 straight). If FSU beat them convincingly maybe they could’ve stomached the possibility of having the ‘Noles at 4. However, when you combine the fact that FSU won ugly with Alabama having only 1-loss as SEC Champ AND not wanting a repeat of TCU vs Georgia…..it makes sense, it’s not fair but it makes sense.

As an LSU fan, FSU deserved to be in the playoffs more than Bama. I’m an SEC guy through and through, but the minute you start prioritizing entertainment and who will be playing over what the teams actually did to earn a spot, that isn’t a legitimate pick.

@@MountainMan. there should be, do you know who many meaningless bowl games there are? 43, thats 86 teams. 32 would be about right, what that does, it adds more money for these univerities, which are businesses. But the main thing is it takes away control for the richer univerities and the crooked commettee establishment they set up. Thats why they have fought not having more teams for over all those decades, for a monopoly and money.

Even if you get a 6 or eight team playoff, you still are going to get one of these predicaments. What if you do if there is a six team playoff and one powerhouse is at number 1 loses early but comes back to one in week 3 because number 2 and 3 and 4 loses in consecutive games in and on their way down number 1 plays them: 2 and 3 and 4 and they fall to 9 10 and 13 and 2 and 3 just keeps on faltering meanwhile teams from the bottom ranks stay undefeated and make it to the 5 playoff spots behind 1 that lost early but made it back to one in week 3 so you have after 12 weeks you have a (1)11-1 2)12-0 3)12-0 4)13-0 5)12-0 6)11-0. It can happen. I seen it happen.

I expected that. Being that next ear we are going to 12 team playoffs, this was the last year the committee could control NCAA football. Their last flex before somewhat normalcy.

The 12 team playoff was supposed to start this year but the commissioners of the ACC, Big10 and Pac12 put up roadblocks and it got delayed a year. Also, there will be still be a committee next year and the will select the 6 non conference champion teams.

The committee quickly forgot about Alabama's previous game against Auburn ( a game they should have lost) among other weak performances Alabama had this season.

Even though my team got in; I wish they'd expand the playoffs to more if a sweet 16 step instead of a final 4. Give teams that are super good with 1 or 2 losses have a fair shot...

My hold-up is if they expand the playoff what sort of impact is that going to have on the players? Are they gonna get paid for the extra games? That's my main concern

These rankings are jacked up. Going out with a bang i guess.

Imagine the Chiefs heading into the last game of the year loses Maholmes for the year to win the AFC West. And still wins the last game to win the AFC West. But because they lost him for the year and aren't the same team as they were for 95% of the year that the commissioner decides that they won't go to the playoffs and the Bills get there spot.

I feel sorry for Florida State they went undefeated 13-0 won the ACC conference championship and were left out of the College Football Playoff the committee is very unpredictable so I’m not surprised that they did what they did but I still feel very sorry for Florida State this is why the College Football Playoff should be expanded to 16 teams.

Eventually they'll just adopt the basketball approach and do a sweet 16 final teams. 16>8>4>2>1. More games, more chance to sell ads and water the sport down further.

If winning doesn't matter then get rid of the regular season & just pick the teams the committee wants then have a season long tournament. I'm not remotely an FSU fan but they got hosed, "style points" shouldn't matter

FSU was robbed. They lost their Heisman candidate of a QB, started their 3rd string QB in the conference championship game, and still were undefeated. They should have taken the 4 spot

Robbed of what? The committee actually did FSU a favor. You think that Rodemaker would have done anything against Michigan's defense? A semifinal game against any of the other three playoff teams would have made Florida State look really bad and led to decommitments.

Why Booger focused only on Bama? Texas has a loss with a weaker schedule than Bama. I hate that FL St lost out, but why Texas in there?

FSU not being in was because of injured QB and because they can’t stand the thought of an SEC team missing out. Also who cares if FSUs QB is injured, they beat Florida and Louisville with it, it’s not like they can’t be competitive.
