It's interesting, after the first 3 Doctor Who specials with David Tennant, my boyfriend started showing me Doctor Who from the beginning (at least 2005 onward, up to season 4 so far). Seen a handful of old Who to get some perspective on different actors and how they portray the Doctor, and I think Gatwa is really fun in this episode. The writing was just okay for Church on Ruby Road, but I'm looking forward to the coming stories we'll see him in (especially the Beatles episode I know is coming)

Yes, definitely looking forward to seeing more of him!

Doctor Who christmas specials have a history of being hit or miss, so I didn't go in expecting much. Saying that, I enjoyed it. The only thing I didn't like, daft as it may sound, was his mustache. I love the twinkle in his eye he has and am very hopeful for the future with him.

I loved it. Is a shame Ruby didn't make much of an impression for you - in our family she was a 100% hit. Yeah, there's loads of character work still to come to flesh her out further, but as a first impression we all seemed really happy with her, both in terms of writing and performance.

Glad you enjoyed the episode, yeah it may be the case that Ruby really shines once the series gets underway and the character is developed more
