    There's actually a documentary on McNamara's interview talking about his time as Secretary of Defense during the Cold War. And it's actually mind boggling how close we were to WW3 every time some new event happen, not asking for you to react(be cool if you did) but if you want more in depth understandings about the Cold War, it's the only documentary I recommend.

    Where I am practically no one is a space nerd except for me, but most people know that it was indeed the Russians who got to space first maybe not because we won because of the moon, but definitely to space. In movies, history books, and in school it’s emphasized.

  • @LiterallyMe05

    @LiterallyMe05

    America did win, because in a race it doesnt matter who was first for the longest but rather, who reaches the finish line first. Now in Space there really isn't a finish line, but the moon landings are the largest achievement by humanity in Space. If some other nation manages to top that, they would become the winner, but as of now, America is in the lead.

  • @sovietbob8153

    @sovietbob8153

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@LiterallyMe05 Practically speaking, there was no benefit for the moon landings other than propaganda, because that was the main point of the race. On the grand scheme of things, humanity as a whole won the space race and have benefited from it. By the time Sergei Korolev died(he dreamt for the Soviets to land on the moon). JFK even had a speech expecting the very first man on the moon would have been a Soviet, but that clearly was not the case as their chief director for their Space program as he(Sergei Korolev) died 3 years prior to the moon landing which dealt a heavy blow on the Soviet effort in the race, once replaced by Vasily Mishin and Valentin Glushko, their objective changed to putting a man on the moon to exploring other planets and refining their rocket technology instead. There were fatalities during training, test flight, and space flights on both sides. If you are well informed about the Space race, the United States had more fatalities than what the Soviets had experienced during the entire race. So anyone arguing that the Soviets didn't care for their subjects would be immediately refuted. Nevertheless- how one would perceive which country won the space race is relative. In terms of who pioneered and achieved the firsts during the race, the USSR beats the USA no doubt. When it came to putting the very first person into a celestial body and who won the Cold war, it's definitely the United States. If we go beyond the Cold war, NASA still uses Russian Soyuz rockets to launch their astronauts in space, however that might change later in the future. • @thiagosestini29
    @thiagosestini292 жыл бұрын

    About those lost warheads, this was because in order to implement the deterrence plan they had to keep nuclear bombers in the air 24/7. They couldn't reach all the necessary high value targets without bombers and they had to assume a soviet first strike could target the airfields. At some points this was intensified because the Soviets were believed to have better ICBMs / SLMBs or because the US believed war was imminent. This pushed operational procedures to the limit (eg. operation chrome dome had recurring 24-hour flights) and caused quite a few mishaps.

    16:45 the Russians were good at doing things in space first, but it tended to be the bare minimum. For example, they sent the first satellite up, but all it did was beep, while the first US satellite had all sorts of scientific instruments on it. The planned Soviet moon lander had only room for one guy, no room to sit down, involved a space walk to actually get to, was unpressurized, and was only stocked with enough provisions to stay on the lunar surface for several hours. The US lander by comparison was pressurized, had an airlock, could comfortably house two people, and could stay on the lunar surface for days at a time, later ones even had a rover

    British intelligence services were key partners with American intelligence services during the Cold War. The James Bond books and movies were pop culture representations of that. If you haven't seen "The Courier" starring Benedict Cumberbatch, I recommend seeing it. It's the story about a Soviet officer, Oleg Penkovsky, and his contact with MI-6 and the CIA. Intelligence from Penkovsky allowed for a peaceful resolution to the Cuban Missile Crisis. My father served in the US Air Force from 1955-1975. He was in communications with Strategic Air Command. He remembers US military defense condition (DEFCON) escalating to Level 2 for SAC, just short of war. This is the highest level reached since the advent of the Cold War. Even after 9/11, we never went higher than DEFCON 3.

    I actually listened to an audiobook pretty recently about the start of the Cold War. The British actually needed to pull out of Greece because they couldn’t afford to be there, and there was pressure for the US to be involved both there and in Turkey. When Truman made his case to Congress that funds were required for this, he essentially created the Truman doctrine. And unlike the funny version presented here, it basically stated that the US was open to friendly relations with communist states if those countries decided their system of their own free will. If they were being controlled by an armed minority or outside influence, then it would threaten the investment in freedom that the allies had made during World War II. Thus, Greece became the first conflict of the Cold War.

We need to lern about the history of every country so the past doesn’t repeat. In Germany we lern all of our history, so it doesn’t repeat. History needs to be kept alive so it’s not forgotten. It’s a shame history gets avoided and ignored because the ppl are ashamed of there History, Germany doesn’t, we have plates with the names of victims so the past is never forgotten and we will make sure it never repeats.

    I think you should react to an interview by yuri bezmenov in 1983. He is a former KGB agent that talked about how the Soviet Union was subverting the USA because the KGB saw the soviets were in decline. It's super interesting and clips of it was even in the COD cold war trailer

    The Korean War is often called The Forgotten War. Millions of people died in this conflict and it's basically never taught in school, even in the United States.

    I know you wanna play some tactical shooters. A fantastic hyper realistic civil war game is War of Rights. You actually use tactics to win the battles. It's a ton of fun

    I've commented this on your previous Oversimplified video. Try checking out "The Great War", "World War Two", and "Glory and Defeat".
