So I just noticed that Hbox's head to head record has him 1-6 vs himself thats obviously ment to be Ibdw but just thought I would pin this to clear that up. Update: Its been updated that redemption rumble wont be included in the rankings this year the evening after this video was posted however this video still documents the insane year we have had and just how close the competition has been this year the only part now slightly outdated is the end as ibdw is definatly out if mango wins scuffed then there is a chance he is number one though.

No one has had a 100% consistent year. However a lot of people's wins are centered around a certain part of the year Ibdw- middle Manho- latter half Amsa- end Hbox- sprinkled through middle Zain was the only one to have wins at the beginning, middle, and towards the end. Consistency like this should have some sort of weight.

Only getting into competitive melee a couple years ago, its really interesting seeing this many top players at once. Next year is going to be really hype tho with how close this year was. Hopefully Nintendo stays out of it.

If you’re taking tournament wins and H2Hs into account, it’s not really a question of who will get #1 and more of a question of who will get #2. Even if mango wins Lud’s, his H2H record isn’t good enough to justify having him over Zain

Mango has more positive H2Hs than zain and zain has higher value tournament wins overall at the moment. I think it’s still pretty contentious.

Next minute, mang0 gets ranked 3rd and stops caring halfway thru genesis because panelists were biased. Tournament win count should mean way more than consistancy imo. 4 tournament wins compared to 3 with summit 14 being literally the only tournament of the whole year to feature the top 8. Mang0 got snubbed hard on the 2022 ranking.

The fact that some people still think that anyone else than Zain will be #1 is either severe recency bias or complete disregard for the full year’s stats. Luds last minute 16 players invitational is not a major and definitely shouldn’t be a "winners takes all" event…Unless you’re a Mang0 fan. Even Mang0 said on stream that they shouldn’t count

Usually the definition of a major is most of the top players attending.. And let's say with how the events unfolded at the end of this year.. it would be a crime to the melee community to not count it. Respectfully - Another blue kirby main.

But these are last minute charity invitationals, not open tournaments. Also none of them will have more than 3 out of the top 5. They will/should count to some extent sure, but the idea that these are major events where the best player of the year will be decided is a big stretch IMO. (Love for the Blue Kirby!)

Amsa wins are more impressive than Mangos wins and he has a better H2H spread and was more consistent throughout the whole year. If he gets top 3 at the remaining events he's #2 of the year to me.

Not really zain has been 1# throughout the entire year. Kind of close not really, zain is too good

This is a great video and no offense but please don't do as many zoom in shots into your face its a little disturbing lol.

Leffen and Plup are both only outside top 6 because of attendance problems/rust after attendance problems. Year rankings could see Leffen and Plup as 8 and 7 respectively, but I think an actual skill based player ranking rather than a results based ranking, Plup and Leffen are both top six, ahead of Jmook or Hbox. Edit: I also noticed that you left out LACS 4. This was one of the biggest tournaments of the year, and one that showed Plup's strength as a player. It is an online event, but I still think it should matter for year long rankings

This is false. There's not really a fight anymore. Mango has caught up and surpassed. It's basically mango vs. zain, but not really, mango has had zains number for a sec now.
