►►► GAME DETAILS ◄◄◄
The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay is a first-person action and stealth video game developed by Starbreeze Studios and published by Vivendi Universal Games. Released for the Xbox and Windows in 2004, the game is a tie-in prequel to the futuristic science fiction film The Chronicles of Riddick. Actor Vin Diesel-who was involved in the game's development-reprises his role as that film's protagonist, Richard B. Riddick.
The game follows Riddick, the anti-hero of the two films Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick, as he attempts to escape from a maximum-security prison called Butcher Bay. Escape from Butcher Bay's designers focused on exploring Riddick's character in a prison break setting to differentiate the game from the film. The game's influences include the film Escape from Alcatraz, and video games such as Half-Life and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell.
In Escape from Butcher Bay, the player takes the role of Richard B. Riddick and attempts to break out of Butcher Bay prison. The game incorporates elements from video game genres such as first-person shooter, adventure and stealth, and is played primarily from a first-person perspective, though the camera switches to a third-person perspective during certain scenes. Unlike many first-person shooters, the game contains no head-up display; on-screen cues are limited to flashes when a new weapon is selected, and small, white boxes that display the player character's health when damage is taken. Health can be replenished in designated areas throughout the game. By finding cigarette packs hidden in levels, the player can unlock concept art and video files.
The player may interact with and receive quests from the prison's residents, and earns information, tools and other rewards by completing quests. Violent conflict often occurs between the player, inmates and prison guards. The player attacks with Riddick's bare hands, or with improvised weapons such as shivs and clubs. Combos are created by stringing together punches. A DNA-scanning security system initially prevents Riddick from using firearms, but a limited arsenal later becomes available.

Whether remastered or not. These are the perks with graphics you get in games with close quarters. Metro is another example of a game that aged extremely well. And it's cause the competition usually had to render whole worlds. I'm not downplaying them. It just happens that sometimes the story itself in its setting benefits the game developers to go ahead of their time in what they can do
This game aged so well!!! My stepfather bought this game as a way of making peace with me. I miss him dearly. Thank you for this opportunity and this upload. 💔He passed away December 21st 2007. 💔
"So, whaddaya say? How about some smokes?" "Gimme the smokes!"
This is the BEST walkthrough for Riddick on the web , great job sir
I think this game is as close to perfection as it gets. Graphics, atmosphere, story, pace, voice acting, gameplay. It's an amazing achievement.
Along with the general quality of gameplay; your camera work is just fantastic! Panning and movement is so smooth. The way you focus on details like the wall directions (51:05) to keep the viewer aware of the current objective is just genius. Honestly such great work dude!!
Perfect. Game is stunning. Did justice to character.
25:35 Playing Starfield reminded me of this interaction. This is how every NPC, Receptionist, store clerk and their grandma greets you in Starfield.
I can't believe this game is 19 years old and the graphics hold up with games that came out over a decade later.
What a game. They just don’t make them like this anymore.

The new games are trash. That's why I'm always playing old games. People think it's weird. But the new shit just doesn't interest me at all. Games like timeshift, condemned criminal origins, and chronicles of Riddick just hit different and I bet they're more games like that, that I have not discovered yet.
Very well played. The whole thing is like a Riddick movie, seamless transitions and considerate pacing. I'd love to see you play Assault on dark Athena. I've tried to watch others play it but they tend to back peddle or get lost all the time and it breaks the immersion.

I would love to see a Riddick movie almost entirely focused on him in a max security prison and escaping from it. I mean, he was in a prison and escaped from it in Chronicles, but I think a movie similar to the Butcher Bay game storyline would be epic
This game was/is a masterpiece, just like Chronicles of Riddick. Watching the game here now is almost like watching a movie.
Props to the developers (Starbreeze and Tigon Studios), for making this game.
For the longest time, I really thought Riddick got surgery on his eyes even after I played this game back in the day. I thought Pope Joe did the surgery but nope. It was in him all along. Funny how I misremembered it the same way Riddick did

Probably should have said this back when I commented two years ago, but the way you played this and Dark Athena is almost like it's Riddick himself.

I played Dark Athena a decade ago and loved it. The Riddick franchise is fascinating.
This brings back so many memories from all those years ago. I remember being absolutely amazed by this game when I first played it, the graphics and the game mechanics were top notch for it's time. I played both this and the Dark Athena but Escape from butcher bay is my favourite. It would be great if they can come up with a new Riddick game.

An underrated game at the time, but one that I have done several times. The sound environment and the gaphisms were (and still are) bluffing for a 2004 game.
This is one one the best games ever made i still hope for more riddick games with this quality.

Is one of my favorite games ever on the OG Xbox and the remastered version on 360. I have a real longing to play this game again but sadly I no longer have my original or 360 Xbox consoles and the game is not backwards compatible on next-gen consoles so all I can do is relive it vicariously through you. I just started your play through so I'm sure I'm in for good ol time thank you man.
